Five on Friday - Random Things Swirling in My Head

Happy Friday!  I’m off again today to stay home with Jacob since his summer camp is closed for the July 4th holiday.  I don’t even know what to do with myself having another long weekend!  Oh wait, yes I do.  I have a million things to do.

I haven’t had much motivation to blog this week, so I haven’t organized anything for this post.  It is literally going to be a bunch of randomness that pops into my head as I type.  No telling what’s going to come out!  Haha.

O N E – Swimming Lessons

Jacob is on his fourth day of swimming lessons today and things are going so much better than I could have ever expected.  He is already jumping off of the diving board (which is a big fancy rock at his swim instructor’s big fancy private pool) and swimming to the side with a little bit of assistance.  He has been crying a little bit after big traumatic events, but he is recovering very quickly.  When he left yesterday, he and Brian called me at work and when I asked him how it was he said, “I cried a lot but I did everything they asked me to.”  Oh, I just love this boy.  One week down, one to go!

T W O – Partnership with JORD

I’m excited to announce that I am continuing my partnership with JORD and I will be working with them more in the future.  You may remember that I hosted a giveaway a couple of months ago, and I am still head over heels with the watch that I received from them.  So, if you are ever in the market for a watch or you are looking for a unique birthday, anniversary, or Christmas gift, look no further than JORD and Lindsay's Sweet World!

T H R E E – Jacob’s Bedroom Refresh

Things are going very well in Jacob’s bedroom… we got it painted, we got his full-size bed put together, I got the entire room cleaned out and I purged a bunch of stuff, and I have started the decoration process.  The gallery wall is coming along nicely, but there are several things that I still need to tweak… like painting a couple of the frames and filling the frames with art.

I did have one minor mishap, though.  I bought a cheap lamp at Walmart and a can of red spray paint to paint it myself since I couldn’t find a suitable red lamp.  However, when spraying it the night before last, the wind blew and moved the paper that I had wrapped around the cord to keep it protected from the paint and the lamp cord and plug prongs got sprayed with paint.  Since the prongs got sprayed, I’m terrified that it could cause a fire if I plug it in the wall since spray paint is flammable.  Does anyone know if this is true??  I have googled the crap out of it and I can’t seem to find any answers.  I hate to throw out a brand new lamp, but if there’s any remote chance for danger, then I can guarantee you I won’t be risking it.  I’ll be spending another $10 before I dare risk my baby’s safety.

F O U R – Blogging Slump

Does anyone else feel like they’re in a blogging slump?  This whole week I haven’t felt very inspired to post.  I even scrapped my original post idea for this past Thursday because I just didn’t feel like editing the pictures.  I think it’s mostly because I have so much other stuff going on with Jacob’s bedroom makeover, his impending birthday, and the July 4th holiday.  I’ve also noticed that my page views have dropped a bit, so I’m thinking that others are just not blogging/reading blogs as much right now either… maybe because it’s summertime and everyone is out and about and enjoying it?  Who knows.  Anyway, I’m not worried about it.  Blogging is definitely my passion so I know that it’s just a phase.  I won’t be going anywhere and I appreciate all of you who still read daily.  :o)

F I V E – Blogger Exchange

As I mentioned last week, I was part of a blogger exchange group and I recently received my favorite things gifts from the two other girls.  I love them both so much!  It’s like the girls both read my mind.  We will all be posting about it soon and I can’t wait to share with you my favorite things that I gifted!

Well folks, one million other duties call, so that’s a wrap!  Have a great weekend!

  1. I actually have a post next week with some blog post topic & ideas because I seem to be in a slump, too. I think it is just summer. I'm sure once fall rolls around things will pick back up. :) Have a great weekend!

  3. Sweet boy...I love his honesty "I cried a lot, but did what they asked me to do."
Loving how his room is coming along! And I think I would just spend the extra $10...I would not want to risk it!
My pageviews have dropped significantly this summer. But I think it's definitely because people are out and about enjoying summertime and do't read blogs as much. So I'm glad that I have gone down to 3 posts a week versus 5-6. Hope you have a great weekend girl!

  4. Yes, I seem to be in a slump too!! At one point this week I think I even said, why am I even blogging? LOL. I know I want to continue though of course for memory sakes and it's a fun outlet, but I've had ZERO motivation this week.

