Not Our Best Weekend

Well you guys, this weekend was a humdinger.

As I mentioned in my Five On Friday post last week, Olivia had some kind of stomach virus all night last Thursday night.  We kept her out of school Friday and she seemed to be getting better, but then she had more tummy trouble Saturday, and then she got sick in the middle of the night Saturday night again.  I’ll spare you the details.  We’re not sure exactly what’s going on, but we’ve monitoring her closely and we’re praying that it’s finally over.  Oh, and that nobody else gets it.  PLEASE.  I don’t think I can take anymore.

Jacob was very low-key Saturday evening and all he wanted to do was sit next to me on the couch and read books.  He looked pitiful.  When he requested to go to bed at 6:45 we knew something was wrong, so we took his temp, and sure enough, fever.  We prepared for the worst since I was so sick all week with fever, aches, chills, and a nasty cough, but he miraculously awoke on Sunday feeling good.  He does still have the cough, but he’s back to his crazy, mischievous self, so I know that he must be feeling better.

Anyway, since the entire weekend was filled with sickness, we barely left the house.  We spent the weekend washing germy laundry, Lysoling the house, and washing more germy laundry.  Our washer and dryer literally ran all day – morning, afternoon, and night – on Saturday and most of the day Sunday, and I still haven’t finished.

We spent the remainder of the time lounging in PJs, watching football and Christmas movies, decorating Christmas trees in the babies’ rooms, and snuggling.

By Sunday evening, everyone was feeling much better and cabin fever was setting in, so we all showered and bundled up the kids to go to the park for some fresh air.  Let me tell you, that so redeemed the weekend.  We walked in the fresh fall air, fed the geese, picked up acorns, and just enjoyed not being cooped up in the house.

My parents banished us from Sunday dinner because they didn’t want to risk getting sick (I don’t blame them one little bit), so we went to Target to peruse the Christmas decorations, and then we headed over to Panera for dinner.  The kids were super sweet and very happy (probably just to be out of the house) and we actually had a wonderful evening.

We are incredibly thankful that this all happened when it did and not during the holiday week, and now we’re just praying that the germs are long gone and that no one else gets sick!  Seriously, I think we’ve more than paid our dues for at least the rest of the year.
Happy Thanksgiving week!!
