Currently… August 2025

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

I try to do these “currently” posts at least once a quarter, and at the beginning of each year, I add four to my editorial calendar in random places.  However, for the past year, I have been bumping them for other content, and I realized recently that it’s been nearly a whole year since I’ve done one of these, which is just crazy!!  Y’all ready for some randomness?

I’m currently…

Making: Lots of plans as usual.  Right now, I’m working on Grandparent’s Day at the kids’ school as I am the chair for that event.  I’m also starting to think about our upcoming trip to Universal Studios this fall.  We have never been, so it will be our first time, and we’re going with friends which will make it even more fun!  And I’m already starting to look forward to the holidays… because it’s never too early to start planning for any of those.  I’ve already printed my Holiday Checklist and I’m checking things off, too.

Cooking: I would love to say that I’m trying a bunch of new recipes and getting out of the usual cooking rut that I’m in, but nope, I’m still sticking to quick and easy meals that I cook all the time – stir fry, turkey and cheese biscuit sliders, slow cooker chicken and ranch pasta, beef and parmesan pasta, etc.  And we have breakfast for dinner at least once a week.  I am really ready for a cool down so I can start cooking some soups and our favorite white chicken chili, too.

Drinking: Lots of water as always, my beloved Harney & Sons Hot Sunset Cinnamon Black Tea every morning and every afternoon, and my green protein smoothie every single day… it’s how I get my collagen in every day!  And on weekends, Brian and I pretty much always indulge in a glass of wine, a beer, or a cocktail.  My faaaavorite drink right now is a Manhattan.  I found them by accident back in February when my favorite local restaurant did away with one of their signature cocktails – the one that I always got – so I decided to randomly try a Manhattan, and friends, it ended up being the best thing because I can’t get enough of them!  They’re very similar to an Old Fashioned, but even better, in my opinion.  I love them so much that Brian found a recipe online, bought the ingredients, and we’ve been making them at home.  If you had told me 5 years ago that a whiskey drink was going to be my favorite drink, I would have told you there was NO WAY.  But here we are…

Eating: All of the stuff that I cook, for starters.  In addition to that, I’m still on an eggs with cottage cheese for breakfast kick, and I often eat eggs with cottage cheese for lunch, too.  A green protein smoothie a day, Kind breakfast bars, and Kodiak protein bars round out my snacks.  I honestly don’t get a lot of variety for breakfast, lunch, and snacks each day, but dinner is always different.

Reading: I’m currently working my way through The Small and the Mighty by Sharon McMahon (one of my favorite people on Instagram).  It’s a book about twelve unsung heroes in American History (who you probably haven’t heard of) who helped change the course of history in positive ways.  I don’t usually enjoy historical books, but this one has been great so far.  I’m also still reading my Bible daily and doing The Bible in a Year study guide.  And I’m reading my daily devotional, Everyday Gospel, by Paul David Tripp

Wanting: The weather to match the vibes in my heart.  I’m so ready for fall, but these 90+ degree temps are not allowing it.  Yet.

Looking: Forward to everything that the next four months will bring – reveling in my fall, Halloween, and eventually Christmas décor.  College football.  Crisp weather.  Friday night lights.  Cozy evenings at home.  Sweaters.  White chicken chili.  Pumpkin spice lattes.  Going to Universal Studios for the first time.  Our Pumpkins at Callaway tradition.  A Brandon Lake concert.  Trick-or-treating.  Our Halloween play list.  Fires in the fireplace.  The time change (yes, I am one of those people who LOVES to fall back because my body feels like it is sleeping in).  Thanksgiving with family.  Christmas music.  Christmas movies.  Our Fantasy in Lights tradition.  Having a Christmas tree in the corner of the living room again.  Seeing the Frozen play at the theater.  Christmas Eve and Day.  The weeks after Christmas where we don’t know what day it is because the kids are out for Christmas break and Brian is off of work.  Cocktails on random Wednesday nights just because.  Sleeping in every day for 2.5 weeks straight because we can.  New Year’s Eve and the hope, possibilities, and clean slate that a new year brings.

Playing: Music, music, music.  I listen to it all day while I work.  Sometimes I just listen to Z100 (based out of New York) and sometimes I listen to my own collection.  Lately, I’ve been listening to a whole lot of Taylor Swift to gear up for TS12, but I’ve also been throwing some other random singles in the mix that I’ve recently downloaded.  And since it’s now fall in my book, the sounds of old standards and cocktail jazz will soon be floating through the house.  Yes ma’am.

