Well, I had a
completely different post planned for today, but with recent weather events I
had no time to get it up, so today you’re going to get something else instead.
How I felt about the weather |
Because of the
scary predictions, all schools were closed yesterday as well as our local
government, and our mayor urged all companies to make the right decision and
let employees stay home. My work did not
close nor did Brian’s, but due to the fact that our kids were out of school, I
made the decision to stay home. I also
realized early on that my anxiety was going to be through the roof, so I begged
Brian to stay home as well. Fortunately
he works for an amazing company and they had no problem with it even though he
had an important all day meeting. He was
able to work from home via conference call and I was so grateful.
Another thing
that I am grateful for today? The fact
that all of the severe weather just split and went completely around our
city. We had one wave that came through
around 4 AM and it brought torrential rains, thunder and lightning, and some
pebble sized hail, and then we had another wave just before lunch that brought
about some more rain and thunder, but other than that, all of the major hail,
wind damage, and tornadoes went just south of us and just north of us.
One of the
cities just south of us supposedly had six tornadoes touch down. And there was also supposedly a huge tornado (1/2
mile to a mile wide) on the ground for a long time just north of us. Some people around us experienced tennis ball
sized hail, and plenty of people around us no longer have homes to go home to
as they were destroyed by tornadoes and fallen trees.
I am so, so incredibly
thankful that our city managed to avoid the worst of it and that all of our
loved ones are safe and sound.
We even had a
chance in the evening to do a little bit of celebrating since it was my
birthday! B was able to get his hands on
the Nikes that I’ve been wanting, and he also got the stair stepper that I’ve
been wanting. I’m a happy girl!
My parents also
knew how anxious I was about the weather, so they stopped by and surprised me
with some “sunshine” since I didn’t get any real sunshine for my birthday. I am just so thankful to have them in my
life.
So even though
my birthday wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned, it did end up being pretty
great. I got to spend the day with my babies while hubs worked in the other room and NOT across town… we watched Beauty and the Beast, played some
games, read some books, and did lots of snuggling… and more importantly, our
prayers were answered and we were kept safe and dry.
Please keep
everyone in your prayers who were not as fortunate as we were. There is going to be a long road ahead for
them.
So glad to hear that you guys missed the worst of it!!! And you had a great birthday despite it all!
ReplyDeleteI shudder just reading about it. a 1/2 mile wide tornado?? That is terrifying. I pray for all those affected, and am glad that you made it out ok.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Danielle. Me too!
DeleteI'm so glad the weather missed you guys and that you are safe. So scary.
ReplyDeleteWell you'll probably never forget this birthday! So glad the really bad weather missed you guys, I can't even imagine, that all sounds so scary of what could happen!
ReplyDeleteGlad the weather missed y'all! We are supposed to get some any time now. They delayed schools which means preschool is cancelled... you bet this mama is not happy hahaa. Especially since it doesn't even look like it's going to be near as bad as y'all! Glad you were able to enjoy your birthday despite the weather!
ReplyDeleteOh man friend, this post makes me want to throw up. I am cringing with memories of a mile wide tornado that wiped us out and all the emotions I know you were feeling yesterday. So thankful for your safety. You are totally right about the Weather Channel people too. It is a TERRIBLE feeling when they come to town.
ReplyDeleteLOVE those sneakers!
ReplyDeleteThose storms sound scary! Glad y'all are ok!
I'm glad you had a good birthday despite the scariness of the weather! My brother works for the weather channel. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, how scary! I'm so happy you guys are okay and I'll keep others in your area in my thoughts and prayers. I love it so much that your parents were sweet enough to drop by and give you flowers. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so, so thankful that it missed you guys, but so sad for those who lost homes. That's awful. Glad you were able to fit some sunshine into your Birthday (sweet parents), and so glad Brian's company was cool about staying home. Plus it was your Birthday, so you needed the family time anyway! Happy Birthday Linds. Hope you get to do some more celebrating this weekend with sunny skies and maybe a left over rainbow from the storms.
ReplyDeleteWow those are some crazy storms, glad you guys are ok. Your birthday tulips are so pretty and I love your new nikes.
ReplyDeleteSo glad everyone was safe. I stayed glued to the TV watching the weather yesterday! Our little town just got the rain, thunder, and lightening...thank goodness~
ReplyDeleteGlad you were safe- I would lose my mind if we had tornadoes.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, it's terrifying.
DeleteSo glad you were all safe. Those storms sound crazy. On a brighter note, I am glad you got spoiled for your Birthday!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenna! Me too! And we're going to do some real celebrating tonight!
DeleteSo glad you are all okay! And while not an ideal day, kind of a sun surprise that you all got to be HOME and not in an office :-) Hope you get to do some celebrating to make up for the icky weather this weekend!
ReplyDeleteBad weather gives me the worst anxiety. Especially tornadoes. I hate it! And I hate that you guys had to go through this yesterday and on your birthday. Praise the Lord you guys are safe! Those Nikes are such a pretty color. And the yellow tulips? Those just scream happy! I hope you were able to still enjoy your special day!
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to mention how AWESOME you were at giving me updates while I was at work! Thanks, twin!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are all okay and the storms missed you! Glad you had a little fun on your birthday! xoxo ERIN
ReplyDeleteGlad that it missed you, but sorry for those that it didn't. Hey I think that is the stair stepper that Andrea mentioned a few weeks ago...let me know what you think about it. She says she writes blog posts while stepping away...that is the part that has me intrigued...write blogs posts and exercise, heck ya!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are all safe and sound. Yay for getting the pink shoes and stair stepper. Let me know what you think of the stair stepper!
ReplyDeleteIt's still coming down awful here. I am eager for the weather to break and have some sunshine in our lives.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you were all home together and that the worst of the weather missed you guys! What a relief!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I realized how serious this time of year is for the south when it comes to the weather. I am so glad you all were safe. I wish more jobs would be understanding about things. Eric's is a lot more like Brian's and mine barely closes when it's a state of emergency. Your parents are so sweet and thoughtful.
