Our Weekend - The One with All the Slowness

Can you tell I couldn’t think of anything for a post title?  Haha.  Well, truthfully we really didn’t do much this weekend and it was perfect just the way it was.  I used to hate January with a passion.  It was always my least favorite month of the year because everything is so bleak and boring after the festive month of December, but the older I get, the more I appreciate it.  Dare I say that I may even actually LOVE it a little now?  Who even am I?!

I think the older I get, the more I look forward to the fresh start that the new year brings.  The clean slate.  The 365 new days that stretch in front of you… knowing that you can spend them any way you choose.  Well, not any way you choose, but you get the point.  But for some reason I have started feeling quite refreshed in January and I always feel super, super ready to tackle new goals.  Not to mention I love that slowness that comes with it after such a (wonderfully) exhausting and busy December.

Anyway, I’m waaaay off track, but basically, we didn’t do much of anything this weekend and it was wonderful.  Friday afternoon I picked up the kids and we ran my car through the car wash.  I’ve been needing to get it washed for months, and the kids are always fascinated with the car wash, so I decided to wait and take them when they got out of school instead of going during the day without them.

When we got home, I presented to them their freshly cleaned out and organized play room and they were both so excited that they couldn’t stand it.  Olivia was the most excited because every single one of her princesses were all together and accounted for… and so were every single one of their teeny tiny shoes.  (Yes, yes I did match up every single teeny tiny piece to every single toy during the clean-out process.)  Now let’s just hope it lasts.

We were all marveling over the sheer volume of Olivia’s princesses (I think she has every single one of them… I honestly can’t think of any that she’s missing) so I thought it would be fun to take a picture with all of them.  She chose which princess dress to put on and then we snapped a few pictures to kill time while we were waiting on B to get home from work.  How stinking cute is this?

When B got home, we all headed back to the new pizza place in town.  We are head over heels in love and just can’t stop going there, y’all.  It’s only been open for just over a couple of months and we’ve already been there four times.  We probably would have been even more than that if the wait times hadn’t been so crazy long for the first few weeks after they first opened.  Their “Bottoms Up” pizza is unbelievable and they have an extensive craft beer list which we love.  Not to mention they have my favorite beer of all time – Tropicalia by Creature Comforts – which is virtually impossible to find due to the high demand for it.  It’s brewed right here in Georgia… in Athens, actually.  #GoDawgs  ;o)

When we got home, we decided to have a family game night on a whim.  The kids received several new games for Christmas and there were a couple we hadn’t yet played, so we selected four to play, popped some popcorn, and spent the evening goofing off.

After the kids went to bed, B and I watched three episodes of Friends from College because season 2 was released this weekend!  We loved the first season so much that we blew through it in like a week, and we’ve been waiting for a year and a half for the second season.  If you haven’t seen it you should definitely check it out!  It’s quirky and funny and unique and cute.  I just love it.

Saturday I got to work on a few projects around the house, and then B headed off to a tennis match around lunchtime.  Olivia asked if she could help me make lunch so I let her make her own peanut butter and jelly sandwich for the first time ever and she did the BEST job.  I was so proud of her!  And she was extremely proud of herself.  So proud that she asked me to snap a picture to show to Brian when he got home from his match because she wanted him to see it.  At first she told me she was going to wait to eat it until he got home, but I told her she couldn’t do that because she would have been waiting two hours and eating lunch at, like, 3 PM.  Haha.

Saturday evening we went to church, and then we met my parents, uncle, and my brother and his fam for Mexican.  My voice has been totally gone for the last two weeks (no cough, runny nose, or any other symptoms, though) but I have been staying away from the baby just in case I have any germs, so I have been dyyyying not being able to hold her.  Since I’m finally better, Saturday night I grabbed her right when we arrived at the restaurant and I didn’t put her down until it was time to eat.  I had to get my baby fix!  She fell asleep in my arms almost right away and it was pretty much heaven.  I have a feeling that heaven is going to look a lot like snuggling tiny babies, cheese dip, and margs.  Haha.

At one point my parents had all of the grandbabies in their laps at the same time, so we tried to take some pictures, and out of about 50 pictures, these were the best we got.  Haha.  Tucker wouldn’t smile half the time, Olivia kept reaching over and eating cheese dip, and Chyler was looking everywhere but the camera.  It’s like herding cats, I tell ya.

We swung by DQ on the way home (because we basically always do after Mex) and then we ate our Blizzards by the fire and watched an episode of Tidying Up + two more episodes of Friends from College.  Saturday night perfection.

Sunday morning Brian and the kids turned on a movie, so I sat behind them in the kitchen and did my planning for the week while sipping my hot cinnamon tea.  I've had umpteen requests to do a post about how I use my planner and keep everything organized, and this Wednesday I'll finally be sharing all about it!  It'll be good and detailed, so be sure to stop by if you like that sort of thing!  I know I do.  :o)

We had lunch at my MIL and step-FIL’s, and afterward, we all ventured into the back yard for some fresh air.  We had all been cooped up all weekend because it was rainy and cold, so it was nice to get out even if it was still cold and dreary.

Sunday evening was spent at our usual hangout – my parents’ house – where I got more baby time.  Perfect way to end the weekend and start the week off on the right foot!

Happy Monday, y’all!

  6. I love the picture with the princesses. I probably asked you this already but where did you get that white blanket? They used to have them at Ikea for cheap but they don't anymore! The pictures of the grandkids with your parents are so cute! I think my idea of heaven is similar to yours, baby snuggles and puppies!

  11. What a great low-key weekend. And yes to all the baby snuggles, Mr. is a huge baby hog, so I barely ever get baby snuggles, haha! Love that picture of O with her princesses. Good for you for matching all that stuff up. Mini Fox has so many toys I don't know how to keep them all in check!

  13. What a great weekend and I must agree that January is becoming a favorite of mine, too! There's just something about starting fresh. Great job even finding the barbie shoes. #goals I'll have to check out Friends From College. We just finished Stranger Things and now we're on to Ozark. I also want to start The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel! Also, I've toooootally been reading all of your other blog posts - I apologize for not always commenting...it's a goal of mine to get back to not only reading blog posts, but commenting on them, as well! Have a great Monday, girlfriend!!!

  18. Sometimes a slow weekend is the EXACT thing that's needed! Our Sunday was super lazy, too, and I loved it. January is sort of like when that plan you made that you didn't really want to go through with gets cancelled -- in month form. ;) A good excuse to stay in! Love that picture of O with her princesses!

  19. That is quite the Princess collection your princess has. Measuring them against her height is darling. Baby snuggles are the BEST and I can't wait to have a lap full of grandkids. Happy Tuesday!!! XOXO