Wasting: Nothing at this time, I don’t think?  I’m not really a wasteful kind of gal.  Time is precious so I rarely waste it (other than occasional periods where I will get sucked in to social media).  Food is precious because so many don’t have it.  Money is precious since the cost of everything has skyrocketed.  So, I really cannot think of anything that I’m wasting at this time (although, Brian may say money since I recently purchased three different copies of an album by a certain artist, hahahaha).  I’m a pretty intentional person, though, and I don’t really waste much of anything.

Buying: Not much this whole year until just recently.  We had to purchase all of the back-to-school things, but those were all necessities.  I did recently purchase three items from Hollister (more on that below) that I didn’t need but wanted soooo bad, and I also purchased a few of these tops when they went on sale for $8 because I love them so much.  But other than that?  Not much for myself.  I will be purchasing my new planner this week for 2026, though!  Simplified launch day is Wednesday.  Y’all know how much I love and utilize those planners!!  This will be my 8th year using a Simplified Planner and I still love it just as much today as I did eight years ago.  It has everything I need and nothing I don’t need.

Sewing: Nothing.  Ever.  Safety pinning?  Yes.  Liquid stitching?  Yes.  But sewing.  Never.  My mother-in-law does currently have a sweater of mine that came undone at one of the seams, so does that count even though she’s sewing it for me?  Haha.

Wishing: That our kids would stop bringing home so many dang germs… at what age does this end?  Haha.  At less than three weeks into school, we’ve already had one kid miss a day because of a low-grade fever and congestion.

Loving: All of the Taylor Swift Easter eggs that have been dropped and all of the theories behind them.  I just love how she does this for her fans, and I love all of the fans who take the time to analyze every single tiny detail of every single thing she does to see how things are linked, and to predict when singles will drop, what album covers will look like, what songs could mean (even though we haven’t yet heard the lyrics), when she could potentially start touring again (or do a residency in Las Vegas!!!!), and whether or not she will be headlining the Super Bowl halftime show this year!

Hoping: That the weather starts to change really soon because I am so ready for signs of fall!  Georgia football starts this weekend, and I couldn’t be more ready for crisp weather, colorful leaves, and a chill in the air so we can finally start enjoying some time outside.  Not to mention, I’m ready to start making soups and slow cooker meals again.  And yes, this is my second blurb about weather here, so you can see just how much it means to me.  Haha.

Marveling: At how much thicker my hair is one year after starting my daily Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides regimen.  I have struggled with hair shedding / thinning since I had our two babies (and let’s be honest – I don’t have much to begin with as mine is very fine and thin), and it gets particularly bad when I am stressed or experience a long-term bout of bad anxiety.  I started taking Sulfurzyme from Young Living a few years ago, and it did help a lot with my hair loss and regrowth, but friends, when I started taking my Vital Proteins every day, the regrowth ramped up tremendously, and my hair is thicker than it’s been since I was pregnant.  (Gosh, I miss my pregnancy hair… I have never had hair so thick and long and shiny and healthy as I did when I was pregnant.  If someone could just bottle and sell the good pregnancy hormones without the pregnancy, that would be great.  Haha.)  My hair growth has ramped up so much that I stopped taking Sulfurzyme several months ago and I never looked back.  I started taking Vital Proteins daily exactly one year ago, and my hair is growing in thicker all over my whole head.  There is a visible difference, but I can also tell because it takes me longer to dry my hair every morning now.  My hairline that had been receding by my part has started to fill in again, and I’m so grateful.  (And yes, I still have a deep recess in my hairline right there, but it’s been that way my whole life.  It had gotten reeeeally bad prior to taking the Vital Proteins, though.)  The serving size for Daily Proteins is 4 TBSP per day, but I only take two, so I’m seeing huge results and I’m not even taking the maximum amount each day.  While I’ve always wanted to try Nutrafol, it’s just too expensive, so I’m grateful that I found these Vital Proteins as they’re much more affordable.  I just mix my two tablespoons in my green smoothie every day, and that’s that.  It’s easy and delicious.  In addition to that, my nails are growing like weeds (which is actually kind of annoying – haha), my toenails have never looked healthier (they’ve always been brittle and damaged since I keep them polished 24/7), and my skin seems to have gotten some of its elasticity back in certain areas (mostly my neck/jaw area is where I’ve noticed the most difference, although that could also be due to my bone structure changing from my braces.)  Regardless, Vital Proteins has a customer in me!!

Needing: To deep clean our house.  I’m embarrassed to admit how long it’s been since I’ve done that.  I, of course, always keep the kitchen immaculate and we always wipe down bathroom countertops and wipe toilets clean and vacuum as needed, but a deep clean?  Well, let’s just say that I haven’t done one of those since before I started seeing my upper cervical chiropractor.  I’ll let y’all do that math.  Cringe.  In my defense, he did tell me in the beginning that I needed to be SUPER careful with my movements to keep my adjustments in place, and deep cleaning requires a whole lot of weird movement, so I just haven’t done it.

