We had a great week, and the unexpected blanket of snow covering everything Sunday morning was the icing on the cake. Here’s how our week went…
Monday, January 12
Monday morning, I dropped the kids at school and then I stuck around for a Home and School Advisory Board meeting. It’s time to plan the Daddy / Daughter and Mother / Son dances, so we had a lot to discuss. My friend, Bianca, and I have been working together to co-chair both every year, and I’m really excited about the theme that she came up with for this year. It should be fun!
After my meeting, I headed home to flip the laundry that I’d started, and I threw another load in before grabbing a cup of tea and started working on my blog post for the next day.
I had an appointment with my primary doctor about my vertigo mid-morning, and it was nice to finally get to talk to her about my vertigo medicine tapering issues I had in November. She was on maternity leave when all that happened, so I had to talk to her PA, and while the PA was great, it’s always nice to be able to discuss everything with the doctor who knows you best.
She and I both agreed that the tapering process going forward should be suuuuper slow, so we put a plan in place. I recently moved from a half a pill once a day to a quarter of a pill once a day, and thankfully, the side effects only lasted for a couple of days this time. She told me to continue taking a quarter of a pill (we’re seriously talking about a literal crumb at this point, y’all) for the rest of the month and then move to a quarter of a pill every other day in February. Then move to a quarter of a pill every three days in March, and so on. Hopefully when I finally drop the final dose my body won’t spin out of control this time. But it’s definitely going to be a long process.
After my appointment, I headed back home to lay out the laundry and then have lunch with Brian. I did some more blog work after lunch, and then I got dinner in the slow cooker before heading to the school to pick up Olivia.
When we got home, she worked on homework while I was doing my quiet time, and then I went out for a walk.
Olivia made another Reel (she is having way too much fun in her TV production class!) and then she organized her new pencil bag. She requested a very specific one with multiple pockets, and we found the perfect one on Amazon. She is in love and I absolutely love how she got so excited to get it all organized and set up. She is falling more in love with organization and home decor the older she gets.
After my shower, I headed downstairs to boil the noodles for the pasta and get the broccoli in the slow cooker, and Olivia made chocolate chip muffins for her and Jacob to have for breakfast and snacks.
When the boys got home, we all sat down together to eat ranch chicken pasta, broccoli, and muffins, and then we got the kitchen cleaned up when we were done.
I took some time after dinner to get a couple of new items put away that we’d recently purchased. I finally bought an electric kettle after years of being a hot tea drinker and it’s been a game changer. Since I use it multiple times per day, I wanted it in a prominent spot on the kitchen counter, so I stored our Keurig in a cabinet with all our other appliances because it gets very minimal use as I’ve pretty much stopped drinking coffee other than the occasional season beverage from Starbucks. I wanted to save the coffee maker for when we have guests, so I made room for it rather than donating it.
I also bought a couple of new sets of icon glasses for my Manhattans – a Valentine’s Day version and an everyday version – so I had to move some things around in our cabinets to accommodate those as well. After having all that stuff sitting out on the countertops for so long it was nice to have them out of the way.
After the kids were done showering and getting ready for bed, we watched a few trailers for shows and movies to decide to watch next, but we ran out of time to actually watch something, so the kids went to bed and then Brian and I ended the night with an episode of Platonic.
Tuesday, January 13
Tuesday morning, I got the kids off to school and then I headed back home to bundle up in my electric blanket and keep warm while I worked all day. It was so cold last week!
I spent the morning working on my blog post for the next day, and it took a really long time since it took lots of thought to plan out my goals for the year. I had been thinking about them for months, so I had a pretty good picture of what I wanted the year to look like, but getting them all down on paper always takes a while as I probably overthink them.
The power randomly went out at 9:45 AM right as I was in the middle of typing a sentence, so I had to put my work on hold. I still have no clue why it went out, but it was out for almost an hour. I used that hour to put away a bunch of the laundry that I’d washed on Sunday and Monday, and then I got right back to work when the power came back on.
I picked up Olivia when she got out of school and when she and I got home, she read her book and I did my quiet time and finished my book. Meanwhile, Brian picked Jacob up from e-sports a little early and took him to his first golf practice of the season. He also picked up a whole Chick-Fil-A meal for him to eat on the way because he had texted me to tell me he was hungry and he knew it was the night of the week that we usually eat late due to Olivia’s dance schedule.
I took Olivia to dance, and then I stopped for gas on the way home. I had just enough time to get in a quick walk before the sun set, and I finished my blog post for the next day when I got back.
