Five on Friday - Charlie Brown Halloween Vinyl, Sweater Vest, the Best Volume Shampoo, and More

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Happy Friday, y’all!  It has a very busy week (and a heavy one at that), and I’m grateful that we don’t have much going on this weekend.  Tonight, we’ll probably have a family movie night at home, tomorrow will be an all-day college football marathon paired with lots of rest, reading, and takeout (surrounded by our fall décor and the scent of cinnamon and pumpkin spice wafting through the house), and then Sunday will be a family day with our Sunday lunch and dinner with the grandparents.  We truly have the perfect relaxing family weekend on deck!

Here are some favorites from the week to kick off the weekend!

O N E – Pumpkin Shaped Charlie Brown Halloween Vinyl

When Olivia and I were out shopping last weekend, she saw this It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown special edition vinyl, and she said, “Mommy, you need this!”  I was like, yes, yes I do!  Haha.  So, we put it in the cart, and I have been listening to it nonstop since then.  The Charlie Brown Halloween and Christmas soundtracks are both so nostalgic for me, and the Halloween soundtrack in particular is so fun because our family has watched that movie every year on Halloween night since Jacob was born.

I cannot stress how much I love vinyl – the sound is just so special – and it sounds particularly good when you’re listening to something older rather than something new.  We have been listening to this all week, and it’s just the coziest thing cooking in a kitchen that smells like pumpkin spice while drinking a glass of wine and listening to this record.  We will have it on repeat until Halloween!

T W O – Sweater Vest

While Olivia and I were out shopping, she came across this sweater vest, and I was surprised that she wanted it in beige rather than cream or mauve.  But then she told me that the beige gives “all the fall vibes” and I understood immediately why she chose that one!  Haha.  My little girlfriend was looking for a fall transitional piece, and she completely nailed it!  She can wear this even while it’s still hot outside and still look like fall.  ;o)

It truly is the cutest thing, and like I said, it also comes in cream and mauve.  All of the colors are so cute.  The quality is excellent, too, and they fit true-to-size.

T H R E E – New Dove Volume & Fullness Shampoo

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect volume shampoo ever since Dove discontinued the one that I loved a couple of years ago.  I have been using my OG tried and true – Pantene Sheer Volume – in the interim, and while I love that one, it just wasn’t the same as my Dove that I had loved for so long.

Well, apparently, Dove changed up their whole line, and for the first time ever, I saw this new Dove Volume & Fullness Shampoo when we were out shopping, and I couldn’t grab it fast enough!

This shampoo is designed for fine, thin, flat hair (it’s me, hi!) and it’s infused with biotin which helps regenerate hair strength and “refill it with 1 trillion protein strength builders with every wash.”  It protects hair, it repairs hair, and it restores hair to reduce signs of damage while adding maximum volume to hair that is otherwise flat and lackluster, and y’all, I am SO PLEASED with it.  I’ve been using it for nearly two weeks as you’re reading this, and I can honestly say that this shampoo adds more volume and texture than the Pantene.

The one thing I don’t typically love about volume shampoos is that they can make hair look dry and dull, but this new Dove shampoo makes my hair look shiny while also providing volume… that’s not something that usually goes hand in hand.  I usually have to sacrifice one for the other.  But not with this shampoo.  Oh, and did I mention that it smells heavenly?

If you are looking to increase volume without sacrificing shine, this shampoo is amazing.  I’m hoping that Dove keeps this one in the product line forever!

F O U R – Bug Bite Thing + Cortizone-10

We always keep these two things in our medicine cabinet, and boy, did they come in clutch this week.  Ugh.  It’s a long story that I’ll recap in my weekly post next week, but long story short – Olivia was playing outside Monday evening and she fell in the grass, and in the five seconds that she was on the ground, her head went into a fire ant bed, and she ended up with at least 30 fire ant bites all over her body.  It was a nightmare.

Thankfully, we had our Bug Bite Thing and Cortizone-10 in the cabinet, so after she showered all of the ants off, I used the Bug Bite Thing to suck the venom out, and then we covered each of her bites with Cortizone-10 for residual itchiness.