Smelling: Cinnamon and pumpkin pie oils in my diffuser.  Young Living started offering a pumpkin pie oil last fall, and y’all, about 5 drops of cinnamon and 2 drops of pumpkin pie oil in my diffuser smells almost identical to my beloved Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candles that I used to burn religiously until I ditched them years ago because they were giving me headaches.

Wearing: Tanks, jean shorts, and these sandals on repeat.  After a very rainy and somewhat mild summer, we finally hit the extreme temps a few weeks ago, and it’s barely let up.  Tanks, jorts, and sandals are my “summer uniform” so that’s basically all I’ve been wearing.  These sandals have been awesome because I can wear them with literally anything as they can be dressed up or down.

Praying: For many things, as always.  For my upper cervical chiropractic care – that it fully heals me once and for all.  While I have been feeling normal 95% of the time, I have had a couple of setbacks recently, I’m thinking from hormone changes, and I’m praying that eventually I will heal fully from all of the neck tension, dizziness, and unsteadiness.  For my cousin who has been battling cancer for so very long with no end in sight.  For someone close to me who has been looking for a job for nearly a year… that this person can find a sustainable job that provides abundantly.  For our administration, that they may learn empathy and compassion for one and all, especially those who don’t look and/or think like them.  That they will start putting humanity first.  That they will uphold the principles upon which our country was founded.  And that others in our administration will continue to stand up to those doing more harm than good.  And as always, I’m thanking God for our many blessings… for our good health, for our safety, and for putting this upper cervical chiropractor in my life since he has been able to help me heal almost fully.

Noticing: How well Jacob and Olivia have adapted to high school and middle school respectively.  Jacob is handling his very heavy course load with ease, he is navigating the hallways as if he’s been there all along, and he’s having fun while doing it.  And Olivia is changing classes like a boss, she has made new friends already, and she is being responsible about keeping up with all of her homework, quizzes, and tests.  Fifth to sixth grade is a big jump because that’s when teachers typically back off a bit from communicating with parents in order to give the students more accountability as they grow.

Knowing: That it’s probably past time to put away Maui’s things.  Her bed and blanket still sit in the same spot in my office where she last lay in them.  Her food bowls are still in the kitchen by the island where they sat for 15 years.  The last of her food and all of her tiny sweaters are still in the cabinet in the kitchen where they’ve been stored her whole life (almost as long as we’ve lived in this house).  It’s been six months since she passed away and I just haven’t been able to bring myself to move any of that stuff.  I know I will have to do it one day, and I know it’s going to be really hard, and I know it’s probably about that time.  I thought time would make it easier, but that has just not been the case.  I miss her so much every single day and I know that this fall and winter is going to be especially lonely without my nightly nap snuggles with her.

Thinking: That I really want to try to stay on top of things this season so I can just focus on being grateful and allowing myself to be happy and revel in my favorite four months of the year.  Last fall and winter was so tough.  Our beloved Maui was slowly fading away (we lost her in February), I was still struggling badly with my neck issues, vertigo, dizziness, and unsteadiness, and therefore, felt like I could barely function much of the time, and I was perpetually behind on LITERALLY EVERYTHING making it really hard to stay in the moment and just enjoy my favorite four months of the year.  I felt like I was drowning this time last year.  This year, I have every reason to hope that this season is much better than last.  And if for some reason it’s not, I pray that I can remember that there is always joy in the midst of sadness/stress/chaos because our joy should primarily come from one source… The One who never changes.

Opening: Packages from Hollister… something I never thought I’d say at age 43.  Hahahaha.  But their Y2K Vault has spoken to me, I answered, and they have delivered… two graphic zipper hoodies and a pair of the comfiest, cutest sweatpants to be exact.  And soon enough, I’ll also be opening a bunch of Taylor Swift packages as I have now ordered three different copies of her new album – one original vinyl, one deluxe CD in the original cover for Olivia, and one deluxe CD with a special cover for me.  I am so PUMPED for October.

Giggling: At so much of the commentary and the memes on Threads these days.  My Threads feed is a perfectly-curated-for-me mix of hilarious memes, Bible verses, Taylor Swift joy, millennial nostalgia, inspiring and encouraging quotes, Dave Matthews Band setlists, and people standing up for justice, the marginalized, and the Constitution.

Happy Monday, y’all!

