The Best Guided Journals to Get Those Creative Juices Flowing

I have been a writer since I was old enough to pick up a pencil.  I started writing stories and poetry at a very young age, I have dabbled in writing song lyrics as an adult, and I also started journaling at the age of eight.  My journaling ended up carrying me all the way through young adulthood, and then I took a hiatus for a few years after I got married and had our babies because life just got too busy.  Shortly after Olivia was born, I realized just how much I missed it, so I started this blog, and I’ve been writing for the whole world to see ever since then.

While most of my blog posts are light and fluffy, I do throw the occasional serious post in here and there when the mood (or a current event) strikes.  It’s rare for writer’s block to hit me – I typically have so many ideas swirling around in my head that it’s hard to find enough time to squeeze them all in – but occasionally, I do find myself feeling uninspired.

When this happens, I absolutely love turning to some kind of guided journal to get my creative juices flowing.  I have a couple that I currently use and love, and I thought I’d share them with you today in case you’re experiencing writer’s block or if you’re just wanting to write but can’t figure out how or where exactly to start.

1,000 Things You Don’t Know About Me by Piccadilly

First up, is this 1,000 Things You Don’t Know About Me activity journal.  I have to admit, I wasn’t even seeking out a guided journal when I purchased this one… I was literally walking through Target one day, and the cover caught my eye because y’all know I am a sucker for rainbow colors.  Naturally, I had to pick it up to see what it was, and I couldn’t throw it in my shopping cart fast enough.  They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but in this instance, I did, and it worked out.  ;o)

This journal has 200 pages that each contain five questions for a total of 1,000 questions.  Each of the questions is thought-provoking, and it is a fantastic tool to use if you want to do a deep-dive of your own brain.  The pages aren’t lined, so you can write as large or small as you need to answer the questions completely, and the paper is sturdy and thick so ink doesn’t bleed through the pages.  A few examples of the prompts are as follows…

-       I have a love/hate relationship with…

-       I often express my love by…

-       The movie that most resembles my life is…

-       I believe in the power of…

-       My life was changed forever when…

-       My parents have never let me live down the time when…

-       My strongest one of the senses is…

-       I’m still secretly hoping…

-       The craziest party I have ever been to was…

-       I stayed up all night talking once when…

Since each page contains five prompts, you’re obviously not meant to write a ton about each, and that’s what makes this the perfect daily journal… because it doesn’t require a lot of your time.  You can answer one prompt quickly to get your creative juices flowing, or you can answer multiple if you want to spend more time in reflection.  I cannot rave about this one enough!  And it’s very affordable at just $8.49.

200 Lists About Me by Piccadilly

This journal is very similar to the previous one, but this one is meant to be answered in list form.  Y’all know I am a SUCKER for a list, so when I saw this one, I had to have it, too.  If you don’t have much time to write, then this one is probably even better than the other one, because you can just quickly list out your responses rather than taking the time to write something thoughtful in full sentences.  The lists range from serious to fun to silly and this book is just so much fun.  A few random examples of the list prompts are…

-       What I’ve learned about myself over the last few years

-       Best tasting foods I have ever eaten and who made them

-       Movies and books I would write a better ending for

-       Best love songs to make out to

-       TV shows I hope never end

-       Life problems I need to solve

-       Rules that were meant to be broken

-       My favorite smells

-       Random acts of kindess I should do to make the world a better place

-       Nicknames I have given other people

Aren’t these so fun?!  And there are 200 of them!  This book is 200 pages, so you have one page for each list, and the pages are lined, which I love, because every list looks better with lines.  ;o)  This book is also super affordable at just $8.99, and it’s a great way to record memories, to get to know yourself, and to get inspired.

In addition to these two journals that I have, Piccadilly has two others that are on my wish list, and they’re just as amazing as the first two.

3,000 Questions About Me by Piccadilly

This journal is 204 pages with 15 questions per page, so these questions are meant to be answered concisely.  That makes this one another great option for those who don’t have a lot of time on their hands.  A few examples of the questions are…

-       What’s your favorite sport?

-       What upcoming life event are you excited about?

-       What is one thing you’ll never do in public?

-       What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?

-       What or who brings your wild side to life?

-       What makes you feel like a kid again?

-       Are you psychic in any way?

-       What’s on your mind these days?

-       What is your preferred playing piece in Monopoly?

-       What is one thing people buy that you think is a total waste of money?

This book is also affordable at just $9.99 and it’s yet another way to get to know yourself when you don’t have a lot of time to sit down and write.

The Story of My Life by Piccadilly

This journal is yet another great option by Piccadilly, and once filled out, it presents itself as more of an autobiography or a memoir.  This would be a great book to fill out to save for your children and grandchildren to pass down a little piece of yourself throughout history.  And again, the prompts make it much easier than sitting down and writing a novel.  You can fill this one out at your own pace, and when you’re done, you have an excellent keepsake to pass down from generation to generation... in your own handwriting, too, which is cool!  Using a computer is much more convenient these days, but there’s just something about handwritten notes, letters, and papers that are so much more special.

This journal contains all sorts of random questions and activities.  Some are meant to be written in paragraph form, and some are meant to be written in list form, making the format a bit more unique than the formats of the other journals.

All of these journals are 6 x 8.5, so slightly smaller than a traditional notebook, but slightly larger than a novel, and I love that they’re all the same size so they look uniform on my shelf.  All you Type A/OCD people like me rejoice!  ;o)

In addition to these, Piccadilly also offers a Create + Destroy journal for all of you artsy types who love to draw and/or doodle.  And they also have a Lined Journal specifically for taking notes during church.  Each page has prompts for the day's sermon as well as a place to write down things for which you are grateful.  Their whole line is seriously fantastic!  (And this post is not sponsored… I just really love their products.)

Any of these journals would make fantastic gifts for pretty much anyone, and they’re all super affordable, yet thoughtful.

I’m planning to incorporate some of the prompts from these books into the blog soon.  I know most people aren’t doing the “old-school” OG blogging anymore, but I still love doing these kinds of personal posts for those of you who enjoy that, and as always, I love to have these posts stored for myself and our kiddos for the future.  What a blessing it will be for them to have all of this to look back on one day!

Happy Monday, y’all!