Jacob got showered while I cooked and then we all ate dinner when Brian and Olivia got home. Olivia showered after dinner, I put away the rest of the laundry, and then Brian and I watched another episode of Platonic after the kids went to bed.
I also got this text from Mama Cass late in the evening... she'd finished her bottle of eggnog and her bottle of Jack Daniels and she was sad that her holiday season was over. Hahahaha. I LOVE HER.
Wednesday morning, we woke up to pouring cold rain. I had a hair appointment, so I slept until 6:30, and then Brian got the kids to school. I worked on my blog post for Friday until my hair guy arrived, and then after he highlighted and cut my hair, I showered and got ready for the day. It never gets old having someone come to my house to do my hair, y’all! It’s just so much easier!
Once I was ready for the day, I ate lunch and caught up on some blog reading, and then I worked on my blog post for Friday some more before I had to get the kids from school.
We went straight home after school, and both kids did some studying and Olivia did some reading. I grabbed a cup of hot tea to accompany me during my quiet time, and then I went out for a walk even though it was so cold and gloomy.
After I got off the phone, I finished getting dinner ready – leftover ranch chicken pasta that we’d had Monday, freshly steamed broccoli, and garlic cheese bread. The boys and I ate together and after the kitchen was clean, the three of us worked on our puzzle together. I had considered doing something productive after dinner, but after that call, I just wanted to spend quality time with my lovies.
Brian picked Olivia up from dance when she got out, and Jacob got ready for bed while they were gone. I tidied my office a little, and then Brian and I watched another episode of Platonic after the kids got in bed.
Thursday, January 15
Thursday morning, I dropped the kids at school and then I went home to work all day. I finished my blog post for Friday and then I spent the rest of the day looking at aaaallll my lists and figuring out how I wanted to reorganize them. The goal was to simplify and combine a few of them and then to digitize them, so I got started digitizing them right away. I used to keep them on my computer, but in recent years I’ve been wanting to have access to them on the go, so I worked to transfer them to my phone.
After school, the kids had music lessons, and I sat with Jacob this week. He worked on his new song, and it made me tear up. He just plays so beautifully, and I just know that’s God’s handiwork. It is a true God given talent that he has, no doubt about it. He makes it look effortless. When he finished, we opened the door to see several people standing outside to listen. Haha. Olivia and her teacher were two of them, and Mr. Steve was super impressed. He doesn’t get to hear Jacob play often because he’s with Olivia during Jacob’s lesson, so he was excited to catch the end of it.
When we got home, I did my quiet time and warmed up with a cup of hot tea, and then I got out in the freezing cold to walk. The wind was whipping and the windchill was 31 degrees, and that is dedication for this southern girl, my friends. It was SO cold. Hahahaha.
I worked some more on organizing my lists while we watched, and then
Brian and I finished season two of Platonic after the kids went to
bed. That show is just so dang funny,
y’all.
Friday, January 16
Friday, I dropped the kids at school and then I headed home to GET STUFF DONE. It was 23 degrees out, so I had no intention of setting foot outside. I ended up tackling tons of things on my list:
-
Started and finished my blog post for Monday
-
Placed a Target order for my tea
-
Responded to all emails… including a few that had
been sitting in my inbox forever that needed attention
-
Called the dentist office to update our insurance
information
-
Ordered tickets for the annual benefit ball that we
attend
-
Sent some dates to the parents in Olivia’s class
since I’m the room parent
-
Added a few dates to my calendar
-
Ordered Jacob’s golf shirts for the upcoming season
-
Printed tax documents for my blog
-
Updated ad text for my ad company
-
Started my blog post for Tuesday
-
Picked up a prescription from CVS
-
Stopped by Hobby Lobby to get something framed (but
their frame person was on their lunch break so that was a bust)
-
Stopped by the library to renew our library cards,
return some books, and pick up a book
So many things checked off the list on Friday! And I got to chat with my bestie, Jeannine,
at the library!
Olivia ran out to the car after school, waving a giant Ziploc bag in her hand, and I had no idea what was going on. In last period, her tooth that had been loose for a while had finally come out and all her teacher had was a gallon Ziploc bag to put it in. Haha.
When the kids and I got home from school, I did my quiet time and read for a bit, and then I worked some more on digitizing my lists on my phone.
The kids had some screen time, and Olivia Face Timed with her friends. She has been loving getting to chat with them from home more often.
Brian picked up Carrabba’s for dinner and I made some Manhattans for the two of us in my new icon glasses while he was gone.