Happy Birthday to Me… 43 Things for Age 43

Tomorrow is my birthday, y’all!  We are currently on our way home from a spring break trip to Music City (Nashville), and tomorrow I get to share my day with Mama Cass because we are finally celebrating her 96th birthday.  Such an honor!  It should be a fun weekend!

Every year on my birthday I share random facts about myself, and this will be the tenth year I’ve done it!  I’ve shared a total of 342 facts prior to today’s post (assuming my math is correct… math is not my strong suit – LOL), so each year it is a challenge to come up with new stuff.  Hopefully I won’t duplicate anything today, but at this point, all bets are off!

Here we go!

1/ As I mentioned above, math is not my strong suit.  Not sure if I’ve ever mentioned this in any of these posts, but I am terrible at math.

2/ Put math and science together and – forget about it.  It boggles my brain.  Physics?  Not for me, dawg.

3/ I was a solid A/B student my whole life… heavy on the A’s.  But I did get two D’s in my life.  Wanna know what those subjects were?  Physics and Statistics.  Surprise, surprise…

4/ Remember how last year I mentioned that people always confide in me and tell me things that they’re not supposed to / don’t want to be divulging but they just have to get it off of their chest?  Well, I’m still on a roll!  Within the last month alone I’ve learned two new secrets from two different people.  For the record, I am a trustworthy person, and I guess people can sense that so they feel comfortable knowing that it’ll stay locked in my proverbial vault.  They are correct because I am a steel trap.  (But y’all, just please don’t ever tell me anything illegal… I do not want that burden.)

5/ I am still pondering getting that tattoo that I said I’d never get.  Maybe this will be the year?

6/ I don’t eat pizza crust.  Why would you waste your time eating that when you could be eating all the sauce and cheese and pepperoni and good stuff?  As a matter of fact, I don’t need crust at all… just give me a bowl of topppings all warm and melted together!  (There is a really good chance I have mentioned this before, but oh well.)

7/ I drink 30 oz. of water in the 30 minutes that it takes me to get the kids to school and then get back home every morning… and then it takes me the entire rest of the day to drink the other 30-40 oz.

8/ I used to be a Pinterest queen and would scroll constantly looking for inspiration.  Ever since they became publicly traded, I have hated Pinterest, and I have stopped using it altogether except to post my own pins from my blog.

9/ That said, I literally check my Pinterest notifications, like, once a year.  So, if you comment on one of my pins and don’t get a response until 10 months later, don’t mind me.  Lol.

10/ I have an astigmatism in my left eye.

11/ If I see a tag on a piece of clothing that says, “hand wash only” or “dry clean only,” you better believe I’m gonna throw it in the washing machine anyway.

12/ Same goes for glasses and dishes… if it says, “hand wash only,” it’s going in the dishwasher.  #AintNobodyGotTimeToHandwashAnything

13/ I will not step on sidewalk grates in the city.  I will jump over them or walk all the way around them.  I probably look ridiculous when walking the streets in New York City.

14/ I often tell Brian, “If I die…” and then proceed to end the sentence with something that I want to make sure he doesn’t drop the ball on if I leave this world.  “If I die, please don’t forget to wash the kids’ sheets.”  “If I die, please don’t get takeout every night for dinner.”  “If I die, please don’t forget to give Maui fresh water every day.”  He still loves me, though.

15/ I don’t delegate well.  I would rather stress myself out and load myself up with work so I know it gets done properly than take some of the stress off of myself and give it to someone else who may not do it right AKA the way I want it done.

16/ I will not work on a laptop.  I have to have a large monitor, a full-sized keyboard, and a mouse… as a true elder millennial does.  How the heck do kids use those annoying touchpads on laptops?!  I would go insane.

17/ I keep my mouse on a super high speed so I don’t have to move my hand much.

18/ In keeping with the millennial theme, I also believe that there are “big screen items” and “little screen items” meaning that plane tickets and hotel reservations have to be purchased on my actual computer, but it’s okay to purchase something from Amazon or Target on my phone.  Thanks, Jen, for reminding me of this one the other day in our girlfriends group chat.  <3

19/ I refuse to fill out forms for doctor’s offices on my phone.  That is also a “big screen item,” because, again, I need a full-sized keyboard.  IT’S JUST FASTER, Y’ALL.

20/ I am currently on a 7-year Timehop streak.  I have checked my Timehop 2,790 days in a row as I type this.

21/ I can’t stand to be hugged when I’m sweaty.  If I have just come inside from a run in the 95-degree heat, please don’t hug me.  All I can think about is getting sweat all over you and your clothes.

22/ That said, I can go for a run in the 95-degree heat and sweat a ton, and yet my clothes still smell freshly laundered… even my socks.

