Weekend Rundown

Well, this weekend sure flew by!  We stayed pretty busy, as always…

Friday night we headed downtown to eat dinner at our favorite brewpub… pizza for everyone and drinks for the adults was just what the doctor ordered after my long hectic week last week.  After dinner we walked to our favorite frozen yogurt place for a little treat, and then it was back home, kids in bed, and B and I watched San Andreas.  Whew, that movie had me on the edge of my seat!  I do love a good disaster movie!

Saturday morning we hung around the house.  B had to mow the front and back yards so he was outside all morning while the kids and I stayed in.  The kids were running wild and acting pretty crazy all morning, so I finally had to wrangle them and channel their energy on something more productive… mani-pedis for Olivia and I and some summer homework for Jacob, which he was not remotely interested in, by the way.  After it took him 30 minutes to write the alphabet twice (once lowercase and once uppercase) we called it quits and I made some sandwiches and cut up some fresh fruit for lunch.

Saturday evening we went to church with my extended family and then to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, just the four of us.  The kids have been doing very well in church lately, by the way.  I mentioned a couple of months ago that we were starting to sit out in the main church instead of the cry room, and they are doing well enough for us to continue sitting out there.  Olivia still hasn’t learned to whisper so when she does slip up and say something it is loud, but she’s been pretty good about keeping quiet.  Jacob typically sits in someone’s lap and a couple of times has gotten close to falling asleep.  I’ll take that over squirming any day, though.  On this particular weekend both kids had to go to the bathroom about halfway through (luckily at the same time) and Olivia also let out a super loud poot toward the end (I die), but other than that they were both very well behaved, so we’ll call it a win (despite the poot).

We stopped at DQ for Blizzards on the way home (we really splurged this weekend!) and then we spent some time on the back porch when we got home because there was a beautiful rainbow over our next door neighbors’ house.  It had rained and the temps had finally cooled off, so it was quite a relief, if only for an evening.

I had to snap a picture of his mean muggin' in the car... he was mad because I turned on Country Girl by Luke Bryan and he wanted to hear Puttin' on the Ritz, his newest obsession (and the weirdest song of all time, in my opinion).  Lol.

After the kids went to bed, B and I started Friday Night Lights.  A lot of people recommended it when I mentioned that we wanted to start binge watching something new.  So far, honestly, after two episodes I’m not that impressed.  It’s a bit slow and I don’t feel very invested in the characters, but I’m really hoping that it picks up.  I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it, so it has to get better, right??

Sunday we got up and went to my aunt and uncle’s house to take the kiddos swimming.  We don’t want Jacob to lose his momentum since his swim lessons are over, so we want to continue taking him as much as we can.  I was worried that he would regress since it was mommy and daddy in the pool with him instead of Mrs. Joni, but he did great again!  We have my cousin Shelby to thank, I think, because she is one of Mrs. Joni’s helpers and she has a lot of experience, so she got in with us and worked with Jacob a lot.

Olivia got a little wild during the end, and at one point she decided to jump in the pool all by herself when no one was looking directly at her.  She had never done that before (normally when she jumps in someone catches her and keeps her above water) but since none of us knew she was about to jump, she went straight under and Shelby grabbed her in a split second.  She came up sputtering, but then smiled a huge smile and didn’t seem the least bit worried about what had just happened.  Surprisingly I wasn’t either.  We were all in the water right there so it wasn’t a huge ordeal anyway.  And on the bright side, at least she’s not afraid of the water… she should enjoy her swim lessons next summer!

We left there just in time to head home, shower, and make it to my in-laws house in time for lunch.  We were stuffed after enjoying their big food spread and we spent a few minutes outside to let the kids run around a bit before heading home for naps (for the kids, not me!).

Sunday evening we went to my other aunt and uncle’s house to have dinner with them because my cousin’s kids are in town from Colorado.  They are roughly the same ages as Jacob and Olivia (the boys are only a couple of months apart, and the girls, just a few) and they always have a great time when they get together.  We dined grilled hamburgers and all the fixins and washed it down with some vino while we watched the kiddos play.  When we walked out, we discovered that we had a flat tire, but B, my dad, and my uncle got right on it and had us riding on outta there on a donut in no time!

It was a full weekend!  Not much got done around the house (much to my dismay) but sometimes you just have to let all of that go and have some fun.  YOLO, right B?  ;o)

  5. Such a nice weekend! Olivia is looking so much like a little lady!! And yeah, I don't get Jacob's song choice either, LOL! I'm glad he still enjoyed swimming and thank goodness you were all near Olivia - Ella did that same thing the other week but Rick was right there, while I love that she has no fear that also scares me that she could potentially do that when no one is around! More helicoptering LOL!!

  7. What a fun weekend! You guys are so lucky that you get to enjoy lots of family time on the weekends, not to mention all the yummy food that people make when you visit! So awesome! Yay for Olivia feeling comfortable in the water! Also, great idea on having Javob write out the alphabet. I'm going to start doing that with Henry. It never occurred to me to have him do that!

  10. That was a busy weekend but I totally agree. Sometimes you just have to let things go a bit.... which is why I am CRAMMING to play catch up this morning and wondering what in the world we will eat for dinner tonight #ooppps! Maybe we will check that show out too. We are currently in a limbo wondering what we should watch.

  12. wow, jam packed weekend!!! That cracked me up about the Putting on the Ritz song because I agree. what is that song even about?? It's so weird. But catchy, so I can't blame Jacob too much. haha! I tried to watch Friday Night Lights once too and couldn't get into it... the characters bothered me a bit.. Lila? is that her name? the girlfriend of the player who gets hurt. She's just a bit too immature and focused only on the boyfriend and I couldn't sympathize with her. I think I made it 4 episodes before I stopped watching. You'll have to let me know if it gets better!

  13. Sounds like a great weekend! Pizza makes everything better, I am convinced. That bowl of fruit looks amazing! There is just something refreshing about fruit in the summer. Great pictures!

  14. Fun weekend! Jacob’s mean muggin’ shot - haha! Friday Night Lights really is SO good. The first season does start out slow and I don’t remember that being the best season. But definitely stick with it! I can’t believe Olivia jumped right in the pool! I’ve been waiting for Mila to do that, but I don’t think she’s brave enough just yet. I’m sure it will happen this summer though!
