Five on Friday - Fall Favorites Edition

I’ve been busy this past week decorating our house for fall and getting it all cozy for the upcoming season.  I go all out each year for fall because it brings me so much joy, and it brings so much joy to the babies, too!  I hope they always remember that their Momma kept a cozy, happy home where they always felt safe and loved.  I have the fondest memories of my childhood home (where my parents still live), especially around the holidays, because my Momma always did the same for my two brothers and me.

Our home is almost fully decorated for this season, and I’ll be revealing a fall home tour in the upcoming weeks, but until then, here are a few of my favorite things to have around the house for fall…

O N E – Home Decor

I’ve never been a big Halloween decorator (witches, ghosts, monsters, etc.) but I do love me some fall décor!  I usually try to decorate with general fall-themed stuff that I can leave up through Thanksgiving – black and white buffalo plaid, burlap, galvanized metal, tiny orange pumpkins, and a smattering of colorful fall leaves.  Here are some of my favorite finds…

T W O – Books

I have always had a passion for books and there’s nothing better than a good book with a beautiful cover.  We have books in every room of our house, gracing tabletops and countertops, and adorning bedside tables and bookshelves.  I use them regularly as part of our home décor and in recent years I have started to collect seasonal books to put out as part of our seasonal décor.  Here are a few books that we already have or that I have my eye on for fall…

Purely Pumpkin – This book is filled to the brim with delicious seasonal recipes and I can’t wait to try some of them!

Platters and Boards – There is nothing better than a good cheeseboard.  I could eat one with a glass of wine every day and never get tired of it.  The book itself is GORGEOUS and it has all kinds of great ideas for spreads.  I can’t wait to pore over this book and find some new things to put on our boards!

Soup Nights – This is one of the books that I have my eye on.  I’m a HUGE soup lover, but unfortunately, the rest of my family is not.  I’d still love to check out this book and try some of the recipes, though.

Brew – I don’t drink coffee too much during the summer because I only like it hot… I don’t do iced coffee.  So I typically associate coffee with fall and winter and I think this book would look adorable in my kitchen as part of my cozy fall decor!  I’m totally just judging this one based on the cover.

The Year of Cozy – This book has been on my wish list for a long time.  I don’t know much about it, but I’d love to get my hands on it.  With a title like that it has to be good, right?

T H R E E – Scents

I know I’ve mentioned this before on the blog, but if I had to pick just one scent to live with for the rest of my life, it would be Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candles.  I have been burning those in our house every fall for at least ten years and nothing makes me happier than to light one of those babies and turn on our twinkle lights as we settle into our evening routine at home.

While I love the Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candles, I do not love the hand soap or the body lotion versions.  Instead, I always put out Bath & Body Works Black Cherry Merlot hand soaps in the fall.  It smells rich and amazing.

Finally, in addition to scents around the house, I also have a fall lotion and spray that I wear every year and that is Bath & Body Works Black Raspberry Vanilla.  I’ve been wearing it for probably close to ten years as well, and unfortunately, it was discontinued a few years ago.  Fortunately I had stocked up on it just before it was discontinued, but as of this year I’m running low, so I just bought some on eBay earlier this week to get me through a couple more years.  Gotta do what you gotta do!  Haha.

F O U R – Cozies

During the fall and winter months I stay cold all the time, so I keep lots of goodies on hand to keep me warm.  On any given day if you were to come visit me at my house you would find me in a cozy sweater or cardigan, leggings or plush PJ pants, fuzzy socks, and my trusty-rusty house slippers… and I might even be wrapped up like a mummy in a fuzzy throw, too, if it’s really cold.

One of my very favorite things that I received for Christmas last year was these house slippers.  They are SO WARM and so soft and so comfy and they are on my feet 99% of the time that I’m at home.

I have an embarrassingly large collection of fuzzy socks, but they, too, are on my feet 99% of the time that I’m at home.  I sometimes even wear those during the summer!  They come in so many fun colors and patterns!

I also wear a cozy fleece pullover/cardigan/sweater pretty much all of the time that I’m at home, so I keep those on hand as well.  Everyone I know has raved about this cardigan and I’ve been dying for one for years, but I just cannot bring myself to pay that much for a sweater, y’all.  I can’t.  But look how cozyyyy.  Target needs to create a knockoff STAT.  Until then I’ll just keep on wearing my Walmart cardigan.  Haha.

I also have several pairs of plush PJ pants that I wear around the house.  I don’t sleep in them because I don’t like to sleep in pants (I always wear shorts), but I wear them all evening until I get in the bed.

Another thing that I keep everywhere in our house is fuzzy blankets.  We have one on the couch, one by the chair in our master bedroom, and one in each of the kids’ rooms in case they want to snuggle up when they’re not in the bed.   I’m in the market for one to keep in my office as well and this one is on my wish list.  What’s better than a super-snuggly, cozy throw?  A super-snuggly, cozy throw with pom poms.  Y’all!  So cute!

F I V E – Graphic Tees

I am a major graphic tee-aholic and there are some fabulous ones out there for fall.  These are awesome.

Well, if you weren’t in the mood for fall before reading this post I would think that you’re in the mood now!  Me?  I’ve been in the mood since at least August 1.  And my friends, it’s finally here!

Happy Friday!