23/ I have been organizing since I was tiny, and I have always liked a tidy room.  Things not being in their places makes me mentally and physically ill.  Yes, physically.  But this only happens in my own house.  If I come to your house and your house is cluttered, it doesn’t bother me in the least.

24/ I used to look through JC Penney catalogs at the staged kids’ rooms when I was little, and I always longed to make my room look like them… simplified with hardly anything in them.

25/ All that said, I love stuff.  I love pretty things.  I love books.  I love plants.  I have a lot of hobbies.  I love to collect things.  I love things that make me nostalgic.  I love keepsakes.  I love photographs.  I am not a minimalist.  But I am organized with all of my stuff (everything has a place and everything in its place).  I am an organized hoarder.

26/ I still have most of my girlfriends from high school in my phone with their maiden names even though most of them have been married for over a decade.

27/ I tear up every time I see a wreck on the road, and I always say a prayer every time we pass one.

28/ I tear up every single time I hear the opening chords for Love Story by Taylor Swift because it will forever remind me of when Olivia sang it for her voice recital.  I am still so proud of her for doing that.

29/ I have been sleeping with the ceiling fan on high every single night of my life since I was, probably, 10 years old.

30/ I listened to music while falling asleep all through my childhood, teenage, and early adult years, but now I have to have silence.  The Casper the Friendly Ghost soundtrack was my favorite when I was younger… if you’ve never heard it then you’re missing out… the music is beautiful.

31/ I have never had a crepe.

32/ I never read a synopsis about a book before I actually read it.  If someone I know recommends it, I’ll just read it without having a single clue what it’s about.

33/ I taught myself some American Sign Language when I was in middle school.  I can still rattle the alphabet off like it’s nothing.

34/ The end of the chip bag is the best part.  The crumbs have the most flavor.

35/ I’m known to “shut it down” every single time we go to a party or event.  A party?  We’re staying ‘til the end.  A dinner out with my girlfriends?  I’m always one of the last to leave.  That annual ball we attend every year?  One time we asked the band to stay later so we could dance longer.  When I’m in, I’m all in.

36/ When I run, I keep my left hand relaxed, but I clench my right hand as hard as I can.  Why?  I have no idea.  I’ve been making it a point to be mindful of this and unclench the right hand when I realize it, but then five minutes later I realize it’s clenched again.

37/ I can’t stand when people don’t follow the rules.  It makes me anxious.

38/ I worked full-time all through college.  For the first two years I worked at the movie theater, so I would take my classes in the morning and then work at the theater from noon until midnight depending on my shift.  Best time of my life!  So much fun.

39/ Then, for the last three years of college, I worked at a bank and then eventually got my corporate marketing job, so I worked from 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM and then went to school at night.  Those were some exhausting years.

40/ My latest college class (it was a marketing class, so an important one for my major) didn’t get out until 10:15 PM.  Whew.  I’m tired even typing that.

41/ I don’t have a spontaneous bone in my body, but there are certain people / personality types that bring it out in me.  Spontaneous Lindsay is my favorite version of myself.

42/ Travel also brings out the spontaneity in me.  I am the very best version of myself when I am traveling.  I don’t care about an itinerary.  I don’t care where we eat or what we do or what we see.  I am just happy to be there and be away from the daily grind.

43/ And finally, ever heard of “Eldest Daughter Syndrome?”  It’s picked up so much traction on the internet in recent years, and it has made me feel seen.  It definitely explains a lot about me and who I am as an adult…

And that’s it, y’all… I made it to 43!

I hope y’all enjoy your weekend!

Top Ten… Songs of 2024

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Remember when I said I was going to start doing a series of various Top Ten posts and then I did three and never did another one?  Yep, me too.  Haha.  I intended to do this post in January when I was doing all of my 2024 wrap-up posts, but I never got around to it… mostly because it was too hard for me to narrow the post to just ten songs.  I have had several requests from readers to do more music posts, so I’m glad I finally got around to doing it, though… this one is for y’all!

Hi, my name is Lindsay, and music is the most important thing in my life besides the obvious things like God, family, and necessities.  I have loved it since I was tiny.  I listen to it all day while I work, I listen to it in the car, I listen to it when I work out, I listen to it when I cook.  NOTHING makes me happier than music… especially live music.  It makes me feel alive and it allows me to get lost in the present moment like nothing else (which rarely happens for this Type A, planning, scheduling, not-spontaneous girl who always has a million things going on in her brain).  I also LOVEEEE introducing music to fellow music fans and connecting with others that way.  I honestly think that they need to add a sixth love language because music would most definitely be mine.

