Five on Friday – Christmas Events Lately

Merry Christmas Eve Eve!  We have been busy these last couple of weeks finishing up the last of the Christmas things, and we have really packed in some special stuff in lately.  I feel like all we’ve been doing is Christmas stuff, and I have to say that I don’t have any problem with that whatsoever.

O N E – Fantasy in Lights

We have gone to Fantasy in Lights every year since I was a little girl.  It’s one of our favorite things to do in December, and we had a blast as always this year.  My parents, my uncle, both of my brothers, my sister-in-law, my nephew (it was his first time!), and my SIL’s sister and her husband all met our little family of four there on Tuesday evening this week.

We did a little bit of browsing and picture taking in the tent, and then we bought a donut bigger than Brian’s head.  Y’all, look at this thing!

After that, we loaded up on the jolly trolley, and rode the familiar ride through the Christmasy forest.  If you’re in the southeast, you really must make a trip there to see it.  I’ve been probably around 25 times in my life and it never gets old.

T W O – Jacob’s School Christmas Program

Monday evening we all packed into our church and watched the lower school Christmas program.  The kindergarten classes (Jacob’s class) sang All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth.  Most of the kids sang loud and proud, but Jacob pretty much stood there like he always does.  He adores music and he loves to hum to himself when he thinks no one is listening, but ask him to sing on command, and nope, no way.

We had been preparing him for this for weeks and Brian often asked him if he was going to sing really loudly for us, and he would always answer YES very enthusiastically, but when the time came, he just couldn’t deliver.  When it was over, Brian asked him why he didn’t sing, and Jacob’s response was, “Because I’m too shy.”

Hahahaha.

T H R E E – Jacob’s Class Christmas Party

Wednesday was Jacob’s class party.  They played Christmas BINGO and had snacks, and then they did a book exchange.  Each child had to bring a wrapped book to school.  They all sat in a circle holding their books and then every time the teacher would say a Christmasy word in the book she was reading, the kids had to hand their book to the child on their left.  At the end, every child had a different book than the one they had come with, and they all took turns unwrapping their books and finding out whose book they had received.  He is now out for Christmas break, that lucky dog!

F O U R – Olivia’s Class Christmas Party

Last week, Olivia had her class party.  They had snacks and a cake to celebrate the birthday of Baby Jesus.  They even sang Happy Birthday to him.  :o)  After they were done with their snacks they each opened the wrapped gifts that they had brought for the classroom.  Olivia brought a Sophia princess dress, and her best friend, Lucy, had brought an Anna princess dress, so both of the girls dressed up and played for a bit afterward.  Olivia wasn’t happy to be there at all.  At all.  Just look at her face.  Haha.

F I V E – Work Christmas Festivities

Each year, our company always puts on a Christmas luncheon for us and we also always hold a potluck lunch and everyone brings a gift to play Dirty Santa.  At our employee luncheon I sat with all of my favorite girls…

And my co-worker, Adrienne, and I had accidentally twinned that day!  We seem to do that for a lot of things!

For our potluck lunch and Dirty Santa party, we all wore ugly Christmas sweaters.  Most of the sweaters were sold out in our area, so I snagged a 3XL with penguins on it from Walmart and wore it like a tunic.  #AndItWasActuallyCute

Well friends, it’s been a great Christmas season.  We’ve done lots of Christmas activities, done loads of shopping, watched tons of Christmas movies, and now the weekend we have been waiting on and prepping for is finally here!

I hope you all have the very best Christmases with your families this weekend!  Sending lots of Christmas cheer your way!

I will be back next week with a Christmas recap, and maybe one or two other posts, but I plan on taking a little bit of time off, too, so there may be a couple of days that I’m absent.  Never fear, though, I’ll be back in full swing at the start of the new year!

  16. Fantasy in Lights sounds like a wonderful Christmas time tradition! That donut is awesome. Mason would get a kick out of that. Jacob melts me with his sweetness and shyness. Kids Christmas programs will forever be my favorite, even if they just stand there. There’s something so sweet and special about them. I think your penguin sweater/tunic looks adorable. I’m totally buying up all the festive Christmas sweaters next year!!