I was really worried that she was going to be in horrible pain or have horrible itching for the rest of the night (I mean THIRTY+ BITES, ugh), but thankfully, she recovered pretty quickly.  She is still covered in bites (ant bites take foreverrrr to go away), but thankfully, she is doing okay aside from some mild itching here and there.  She takes Claritin this time of year for her seasonal allergies, so it also helped that she has that in her system.

We are so grateful that she is okay, though, because getting bitten that many times at once can be extremely dangerous, and it could have been so much worse.  Bottom line, always keep one of these Bug Bite Things in your cabinet just in case.  It works on mosquitoes, bees, wasps, flies, chiggers, sea lice, and more.

F I V E – September Sentiment

I saw this on Instagram on the first day of September, and I thought it was so beautiful.  All of us are holding on to some form of doubt, fear, anxiety, old trauma, past hurts, and regret, and this sentiment is a great reminder to shed all of those things like trees shed their leaves in the fall.  Because you’re never going to grow if you can’t let the bad things go.

Five on Friday - Perfect Flare Jeans, a Taylor Swift Halloween Costume Idea, Vital Proteins Collagen, the New Morning Mercies Devotional for Teens, and More

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Happy Friday, y’all!  This has been a humdinger of a week – we’ve been on the go constantly – and I’m exhausted.  While it would be nice to relax tonight, I’m actually not even caring or thinking about relaxing because Brian and I are heading to Atlanta tonight to see Abe Parker in concert!  I. am. thrilled.  I found his music about six months ago, and it was love at first listen.  All of his music is amazing.  His lyrics are deep and thought-provoking.  And his voice is incredible.  He is actually not the headliner for this concert as he’s opening for Judah & the Lion, but we are going for him!  This may be the first time I’ve ever bought concert tickets just for an opening act.  Haha.

Anyway, let’s get to some favorites from the week!  I have some really great stuff for y’all today!

O N E – Perfect Flare Jeans!

Flare jeans are trending once again, and I am here for it!  While I love my Spanx flare jeans – some of the best jeans I have ever put on! – they are really long, and I can only wear them with heels.  I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair that I can wear with flats, and I have finally found them!  American Eagle offers sizing in short, regular, and tall, so I ordered these in the short version, and they are ah-mazing.  These are the same fabric/fit as my beloved AE shorts (the only shorts I wear now) and they fit like a glove.  They are high-rise, they have the perfect amount of stretch, they’re soft and comfortable, they’re true-to-size, and they hold their shape.  For sizing reference, I am 5’5”, and the short version hits at just the right spot when I wear them with flats.

And while we’re talking about American Eagle jeans, can we just stop and take a moment to swoon over the sheer quantity of options that they offer for jeans?!  They literally have hundreds of styles of jeans from skinny to flare to mom to bootcut to baggy, and every single style is offered in the most massive range of sizes I’ve ever seen (000 – 20 with all options in short, regular, and long + some in extra short).  They must have the most massive inventory of jeans of any company ever.  Haha.

And while I’m talking about jeans, I should probably also mention these flares from Walmart.  They’re only $24, they’re super flattering, and the quality is great.  I posted about these about a month ago, and I think they may be the top selling fashion item I’ve ever posted about.  TONS of you purchased them, and so far, I haven’t seen a single pair returned.  They are still fully stocked in sizes 2-20 and they fit true-to-size.  I can’t recommend these enough… it’s mind-blowing that they’re only $24!

T W O – Halloween Outfit

For the last few years, I’ve worn the same exact thing for Halloween – an oversized jack o lantern sweatshirt and my Spanx faux leather leggings – so this year I decided it was time to change it up.  Since Olivia and I are both majorly in our Taylor Swift Era right now (I mean, I have been in my TS Era for more than a decade if I’m being honest), I thought it would be fun to wear something Swiftie-ish for Halloween, so I bought this tee and these shorts.

The tee has already arrived and I couldn’t love it more!  The shirt is soft, the print on it is great, and the shipping was super-fast, so there’s probably still time to order it and have it arrive before Halloween.  I also just ordered this pair of shorts and this pair of shorts (in the largest size, LOL) to try to wear with it (one option said it wouldn’t deliver until 10/31-11/4 so I ordered the second pair as a backup as it was the only pair that was guaranteed to deliver on time.  Neither has arrived yet, but I’m hoping one of them works, and if not, I’ll just pull out my trusty Spanx faux leather leggings or a pair of black denim shorts if it’s warm.