Yayyyyyy for Jacob swimming!! He sounds just like Brayden, especially with the crying :) All that matters is he is doing it!

I love his room sneak peak!

  6. Congrats on the collaboration with Jord - that's awesome!! I think on top of it being summer - so many bloggers are having babies - which is amazing so that adds to the slowness I think!! Enjoy your long weekend! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  10. I love that room refresh! I actually am coming out of a blogging slump. I took a few months off and have given myself a lot of grace that it's okay to not post when times are busy. Jess at Just Jess

Be motivated and inspired again :)

    1. Thanks, Gina. Yes, I'm sure it's just because it's summer. I have plenty of ideas, so writer's block isn't the problem... I just don't feel like doing the work! Lol.

  12. The slump is real! For sure! I am experiencing it myself and have noticed that lots of my fave bloggers are as well. Some seem to just be blogging their required sponsored posts lately, so I'm thinking that once summer starts winding down and kids are back into school/routines, we will be seeing more blogging going on. I myself am having trouble finding things I feel interested in sharing, and then finding the motivation to share about it, lol!

As for the lamp - is there any way to scrape the paint off the plug in part? It shouldn't hurt at all if it's on the cord a bit, but if you take a razor or something with a fine blade, I bet you could easily get the paint off the metal plug in part!

  13. Oh I'm definitely in a slump and I think it's because it's summer. My evenings and weekends aren't used to blog or take pictures anymore.. I think we'll all get back into it more once Fall is here! Your lamp... maybe try some paint remover, or nail polish remover on the prongs to see if the paint will come off? then wash off any residue of the paint remover with soap and water and let it dry really good... ???

  14. Yay for swim lessons! We are just finishing up our swim lessons today! So happy that she can now float on her own. We did ISR lessons, and have been so happy with it! I think people take off for the summer and are doing their summer things. I wouldn't risk plugging it in...I would try what Jess said, try to get it off, or you could replace the plug itself. that is pretty easy, but if the lamp was only $10 I would just get another, super annoying though!

  15. swimming lessons are a must in our house for safety reasons. She hated it at first and I practically had to drag her but now she loves it and is now on level 7, able to swim without those floaty things and is very comfortable in the water.

  17. I am in a blogging slump too and my page views are down as well. Guess everyone wants to be outside and we aren't as inspired as much. Yay for continuing your partnership with Jord! I can't wait to see what is next. That is a pretty fancy pool and I am so glad that Jacob is enjoying himself even if he cries a bit. He is overcoming his fears. I did the blogger exchange too and my last part is coming tomorrow (amazon messed up I guess). I can't wait to see everyone's reveals! Have a great weekend!

  18. First off, so proud of Jacob at the pool. That pool looks beautiful by the way. Second, I'm excited to see what else you're doing with Jord. I love the watches! I need to get one for Andy someday. Hope the weekend is a great one! I'm always a reader ;)

  19. I'm glad I'm not the only one in a total blogging slump! I just want to be outside and not at my computer!

  20. Yay for Jacob!!!! I'm sooo happy swimming lessons are going well for him and for you. ;) His room is looking great! Our boys have similar rooms. Except I've been working on Henry's room for two years and it's still not done. Ugh! Time! I need tiiiiiime!!! Oh and girl, I tooootally have blogging slumps. Just know though that you have a great group following you and we're not going anywhere! Muhaha!! Okay, it just got creepy. Haha! Anyhoo, I hope you're having a great weekend! Oh and PS....loooove that watch! Congrats on your continued partnership with Jord!!

    1. Haha, I feel your pain!! I feel like I'm never going to finish Jacob's room... we are still looking for a desk for Jacob and until we find that I can't hang what's supposed to go over the desk because I'm worried it will look weird. Sigh.

And I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one in the slump... that seems to be the consensus right now! And thank you, as always, for being a loyal reader. I'm so glad that we "met" and you should know that you'll always have a reader in me as well!

  21. I am so very happy that Jacob is surprising you! I knew he would! Love that gallery shelf too. I have been in blogging slumps before, they are just no fun at all. Hopefully you come out of it soon. I totally agree on the inconsistent reading. I think everyone is off their regular schedules due to summer.