After the movie, we got word that our friend’s daughter’s brain surgery was a success, and I was so grateful to hear it.
The kids got in bed, Olivia put her tooth under her pillow, and then Brian and I finished the evening with the first half of The People We Meet on Vacation. I loved that book, so I was really excited about it.
Saturday, January 17
Saturday morning, I woke up and lay in bed for a few extra minutes just being cozy and peaceful. It was the best way to start the day!
The kids were already up, so I made waffles, and after breakfast we cleaned the kitchen. The kids did their laundry and then I got started on some tasks for the day. I’m in the middle of cleaning out the house again as I do every January, so I wanted to check some areas off the list. I ended up getting quite a few things done:
-
Washed towels
-
Watered plants
-
Cleaned out my dresser
-
Cleaned out my reading nook in our bedroom
-
Cleaned out and rearranged my nightstand
-
Rearranged the shelf in my office… again haha
I typically read in bed, so my nightstand was cluttered with books and
bookmarks and other random stuff, so I finally got it cleaned out, I made a
space in my top drawer for the books I’m reading, and now my nightstand is so
much less cluttered. One thing I refuse
to get rid of? My old, ugly alarm clock
that I’ve had since I was ten years old.
I’ve used that alarm clock every single school/workday for the past 33
years and it’s still going strong!
| Nightstand before |
| Nightstand after... much better! |
I got out for a walk in the afternoon while the kids had some screentime, and then I did my quiet time and had my afternoon tea.
When we got home, we all got cozy in our pjs, Brian put a fire in the fireplace, and then we settled in to watch Independence Day. It’s one of my favorite movies from my childhood and the kids had never seen it. About 15 minutes into Jacob looked over at us and said, “I can already tell this is going to be my favorite movie of all-time!” Haha. He LOVED it. And may I say that the special effects in that movie are ah-mazing… and the movie came out in 1996!! That movie has certainly stood the test of time… it doesn’t look dated at all.
It's a long movie, so we only got about halfway through it, and then the kids went to bed. Brian and I stayed up and finished the movie People We Meet on Vacation, and then we started the show The Beast in Me because we’d heard good things about it. I did end up liking People We Meet on Vacation, but I do think it was a little cheesy in the beginning. And, of course, the book is way better.
Sunday, January 18
Sunday morning, I heard Brian get up and leave our room. He never leaves the room before I do on the weekend mornings, so I thought it was odd. It was still fairly dark outside so I looked over at the clock and saw that it was only 7:30. I lay there for a minute and tried to go back to sleep, but then it occurred to me that the meteorologists in our area had been saying that there was a chance that the areas south of us could get snow overnight. There wasn’t a high chance for us at all, so we hadn’t really thought much about it. After remembering this, I picked up my phone to check the weather, and I had several messages in my girls group chat with pictures of SNOW!
I jumped out of bed and peeked out the window, and sure enough, there was a full blanket of snow outside. I couldn’t believe it. We had completely brushed off the thought of snow altogether, so I was SHOCKED that it had actually happened. Here in Georgia, we get snow once every 4-5 years or so, and before our snow in January 2025, it hadn’t snowed here in seven years. So, to get snow two years in a row? Just wild!
I left our room, and Brian and the kids were already dressed and getting boots on to head outside. Olivia had gotten up and had seen that it snowed so she woke Jacob up, and they were both debating waking us up before Brian got up and found them. Haha.
We all got into our jackets and hats and boots and headed outside, me still in my pjs. Haha. It was so quiet and peaceful, and we could hear shouts of laughter around the neighborhood as other kids came outside to enjoy it. We took some pictures before the snow got too sullied by our boots, and then Brian and the kids started having a snowball fight.
The sun came out late in the morning, and by noon most of the snow had melted away, so we decided it was safe to get on the road and continue with our regularly scheduled plans. We all got ready and headed out to pick up Jacob’s friend, WJ, from his grandparents’ house to hang with us for the next couple of days.
The kids wanted Culver’s for lunch, so we ate there, and then we met up with my friend, Jeannine, and her boys to play mini golf at a local entertainment center. The eight of us played 18 holes, and then we headed home to rest for a bit before it was time to go to my parents’ house for Sunday dinner.
When we got home, the boys retreated to Jacob’s room to hang out, and Brian, Olivia, and I finally watched the last episode of the Taylor Swift Eras Tour documentary. It was so, so good and I cried again. Haha.
Olivia went to bed after that, so Brian and I watched another episode of The Beast in Me, and then we told the boys goodnight before heading to bed!
And that was our week!
Happy Tuesday, y’all!
