Confessions {9.29.2016} + Sometimes Life Happens

Well, this week went downhill in the very wee hours of the morning yesterday.  Olivia started fussing around 4 AM Wednesday morning, so I stumbled out of bed, grabbed her from her crib in her bedroom, and transported her to her pack n’ play in our bedroom as I have done many, many times lately due to her bad dreams.  I covered her in her blanket and she snuggled down with her Sheepie, and I had just gotten back into bed, when I heard her heaving like she was going to throw up.

Needless to say, none of us got any more sleep that night, and B had to stay home with her all day Wednesday.  Whether or not she is actually sick or she’s just doing that weird throwing-up-because-she’s-teething-thing remains to be seen.  She actually only really threw up once after breakfast and all of the other times nothing came out, so it’s hard to say.  'Tis the season, though...

Anyhoo, between that and being slammed at work on Wednesday plus living on less than five hours of sleep on Tuesday night, I feel like I don’t have many brain cells to put a post together, but I’ll do my best.

I confess…

… that I especially hate having a corporate job when my babies are sick.  I am their mother and it is my wish as well as my obligation to be able to be with them when they need me the most and it really sucks being at work while your husband sends you texts talking about how sad they look.

… that our sick-child policy at work plain sucks and that’s why B usually stays with them when they are sick.

… that B’s work’s sick-child policy is great and I’m really thankful that one of us works for a company who is family-oriented.

… that every time one of our kids throws up I go into full panic mode because stomach viruses completely freak me out.  In my book, they are possibly one of the worst things to have, and I sometimes feel like I want to die when I have one.  #ButDontWorryIWont

… that seeing my kiddos when they’re sick like that is just completely heart-wrenching.  I hate hate hate seeing them like that and I just wish I could take it from them.  #ThatsTrueLove

… that I was a Lysoling madwoman when I got home from work last night.  #IEvenLysoledTheCouch #IWouldHaveLysoledBrianIfHeWouldHaveLetMe

… that I’m literally terrified that Jacob or Brian or myself are going to get the cooties and we will have to miss taking Jacob to his first Georgia game this weekend.  #IrrationalFears  #PleasePrayForUs

… that someone getting sick right before an important event/meeting/trip/holiday is one of my biggest fears in life.  Like, I actually waste lots of time worrying about that before every single event.  #WhenYouHaveKidsYourChancesAreReallyHighThough #ButIThinkIStillNeedTherapy

… that I’m making myself (and probably you as well, if you’re even still here) nauseated even discussing all of this sickness so I’m going to stop now.

… that I feel really bad for making you read about puke during this whole post, so I’m going to put some happier images in your head now to make up for it.  Here we go… doggies in Halloween costumes… crackling fires in the fire place… a snuggly blanket on a cold day… Tim Riggins (or in my case, Coach Taylor) holding a baby…

Is it working?

Yes?

Ok, then I think we’re done here.

  4. So sorry Olivia is sick!! I can't imagine being a working mom with sick babies. This is why I think all working moms are rockstars!!! Hope she's feeling better and y'all don't get it. I swear I have PTSD from the tummy bug Patrick and I got from Jack right before I got pregnant with Graham. It still haunts me. Haha

  6. Poor Olivia! And you guys! I know how hard it is to work and be away from them when they're sick, but really I'm so surprised your work doesn't have a better policy! I remember getting to use my sick days for my kids when they were sick and that's how it should be!! I remember you telling me about this awful policy though, I thought maybe it got better! Ugh how annoying!

  7. Oh friend your sense of humor always comes through and leaves me smiling. I remember the days of sick kids and work and a boss who acted like the world was going to fall to pieces. It sucked. I hope she is feeling better and when all else fails I just spray the Lysol in my mouth. Maybe you should try that too? KIDDING, don't do that :P.

  9. I'm so sorry to hear you've been having a rough few days. I hope she feels better soon and you can get some rest. I am right there with you, I hate working knowing my little ones aren't feeling well. Corporate America is so unfair to working parents. My husbands job is a lot more flexible than mine and also give him a work from home day, so a lot of times he steps up to the plate to stay home with them. Hang in there and keep thinking about those doggies in halloween costumes :) Beautifully Candid

  10. Ugh kids being sick is the WORST! We've struggled with colds this fall already, but no puking. *knocks on wood*

  11. Oh no! I'm so sorry she is sick/teething! I am the EXACT same way when it comes to sickness, especially the stomach bug! It terrifies the life out of me.

  12. I am so sorry that Olivia is sick again or having teething issues that cause her to throw up. That plain sucks. I hate when they start heaving. I freak out a bit and don't want them to choke. So scary. I hope she feels better soon and no one gets sick because of it. And thank you for the uplifting images at the end!

  13. I am the same way!! Tummy bugs freak me out... and we tend to have a kid get sick at the worst moments... before business trips, or big events... so your fear is totally justified!! fingers crossed this passes quickly!! #SendingHealthyThoughts

  14. Ugh, I'm so sorry about Olivia. I swear it's science that someone always gets sick before a big event. Hoping this one is short-lived and she feels better soon. Almost the weekend!

  15. We have the same exact fears! I don't have children but if my nephews are sick and I've been around them I freak out. I don't know why but I fear a stomach virus more as an adult than I did growing up! I hope everyone stays healthy! Best, Cari.

  16. I am the exact same way!! When someone gets sick, I just know we're all going to get it and we might as well just hibernate for two weeks!!

  17. Oh no! I'm so sorry she wasn't feeling well! I hope no one else catches it! Your work actually has a specific sick child policy? That's such a bummer.

  18. Oh no I'm so sorry that your babies are sick! I really hope they feel better soon and that you come out of this without getting the bug. All the best!

  20. haha, sorry I feel the same way, but the ending of this was funny. I hate when the kids are sick...Mini Fox is fighting something off, and every time it goes straight to her lungs and she gets all gunky...and my Mr. has a great policy too, and is always the one to take them to the doctors, etc. I always feel so bad that I can't. Boo! Glad that she is feeling better though (I read your posts backwards this week)

  21. I hope Olivia feels better very soon! I don't think the 40-hour work week is very realistic...I wish people could work fewer hours and be paid slightly more. I don't believe every study I read, but one suggested that workers would be more productive if they had less time to do the work, and the additional family time would raise morale.
