Five on Friday - Currently

We have such a fun weekend on tap, and I’m beyond excited to get it started!  But first, a few of the things that have been going on around these parts…

O N E – Decorating for Fall

Well, I said that I was going to wait until September 1st to decorate, but I decided to go ahead and knock it out the night before last.  It’s not quite finished, but you may have seen my little sneak peek on Instagram Wednesday night.  I will share the rest with you later this season.  I have to wait until mums and real pumpkins are available before I can totally finish!

T W O – Olivia’s Two and a Half Year Check-up

Olivia had her 2.5 year well visit on Tuesday and it went really well.  She is now 36.5 inches (up 1.5 inches in the last 6 months), which is 75th percentile for height, and she is 32 lbs. (only up 2 lbs. in the last 6 months), which is 80th percentile for weight.  At her last check-up she was in the 77th percentile for height and 85th for weight, so she is gradually getting smaller for her age.  Still not small by any means, but she seems to have reached her plateau.

Jacob was always in the 90th and 95th percentiles early on, and he’s now in the 15th – 20th, so I assume that Olivia will gradually do the same.  Apparently we make giant babies that end up being tiny little peanuts when they get older.

Anyway, the doc checked her out, said she looks good, and sent us on our way.  She didn’t even need any vaccines this time.  Hooray for no shots!

P.S.  There are no boo-boos under those Band-Aids… she’s still wearing them for fashion… Nelly strikes again!

T H R E E – A Crib in Our Bedroom Again

No, I’m not preggo if that’s what you’re thinking.  Baby fever?  Always.  Pregnant or trying to get pregnant?  No.

Olivia has started waking somewhat frequently during the night these last few weeks, and we can’t figure out why.  She’s always been an amazing sleeper… I mean, really, really awesome… we put her down wide awake around 7:30, she falls right to sleep on her own, and then she sleeps through the night without a peep until we come in and get her, usually around 7 AM on weekdays and 8-8:30 AM on weekends.  If she wakes during the night crying, we know something is seriously wrong like ear infections or croup or something to that extent.  I can only count a handful of times that she’s awakened during the night during the last two years… until now.

These last couple of months have been rough.  She will wake up screaming her head off and then when we go in there, she can’t tell us why she’s crying. I’m assuming it’s some kind of night terror or bad dreams, but there’s no way to really know.  We soothe her, give her a baby to hug, and tuck her back in, but if we try to leave her she goes berserk.  Inevitably, whoever goes in there will be stuck until she falls back asleep, which some nights was taking 2-3 hours.  Just terrible.

A couple of weeks ago, after a particularly bad week, B got up with her, and I just told him to go pull out the Pack N Play and set it up in our room.  Now every time she cries, one of us will go in there, grab her, grab her baby, and grab her blanket, and carry her back to our room to sleep in the Pack N Play.  It’s been working like a charm, but I’m worried that we may be getting ourselves into a really bad habit that may be hard to break one day.  At this point, I’m choosing sleep over worrying about future habit-breaking, but if anyone has any advice, I’m all ears!

F O U R – Olivia’s First Dance Class

My friend and co-worker just put her daughter (who is just a few months older than Olivia) in a dance class, and they had a “bring a friend” class yesterday.  They asked us if we wanted to join them and I knew that this was a no-brainer.  When I asked Olivia if she wanted to go, her eyes just lit up and she said, “Yeeeeaaaahhhh!”

We borrowed the cutest leotard from them since Olivia didn’t have one of her own, and we set out for dance class.  When the teacher opened the door, Olivia ran straight in without looking back... no separation anxiety or anything!  I was sad because we couldn't watch.  They have the room closed off, I'm assuming because kids always act different when they can see their parents.  They were in there for an entire hour and we could hear the music bumping outside the door.  When it was over, Olivia came running out of the room with a huge smile on her face and she said, "I DANCE!!  I DANCE A LOT!!!!"  It was so cute.  They got smiley face stamps on their arms and lollipops for the road and she talked about it nonstop all the way home.  I guess we'll be putting her in dance in the near future.  Which also means I need to practice my topknots, because, clearly, I need help.