I love pretty much every genre, and my music collection is incredibly eclectic, so it was verrrry hard for me to narrow down this list.  Keep in mind that some of these songs have not yet been released as singles by the artists… they just happened to be my favorites on the albums that were released last year.  Also, I made sure to only pick one song per artist.  Otherwise, my Top Ten could have easily been just two or three artists.  Lol.  And finally, I listen to some obscure stuff, which means that several of these are not mainstream, so if you’ve never heard some of them, I encourage you to check them out if you want to find some excellent new music and artists.

Working backwards from #10, here we go!

10.  Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter – Yes, yes, I know that this one was very mainstream, and everyone is probably sick of it by now, but it was definitely one of my favorites from 2024… I have to say, I’ve heard it hundreds of times and I’m still not sick of it.  Now that is really saying something!  I also have to say that I was really torn between this one and Bed Chem... I loved that one before she ever released it as a single!

9.  Pretty Bird by Dave Matthews – I have loved this man since I was just 12 years old, and I have seen him solo / with the band in concert 28 times and counting.  Dave released this solo cover (originally done by Hazel Dickens) in 2024, and it is such a gem.  The lyrics make me cry every time I hear it.

8.  Good News by Shaboozey – I absolutely LOVED A Bar Song by Shaboozey, but his song Good News is, by far, his best song yet.  It was released as a single, but didn’t get much radio play (at least not that I heard), and for the life of me, I don’t understand why.  He performed part of it live at The Grammys and it’s just so good, y’all!

7.  Teddy Swims – Some Things I’ll Never Know – I am a HUGE Teddy Swims fan, and I have been listening to him since before he became massively popular, so I actually started listening to this album in 2023 when it came out.  However, the media is considering it a 2024 album because of his hit Lose Control, so I’m going to just go ahead and consider this a 2024 song as well.  This is the first track on his album I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy and it is one of my favorite songs he’s ever done.  This whole album is just fantastic.  We are going to see him in concert in August and I couldn’t be more excited… it’ll be a major bucket list check for sure!

6.  It Is What It Is by Judah and the Lion – Brian found Judah and the Lion randomly many years ago.  I thought their first album was okay, but nothing super impressive in my opinion.  Fast forward to 2024, and I fell in love with an artist named Abe Parker.  I found him on Instagram of all places, but it was love at first listen.  He went on tour last year with Judah & the Lion as he was their opening act, so I told Brian I wanted to see him live.  We ended up staying for Judah & the Lion after Abe Parker’s set (of course), and unbeknownst to us, Judah & the Lion had released a new album called The Process.  They played that album from start to finish that night and, y’all, I have never been to a live show where I knew zero songs and loved it so much.  I swear to y’all, I cried real tears at that concert because it was so good.  I downloaded the album the next day and proceeded to listen to it on repeat for months.  The album is about grief, and it goes through all of the stages – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, and it is just fantastic from start to finish.  It was hard to choose a favorite song from the album as there are several that were vying for a spot on this list in my mind, but It Is What It Is has to take the cake.  The last couple of years have been rough for me because of my vertigo issues and this whole album felt so healing to me, especially this song as it’s about accepting the things that you cannot control.  As someone who has major control issues, it felt like it was written just for me.

5.  What’s Left of Me by Grace VanderWaal – This is another obscure one… I heard it on The Elvis Duran Show because they were talking about how “the little girl who won America’s Got Talent in 2016 was all grown up and had a new single.”  They played it and it was so good that I downloaded it right then and there.  I don’t think it was played on mainstream radio, but it should have been.  I listened to it on repeat for weeks.

4.  I Love You, I’m Sorry by Gracie Abrams – Frankly, I could put this entire album on this list because it’s so, so good.  I started listening to Gracie Abrams right as she was on the precipice of becoming mainstream (I *think* I found her because I’d read that she was opening for Taylor on the Eras Tour but I'm not 100% sure if I'm remembering correctly), and I loved this entire album from the start.  I Love You, I’m Sorry is my favorite song on the album with Us. coming in a close second.  And it ended up being the first song that Olivia learned from start to finish on the guitar, so that makes it even more special.

3. It Is What It Is by Abe Parker – Is it not so weird that two of my favorite songs of 2024 both have the same title?!  What are the odds?!  Anyway, Abe Parker is the artist I told all of you about earlier when I was discussing the song by Judah & the Lion.  I found him through a friend on Instagram last year right as he was releasing this song, and I loved it so much that I went and downloaded all of his music from his entire career (which is quite a bit)!  Again, I found this song when I was suffering terribly from vertigo and couldn’t get answers from any doctor, so it just really spoke to me and made me feel less alone.  I ended up going to see him live and I got to meet him afterward.  He was kind and humble and gracious, and when I told him about how his music helped me feel less alone on my vertigo journey, he told me that his sister had suffered from something similar.  Days later, his sister ended up reaching out to me and telling me her story, and all of the resources she provided for me have been so helpful.  If all of this doesn’t have God written all over it then I don’t know what does!  Music is literally healing.

