Five on Friday – Favorites + Cash Giveaway Reminder

Happy Friday!  I am heading out to take Jacob on a field trip to the strawberry patch today and I’m really excited!

Let’s get started!  And make sure to read to the bottom because there’s a cash giveaway reminder!

O N E – New Shoes

I mentioned in yesterday’s post that B bought some new tennis shoes for me as part of my birthday gift.  He bought these that I’ve had my eye on for several weeks, and let me tell you, they are every bit as comfortable as they are cute!  I was so worried about buying shoes online and not having a chance to try them out first, but these were an excellent choice.  They have so much more cushion than my current shoes, and they are really breathable on the top which is great because I can’t stand to have hot feet.  You may also remember that I couldn’t find them in half sizes?  Well, B couldn’t either and he wound up getting an 8, but they are perfect.  I usually size up by a half of a size when tennis shoe shopping anyway.  I can’t wait to get lots of good walks in on the treadmill with these!

T W O – Birthday Love

And speaking of my birthday, I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for all of the emails/Insta DMs/FB messages/text messages/phone calls/gifts that I received on Wednesday.  My phone was blowing up all day and it was a much needed distraction from the scary weather that we were supposed to have.  I sincerely appreciated every single one.  And if you want to read 35 random facts about me for my 35th birthday, click here.

T H R E E – One Last Round of Weather

Wednesday night once we thought all of the bad weather was gone, I sat down to write my Thursday post, and in it, I discussed how we had survived the bad weather.  I set the post to go live at 3:30 the next morning (yesterday) and then I’ll be damned if an hour later another round of bad weather didn’t just pop up on the radar out of nowhere.  I watched it grow and grow (most of it red indicating it was severe), and then sure enough,  the news and weather people broke into our regularly scheduled programming to start discussing torrential rains, damaging winds, hail, and more tornado possibilities.  Ugh.  I immediately looked at B and said, “This is it.  This is going to be the big one just because my dumb self already wrote a post saying that we survived.”  (Welcome to how my brain works, LOL.)  I thought that maybe I should turn the computer back on and disable the post from going live as not to jinx us, but I was honestly so exhausted from not sleeping the night before, that I just let it ride.

We did end up having torrential rain, thunder, nonstop lightning, crazy strong winds, and marble sized hail and for about fifteen minutes I worried that a) the roof was going to cave in, b) the windows were going to shatter from the hail, and c) that the entire house might just blow away, but then all of a sudden, everything stopped.  It was eerie.  And I’m not gonna lie… I thought for sure at that moment that a tornado was going to drop out of the sky since you always hear about “the calm before the storm.”  Fortunately that did not happen, and that ended up being the storm’s last hurrah in our city.

I have never heard hail like that before, by the way, but it sounded ca-razy.  You could hear the balls bouncing all over the roof and pounding on the windows.  I have also never actually gone outside to see hail either (and I was curious to see how large ours was), so when it was over, I jumped outta bed, ran downstairs in the dark, and grabbed a handful so I could snap a quick pic before bed.  It was exactly like what you would expect, and also quite interesting.

I’m calling this one a favorite for the week, first of all, because we survived the last round, and second of all, because my words didn’t come back to haunt me!

F O U R – School Play

Now for something way happier… my munchie!  March was reading month at Jacob’s school, and to wrap it up, the kids in the lower school put on a play by reciting and acting out different books.  The kindergarten classes read Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes and Jacob got picked to recite one of the lines from the book!  There are around 44 kids among the two kindergarten classes and only about ten of them got to recite.  I was so excited that Jacob was one of them!  He did a great job, too!  He’s usually so nervous about getting up in front of people, but he completely rocked this!  He marched right up, put his mouth up to the microphone, and recited the words that he had memorized.  I was so proud!  I can’t even imagine how moms of Broadway play actors must feel.  Lol.

F I V E – Art Show

Last week was also the lower school art show at Jacob’s school, so we grabbed some CFA after school and then headed straight back to check it out!  Jacob took a picture with his piece in the show (his is the one on the bottom in the picture) and then they had cookies and lemonade followed by a serious dancing sesh to the music that they were playing.  You may have seen it on my Instastories.  It was so cute!  We purchased his art piece and then headed home.

Alright everybody, don’t forget that I teamed up with a few lovely ladies to bring to you a $50 PayPal cash giveaway!  Click here and scroll to the bottom of the post to enter.  There are only a couple of days left so you need to enter soon!