T H R E E – Vital Proteins Collagen

I started taking this Vital Proteins collagen 10 weeks ago, primarily to add protein to my diet, but also to see if it might be a solution for my hair loss that I’d been experiencing.  Y’all, after just 10 weeks, my hair has stopped shedding nearly as bad (it was shedding at an alarming rate prior to taking it), and I have tons of baby hairs growing in all over!  I had noticed that my hairline had started receding a bit, and since I started taking this collagen, all of the hair has started growing back along my hairline, thank goodness.

I have been consistent with taking it, and I’ve only missed three or four days over the last ten weeks, because I’m sure consistency is key.  The serving size is 4 TBSP per day, but I only take two.

I will say that even though it says that it’s unflavored, I completely disagree – there is definitely a flavor, and unfortunately, the flavor is meaty, which is gross.  Therefore, I am unable to put it in my water or tea as it most definitely adds a scent and a taste that I just can’t get past.  Most of the reviews mention that it is truly flavorless, so maybe I’m in the minority and I’m just sensitive to it, I don’t know, but I can most definitely taste it.  I would think coffee would be strong enough to cover up the taste, but I rarely drink coffee, so there’s no way for me to take it daily that way.

Instead, I have found three ways that I can ingest it without tasting it, so I’m using one of these three methods every day:

-       The method I use to ingest it the most is to put it in my smoothies.  I blend together ice, a handful of blueberries, a handful of spinach, a banana, 1 TBSP of local honey, and 2 TBSP of the collagen, and it is absolutely delicious.  I usually eat this as part of my lunch every day.  The collagen is completely undetectable this way.

-       If I don’t have all of the ingredients to make my smoothie, then I’ll scramble 2 TBSP of the collagen into my eggs and cottage cheese.

-       Or occasionally, I will add 2 TBSP of the collagen to one packet of the Kodiak protein oatmeal, and I can’t detect the flavor in there either.

If you’re experiencing hair loss or if you just want to add some extra protein to your diet, I highly recommend this product as it has made a drastic difference for my hair.

F O U R – Devotional for Teens

I have raved about New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp all year long… it is, by far, the best devotional I’ve ever read.  Well, I just discovered recently that Paul David Tripp adapted this devotional for teens, and I couldn’t buy two copies fast enough!  The kids and I read a daily devotional together every morning (we love the ones by Sarah Young), but now that they’re older, I’d like for them to have something with a little more depth.

I thumbed through it already, and it looks like it is going to be every bit as fantastic as the original.  Right now, the hardcover version is only $8.57 (57% off) which is a fantastic deal considering it’s 416 pages and hard cover.  There is one page for every day in the year, and each page starts with an excerpt from scripture, which I also love.  I cannot wait to gift the kids their copies to use for next year!

F I V E – Target Cookies

We’ve been purchasing these Target cookies for years, and they have FOR SURE been a favorite for the last couple of weeks.  I don’t know what it is about these cookies, but they are the most delicious things!  They’re so simple, but they go perfectly with a cup of hot tea or coffee.  They only sell them at Halloween and Christmas (or at least that’s the only time I’ve ever seen them), so I always buy them by the tub.  I bought a tub at my local Target a week or so ago, and I’ve been enjoying one every now and then with my morning tea.  I’m saving two to give to the kids on Halloween because they love them, too!  For some reason, I can’t find them by the tub online, but you can buy the pumpkin and the bat individually online.  The tub also has two other characters – a ghost and a monster – and they are all just darling.  And SO delicious!  I’m already excited about buying the Christmas tub when it makes its debut this year!

Five on Friday - A Product That Actually Removes Odors, a Great Whitening Toothpaste, and the Best Pillow

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Happy Friday, y’all!  As always, I’m sharing some favorites today… let’s get started!

O N E – Downy Rinse & Refresh

We have some hand towels and a couple of bath towels that have been smelling musty for a while, and I’ve tried everything to revive them – baking soda, extra detergent, vinegar, pre-soaking, etc.  I was just getting ready to toss them and buy some new ones (much as it killed me), when I heard the commercial for this Downy Rinse & Refresh cleaner on the radio.  I’ve heard this commercial a million times – it’s the one with the Backstreet Boys – but for some reason, a couple of weeks ago I actually paid attention to it for the first time ever, and I realized that it claims that this stuff doesn’t just cover up odors, it removes them.