2.  Hard Fought Hallelujah by Brandon Lake – This song right here will forever be in my top favorite songs of all time.  It’s all about finding joy in God during the midst of even the hardest struggles in life.  It’s raw, powerful, and so very beautiful and I have listened to it a hundred times since it was released, and I still can’t get enough.  I don’t honestly know what else to say about it because my words could never say what the lyrics in this song say, so all I can do is tell you to give it a listen if you haven’t ever heard it.

1.  LOML by Taylor Swift – And the top spot goes to... MY GIRL, TAY!  She released The Tortured Poets Department in 2024, and it is 31 songs of pure brilliance.  Prior to this, I didn’t think she would ever be able to create anything more beautiful than her album, Folklore, (I declared it her magnum opus right after it was released), but friends, TTPD comes in a very close second.  And LOML is a MASTERPIECE from start to finish.  The simplicity of the piano, the way she sings it so quietly, and the lyrics… ohhhh, the lyrics.  This song will absolutely break your heart in two.  I love Taylor Swift, and she has hundreds of songs, but this one?  This one will live in my top three forever.

And just for fun, a few honorable mentions…

MILLION DOLLAR BABY by Tommy Richman – It was so hard not to include this one in my top ten, y’all, because WHAT A BANGER.

Stick Season by Noah Kahan

Boo’d Up by Ella Mai

Beautiful Things by Benson Boone

Stargazing by Myles Smith

Belong Together by Mark Ambor

A Lot More Free by Max McNown

All My Love by Coldplay

Lil’ Boo Thang by Paul Russell (technically I think this one was 2023, too)

To wrap up, I came across the song Gravity by Sarah Bareilles last year.  It played in the background while someone was performing on America's Got Talent and I thought it was new.  I Googled the lyrics to see what the song was called and I downloaded it the next day.  I think I listened to this one a hundred times, too, but I didn’t include it in my top ten because as I was looking it up, I found out that it was released in 2007.  Haha.  I don’t know how I went 18 years without hearing this beautiful song, though… if it had been from 2024 it would have taken a spot in my top ten for sure!  The lyrics are beautiful.

This was fun!!  What were some of your favorite songs from 2024?

Top Ten… Things I Love About Fall

Last year, I said I was going to start doing a series of various top ten posts here on the blog, and then I only wrote two, so it’s about time for another one!  Since we just officially welcomed fall on the calendar (in my head I welcomed it back at the end of August – LOL), I thought it would be fun to share the top ten things I love about fall!

Working backwards from #10, here we go!

10. Cooler Weather – We live in Georgia, and it is HOT during the summer, often long into September and even October.  So, when that first cool, crisp morning hits, there is just nothing like it!  Highs in the 60’s and 70’s sure beat 100 degrees any day!

9.  Fall Foliage – I know this is so cliché, and SUCH a basic thing to love, but y’all, fall foliage has been my favorite since I was little.  I have so many memories of playing in the leaves at the park when I was teeny tiny (and I have the pictures below to prove it!) and also playing in the pine straw, too.  (Because when in Georgia... haha.)  But seeing vibrant colors of yellows and reds and oranges against a bright blue sunny sky?  There’s just nothing like it!  And jumping in a big ol' pile of leaves (or pine straw) as a kid – the BEST.  I've always been a fall girl at heart.

Aaaand some more

8. Seasonal Movies & Music – I’ve always been a huge movie lover, and I have a very long list of comfort movies that I watch as my “happy background noise.”  Christmas movies will always be my favorite, but fall movies are my second favorite.  A few that I love – You’ve Got Mail, Father of the Bride 1 & 2 (not technically set in the fall, but the music gives aaaallll the fall vibes), Stepmom, and so many more.  And we can’t forget the Halloween movies either – Hocus Pocus, Casper, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, etc.  There’s nothing like snuggling up on the couch with my lovies with a bowl of popcorn and a good movie.  And if you've been around here for any amount of time, you know I couldn't live without music.  Music gives me LIFE and it's one of the most important things to me, so I literally have play lists for every single type of mood, event, memory, etc.  So, naturally, I have a fall play list.  It consists mostly of old standards and any kind of acoustic guitar music... it just makes me feel so cozy and happy!  Aaaand, of course, we have our Halloween play list as well, which is the kids' absolute favorite.