F I V E – The Gym

Still loving it!  I have about 30 minutes for my actual workout since I go on my lunch break and I have to have time to change and freshen up before going back to work.  I always walk on the treadmill and I’ve been walking about 3.5 miles per hour (which is pretty much me walking as fast as I can walk without running) on an incline.  I started on an incline of 3 the first day, and I’ve been gradually increasing it so I’m now up to a 5.  Doing the 3.5 MPH on an incline of 5 for 30 minutes gets me to almost 2 miles and it burns over 200 calories.  Not too shabby for a lunchbreak workout.

I plan on gradually increasing the incline and eventually I’ll probably increase the speed and start running.  I used to run cross country (when I was much younger) so I may try to get back into it!

Well friends, happy college football kickoff weekend (to those of you who care)… I know I do!!  GO DAWGS!

  2. Ughhh that really stinks about Olivia waking up!! I wonder what it could be? Good thinking with the pack n play, I would do anything to get sleep too.

Ahhh you will soon have a tiny dancer on your hands! And don't worry, for Ella's recital earlier this year I had to youtube a video on how to do her hair, ha ha.

  4. Oh man. Poor Olivia. I don't know if it's night terrors or not, but Eliza goes through the same thing here and there. She's so out of it, there's literally nothing I can do. She ends up screaming, and I mean screaming, and she's usually mumbling something I can't understand...I can never wake her. It's crazy. I try to rub her back, tell her Mommy is "right here," and I tuck her with her stuffed animals. It's heart-breaking and never know what to do! I know I'm not much help, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone. If you think of anything, let me know.

As for Olivia at dance - oh my cuteness!!! I can't wait to hear more about her dance class adventures! So fun and so stinkin adorable!!!

  6. Okay, I picked up a pumpkin very similar (maybe the same) as that one today at Target and put it back! Why did I do that? It’s so cute! I guess I need to go back. Olivia is a doll! Yay for a good check-up! I hate that she may be having night terrors. Mason has had them since he was a little tot. They are so hard! Our pediatrician told us to try not to talk to Mason when he’s in the middle of the night terror because we become part of the bad dream. Just try to soothe him by patting his back calmly and letting him get through it. That’s so much easier said than done, though. I pray that she gets through this and that it’s a very short phase. Masons aren’t as frequent as they used to be, but he does still get them. Usually it’s every 6 months (like clockwork), when he’s going through a growth-spurt, or when he has been over stimulated throughout the day! She is so cute in the leotard! Oh my word. I am melting! Happy Weekend!

  7. Great job on the workouts. I love that little tutu dress that Olivia is wearing. It is so cute. I can't wait for my girls to want to do dance. Yay for Olivia's stellar checkup. I also love that she wears bandaids for fun. Hope you have a good weekend!

  8. My son was in our room in a Pack and Play for a few months. He slept great in his crib in his own room until he was about one, then he hated it. We gave in to the fatigue though and just put him in our room. He ended up in there for about six months. It was rough.

Good luck! I know sleep regressions are the worst!

  12. I normally decorate for fall September 1st, but I'm waiting until after Lilli's birthday party this year. It's a lot harder than I thought not to decorate, haha! I'm so sorry Olivia is having such a hard time at night :( I wish I had some words of advice! BUT her little dance outfit is seriously the CUTEST!

  13. That leotard is so freaking cute!

It sounds like night terrors right? I haven't had any personal experience with them but they can be so tough. Maybe try and read up on them to see if it fits? I'll be praying for her.

  14. I want to decorate for fall but we're moving any day into our house so I need to wait until we're all moved in. It's a bummer! Also that dance outfit is so precious!!! <3

  15. What a mystery about the sleeping trouble! That's a bummer. She does look super cute in her dance outfit though! And those band-aids crack me up! Definitely a fashion statement!