Call me a sucker, but I got B to pick some up from Walmart on his way home from work one evening, and I’ll be darned if this stuff doesn’t work, y’all!  With just one wash in this stuff, the odors were completely removed (even the worst ones!), and they’ve been fresh and clean ever since!

It’s rare for a commercial or ad to reel me in, but this one got me, and I’m so glad it did, because we now have a batch of towels that smell as good as new, and we didn’t have to actually buy new towels!

We bought this “Cool Cotton” scent, and it smells lovely, but there is a scent-free version as well as a lavender version.  The scent is pretty strong while the washing machine is working, but the towels come out smelling fresh and clean, and the scent is mild on the freshly dried fabric.  So, if you’ve been trying to remove odors from any particular items – towels, clothes, etc. give this a try!  It’s safe for all fabrics.   Per usual, Amazon has the best price, so I linked it here.

T W O – Crest 3D White Advanced Toothpaste

I drink at least one cup of hot tea per day, most of the time, two, and a few months ago I noticed some staining on my front teeth right under my braces brackets.  I started paying extra special attention to that area when I would brush, but I couldn’t remove the stains.

I started using this Crest 3D White Advanced Toothpaste, and within a couple of weeks, the stains were gone!  I obviously have to be careful what I use to brush my teeth right now since I have braces, but my orthodontist told me that it was okay to use whitening toothpaste, so I’ll probably continue to use this throughout the rest of my treatment and then afterward, too.  I can’t wait to get these braces off and have my normal smile again!  One more year to go!  At least.  Cringe.

But anyway, if you’re looking for a whitening toothpaste that actually works, this one has been great for me!

T H R E E – Pillow

I have tons of neck, shoulder, and facial tension, so I hunted for a new pillow for years to see if it would help me sleep more comfortably.   I tried multiple pillows only to return them or toss them, until I found this one.  This pillow is designed especially for back and side sleepers, and it cradles your head and neck perfectly.  Each side is a different height, so you have two sides from which to choose (I use the lower side since I’m petite), and y’all, I LOVE THIS PILLOW.

It has been a Godsend, especially since I’ve started to wear my braces rubber bands again.  It’s the only pillow that hasn’t felt like a brick under my face… it truly feels like a cloud.  I’ve been sleeping on it for nearly four months now, and it’s definitely a fave.  I had promised to update y’all once I was able to spend proper time with it, and I’m happy to report that this one is finally the one!  It is pricey, but thankfully, I was able to get it deeply discounted during the Amazon Prime Day sale.

F O U R – New JT Single

I’ve been a huge Justin Timberlake fan since he went solo waaaay back (and an NSYNC fan, too), so when he dropped his new single last week, I was thrilled.  This song is so fantastic, y’all, and I’m loving the OG JT vibes it’s giving.  The whole album comes out in March, and I can’t wait!  Oh, and did I mention that B and I were able to get floor seats to his Atlanta show in June?!  EEK!

F I V E – Benefit Ball Professional Pictures

The professional pictures from the ball we attended a couple of weeks ago are in, and they turned out so cute!  I didn’t take any pictures with my Momma and Daddy with my phone, so I was so happy to get these!  Oh, and I edited them to remove the logo on the step-and-repeat for privacy reasons, so just ignore the weird backgrounds.  ;o)

Five on Friday - The Best Devotional, The Bible Recap, a Fun Card Game, and the Best Product for Zits

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Happy Friday, y’all!  I hope you’ve had a good week!  We’ve had a lot of rain and dreary days this week, but we’re finally out of the frigid temps and back up in the 60’s and 70’s, so I’m a happy girl!

Before we get started on the favorites for the week, I just wanted to take a moment to let y’all know that I’m currently having some blog comment/email issues.  While I’m seeing all of your comments on the blog, unfortunately, the comments aren’t coming to my email inbox as they usually do, which means that I can’t respond to all of you via email like I typically do.  Until the issue is fixed, I’m responding to all comments directly on the blog, but you won’t be notified unless you check the box on the blog to be notified when you add your comment.  So anyway, please know that I’m not ignoring y’all!  I appreciate all of your comments, I’m reading all of them, and I’m responding on the blog for now until the issue is resolved.  So, keep ‘em coming, and hopefully the issue will be resolved soon!