7.  Bringing Out My Seasonal Decor – Ooooh, nothing makes me happier than snuggling up on the couch when the house is decorated for fall and Christmas!  I go all out for fall – pumpkins, leaves, fall trinkets, and buffalo check all over the house – and I always have twinkle lights on, especially once the days get shorter.  Eventually, we pull out the skeletons and bats and spiders, too, and I’ve grown to love that decor just as much as the fall decor!

6.  Celebrating Halloween – We have been doing the same thing for Halloween for years, and I love our traditions so much.  It’s one of my favorite days of the whole year!  Most years, the kids are in school on Halloween, so we always do Trunk or Treat at their school that morning.  The high schoolers all decorate their cars in different themes, and they hand out candy to the younger kids.  Then, while the kids are at school, I spend the day prepping for the evening ahead.  That evening, we have our spooky Halloween dinner – mummy dogs, Cheetos Bag of Bones, candy corn fruit skewers, and various other “creepy” foods for dinner, and then the kids get into their costumes.  The grandparents usually join for this (and sometimes the kids’ friends, too), and we walk our neighborhood for a couple of hours collecting candy.  Our neighborhood is the quintessential neighborhood for trick-or-treating as our neighbors go all out, decorating their houses, putting up haunted houses, handing out full-sized candy bars, and some even hand out beer and/or Jello shots for the adults.  Haha.  People actually come from all over the city to trick-or-treat in our neighborhood so it’s always extra festive and PACKED.  After that, we head home, the kids shed their costumes, and then they sort and trade their candy while we end the night with our annual viewing of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.  We have watched that literally every single Halloween night since Jacob was born.

5.  Celebrating Thanksgiving – Thanksgiving is my second favorite holiday (second to Christmas) and I love that entire weekend!  There’s just something about celebrating that holiday and knowing that we’re about to enter the best season of all – Christmas! – that almost makes me like Thanksgiving better than Christmas.  It’s the anticipation, I guess.  Thanksgiving morning, we always make homemade waffles and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade followed by the dog show, and it’s usually a lazy day doing fall puzzles, snuggling on the couch, and coloring or doing festive crafts.  Then, later in the afternoon, I start cooking whatever dish we’re bringing to my family’s celebration (almost always this hot pineapple casserole).  We all get ready and then meet at my aunt and uncle’s house in the early evening, and the majority of my mom’s extended family is there… there are now, like, 45 of us I think??  We spend the whole evening there, and then we still have three full days off to look forward to when we get home that night.  On Friday, we usually celebrate with my father-in-law with takeout from somewhere.  We used to have a different tradition to go to the country club with him on Thanksgiving Day, but we stopped that during Covid, and I miss it!  Then, Saturday morning, we always have our North Pole breakfast with our elf, and then we celebrate Thanksgiving a third time on Saturday afternoon with my MIL and step-FIL.  They always make a massive spread of food, and we stuff ourselves silly, and then head home to watch college football for the rest of the day.  It’s truly one of my favorite weekends of the whole year!

4.  All the Pumpkin Flavored Things – Pumpkin muffins, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin pie Blizzards… I will take it all!  I have loved pumpkin since I was a little girl!!  It’s one of my favorite flavors and one of my favorite scents!

3. Being Cozy – Cozy is one of my favorite words.  I love to be cozy.  Even during the summer, I like to have the air down low so I can be cold in the house and then wrap up in a blanket.  Give me all the sweaters, scarves, boots, fuzzy socks, snuggly blankets, twinkle lights, cozy scents in my diffuser (pumpkin spice and cinnamon!), fires in fireplace, fall puzzles, and anything else that sets a cozy tone.

2.  College Football, Baby!!!! – We are diehard Georgia Bulldogs fans, and we are college football obsessed as any good southerner should be.  ;o)  We literally plan our schedules around college football on Saturdays, and most Saturdays during college football we don’t even leave the house.  We pretty much have college football on from 9 AM (ESPN College GameDay!) until 11 PM when we got to bed on Saturdays.  And some Saturdays, we attend games in person since we have season tickets, and those are the best Saturdays ever!  We love to drive to Athens and tailgate with family and friends, and then cheer on our Dawgs in the stadium!  If you want to know just how diehard we are, you can see this post from a couple of years ago.  I had the most fun putting it together because – aaaallll the throwback photos!

1.  Knowing That Christmas is Right Around the Corner!!!! – It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year, and the anticipation during the fall leading up to the Christmas season is my favorite!  I am positively giddy every year when Christmas music starts on the radio (usually around November 1 here), and I will never tire of doing all the festive Christmas things.  Christmas Eve has been my favorite day of the year for my entire life, and I just don’t think that will ever change.

And that’s my top ten!!
