Five on Friday - Girls’ Night, Jacob’s Scholarship, and a New Favorite Top

This week was a little more low-key compared to weeks past and I was able to get a lot of things crossed off the ol’ to-do list!  I can’t believe this, but the kids only have three weeks of school left and then they will be out for the summer, so I’m trying to do ALL. THE. THINGS. before they’re with me 24/7 for ten whole weeks.

Some things I want/need to accomplish:

1.      Get the entire house decluttered and organized.
2.      Get everything prepared for the yard sale.
3.      Get at least 5-10 blog posts done for the summer so I will have more down time with the babies.
4.      Get all of my to-do lists reorganized.
5.      Get my hair highlighted.
6.      Get any doctor check-ups out of the way so I don’t have to bring the kids with me during the summer.
7.      Book beach trip/swim lessons/summer camp/Vacation Bible School for the summer.

How many of those things have I actually accomplished?  I’ll give you a hint.  The number starts with a “Z.”

As in Zero.

#Whoops

I’m on my way to getting some of them done, but goodness, it’s time to kick it into high gear!

But first, some faves from the last couple of weeks!

O N E – Girls’ Night for My Birthday

One of my best friends from high school and I have birthdays 20 days apart, so we often do joint celebrations, and this year was one of those years!  Wednesday last week we all met at our favorite Mexican place for margs and dinner and it was such a fun time!  I even wore my pom-pom top because it was so festive.  ;o)

Jeannine’s husband and two little boys came at the very end of our dinner and brought cake from Dairy Queen for us and it was such a fun night with all of my girls!  It was also the first night that all five of us (plus one extra) were able to get together in probably six months!  Now that we all have kids it seems that every time we plan a get together someone always has to bail at the last minute for one reason or another.  It was so nice to have everyone in the same place at the same time again!  And sadly, we didn’t even take a group picture because we were having too much fun!

T W O – Jacob’s Scholarship

I’ve mentioned several times here on the blog that Jacob (and soon Olivia) attends my alama mater for school.  The school is a private school which is also affiliated with our church, and therefore, we have to pay tuition for them to attend each year.  The school offers several scholarships each year for students to apply for, and this year we decided to apply for one for the first time ever.

The scholarship we applied for was a legacy scholarship which is for students who had a parent/parents who previously attended the school.  We actually have a lot of families at our school who qualify for this because so many of us stick around!  I had to write an essay about my experience at the school and why I want that same experience for our children.  The essay was then reviewed by the scholarship board, and they chose one student to receive the scholarship.

Our essay won, so Jacob received scholarship money to go toward his tuition for the 2018-2019 school year!  As you all know, we just went from two incomes to one late last year, so this couldn’t have come at a better time!

Jacob was presented with his award Thursday last week at the weekly school mass and we are just so proud and excited!  My Momma graduated from the same school so Jacob and Olivia are actually the third generation in our family to attend the school, and that’s a pretty cool thing.

We just adore our church and school family!

T H R E E – New Shoes

One of my girlfriends/old coworkers got these adorable bow flats for me for my birthday and they could not be any cuter, y’all!!  They are comfy, they also come in rose and black, and they’re only… wait for it… $6.97.  I kid you not!  Another amazing Walmart find!  Be sure to size up, though, because they run a little small.

F O U R – New Top

Well, I never thought that I would be blogging this much about fashion finds at Walmart, but y’all, I am!  They have gone and done it again!  Look.  At. This.  Top.

It’s adorable!

You can dress it up for work with dress pants and heels, dress it down with shorts and flats for every day wear, or wear it out for date night with shorts and wedges.  So versatile.

It comes in several colors/patterns and I could not love it more!  Only $12.44 so you scoop up more than one and not feel guilty about it!  ;o)

F I V E – Disney Recaps

Well, I’m sad to say that my Disney recaps are coming to a close next week.  I have had so much fun blogging about our trip because it has allowed me to relive it all, and I’m so thankful for this blog, because it will allow our kids to relive it all anytime they want when they are older.  If you missed any of the posts, they are all below.

I’ll have one more recap next week for our character breakfast, and then I’ll be doing a major post on tips and tricks and advice for traveling to Disney, so be sure to stick around for that as well!

Happy Friday, y’all!

  8. What a huge blessing to receive that scholarship! I didn't know the kids go to your alma mater! I taught at a private school my first year out of college (they took a huge gamble on me!) and I loved it so so so much. I would have taught there forever if we didn't have to move. It made me consider sending my kids to private school for sure. The community was incredible!

  9. Congrats on the scholarship that's great! My older two boys were attending the catholic school that I went to as a kid (and that my mom graduated from) before it closed it's doors for good and we still miss that tight knit community. It is what led us to our homeschooling journey though so I can't complain that much since we just adore our lifestyle. I can't wait to read all about your character breakfast-- your posts have my husband and I talking about a Disney trip for next year!

    1. Oh my goodness, that is so cool that y'all were in the same situation, and what a bummer that it closed. That is just so sad. I don't know what I would do if that happened to us... I don't think I could homeschool, though... I'm not sure I have the patience for it. I truly look up to you homeschooling mommas! Y'all are rock stars!

  15. Gosh your schools finish soooo early! Ours don't 'break up' until mid July! It is lovely to have a legacy like that at school - it is the same for myself, Caspar and Mum too - it is like them are joining your extended family - makes for happy times and a real sense of belonging don't you think? Looks like a lovely school. I love your two blue stripy tops by the way! Love the fact you are so organised for summer, I need to take a leaf from your book! J x