Are y’all ready for some favorites?  Let’s go!

O N E – New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp

I have been doing a daily devotional for years, and this is the one I grabbed for 2024.  Y’all, I have read some great devotionals over the years, but this one?  This one takes the cake.  I don’t think I have ever felt so blessed by the words from a devotional as I have this one.  Paul David Tripp is a master writer, and his words are fresh and new every single day.  I feel like some devotionals can be redundant, but somehow, Paul David Tripp has found a way to make each devotional unique, inspiring, touching, and thoughtful.  This may end up going down in history as my favorite devotional ever.  And apparently, I’m not the only one who thinks that as it has 4.9 / 5 stars on Amazon with over 12,000 reviews.  If you are looking for a new devotional for 2024, look no further than this one.  As a matter of fact, it’s so fantastic, I wouldn’t even worry about being behind, because I guarantee you’ll want to go back and read all of the entries you’ve missed so far this year.  You won’t regret it.

T W O – The Bible Recap

I started The Bible Recap last year to get a jump start on it for 2024 (because I knew it wasn’t realistic for me to do this plan in just one year), and, y’all, this is such a great plan/book.  I have read the Bible here and there my entire life, and I studied Genesis and Exodus in great depth in high school freshman religion class, but I’ve never read the Bible from start to finish in the order that the events occurred in history.  I’ve also never done a Bible study to truly learn and understand the Bible as a whole like this one before either.

First, I read the chapters for the day in my Bible, then I read the two-page spread for the day in my The Bible Recap book, and then I listen to the 6-8 minute Bible Recap video in my Bible app.  All of it has been so informative, and I have learned SO much already.  I am absolutely loving it and I look forward to doing it each day.  The best part is that the days aren’t dated – they’re numbered “Day 1, Day 2,” etc. – so you can start any time.

If you’ve ever wanted a manageable way to read the whole Bible from start to finish, or if you’re just looking to learn more about your Christian faith, this is a fantastic place to start.

T H R E E – Sussed?

On a completely different note, Jacob got this card game for Christmas, and he and Olivia and I finally had the time to play it last week.  There’s minimal setup, it’s easy to understand, and it’s soooo fun to play.  Each round is a great conversation starter, and you learn so much about the people who play with you.  There are actually several different decks, too, with different subjects, so you can change it up from time-to-time.  We have this “Hilarious Everyday Events” deck, and the questions are so fun!  You can play with anywhere between 2-8 players so it’s great for a couple or a big group.  This is one that we’ll be picking up over and over again, I’m sure.

F O U R – Mighty Patch

Where oh where have these been all my life, y’all?  Last year, I had a zit on my forehead for months – like, literal, actual months – and I couldn’t do anything to get it to go away.  It finally disappeared on its own eventually, but it left a scar, so when I had another one pop up late last year with no sign of leaving, I grabbed these Mighty Patches per a recommendation from a friend.

To use, you just stick one of the clear patches over your zit before you go to bed, and while you sleep, it slowly pulls all of the gunk out.  When you wake in the morning, you can see all of the gunk on the pad, and the zit disappears as quickly as it came.  I have had a couple of very difficult zits that took a couple of nights of using the patches, but overall, these work with one use.  I was talking to my brother’s best friend about them, and she described them as sorcery because they’re just so magical.  Haha.  No wonder they have 4.6 / 5 stars with over 138,000 reviews!!

On a side note, I have no idea why at age 41 I have started getting these monster zits that are trying to stay forever, and it sure is frustrating!

F I V E – Old Photos

A couple of weeks ago, my dad showed these pictures to me at Sunday dinner, and I don’t think I had ever seen them before then!  That’s me when I was about Olivia’s age (8-9-ish) sitting in my dad’s office at his old job.  He was the art director for our local newspaper for 34 years, and I always looooved hanging out at his office because I got to draw and paint at his easel.

These pictures were definitely a favorite this week because they brought back such sweet memories!  Also – check out my rockin’ side ponytail.  Hahahaha.  If that doesn’t scream 1989/1990 then I don’t know what does!
