Five on Friday - Randoms

Thank you for indulging me yesterday as I got a bunch of stuff off of my chest about the election.  Writing that piece and reading your comments allowed me to get all of my feelings out and make some sense of them, and it also allowed me to gain a little bit of perspective about the whole situation.  That in turn has put my mind (mostly) at ease.  Most of all, thank you for keeping your comments civil even when you didn’t agree with me 100%.  THAT is what we need more of in this world.  :o)

Anyhoo, we are back to sunshine and rainbows and lighthearted stuff for your Friday.  And a particularly good Friday it is, because I am off!!!!  B is also taking off so we can have a date day, and I’m thrilled to be spending some one-on-one time with him.  On deck for the day?  Breakfast out somewhere, a little bit of shopping, lunch, maybe a movie… should be wonderful!

Here are some randoms for you this week…

O N E – Family Pictures I Forgot to Share from Our Mountain Trip

When we were in the mountains a couple of weeks ago, we had taken some family pictures with our fancy camera, and it completely slipped my mind to download them and put them in the original posts from the trip.  Well… here they are!

Olivia thought that the noise the automatic timer made was hilarious, so she is cracking up in the second picture, which cracks me up as well.  If you want to see the recaps from our trip, you can find them here, here, and here.

T W O – A Funny Text from My Momma

Last week, my mom texted a picture of an old-school tape recorder to me.  You know, the kind that you had when you were little that you could put a cassette tape in and record your voice?  She asked me if Olivia might want one for Christmas and for some reason I thought it was hilarious because I had no clue that they even still made those things.  I mean, they use cassette tapes!!  Aaaand apparently they still make those, too.  Who knew?

T H R E E – A Favorite Restaurant Closing

For the last ten years or so, my girlfriends and I or Brian and I have been eating lunch at a local family-owned café every Wednesday.  For years we went there religiously every single Wednesday, but lately life has gotten so hectic that our attendance has dropped off significantly.  This past week, they announced that after 30+ years they are closing, and I am absolutely heartbroken.  Their last day is 11/23, so my girlfriends and Brian and I all went for one last lunch there this past Wednesday to indulge in our favorites… ranch chicken, mashed potatoes and ranch gravy, and mac-n-cheese for me, and an array of other favorites for everyone else – chicken and dumplings, other veggies, and their famous chicken salad.  It’s a sad day knowing that one of my favorite restaurants of all time is shutting down and I wish the owners and their family all the best.

And this picture doesn't make it look very appetizing, but I promise, it's delicious!

F O U R – Fall Family Photo Sneak Peek

Finally, in case you missed it on Instagram on Tuesday, we received our family photos back from our photographer and I am loving every single picture that I see.  Look at these two!

I’ll be dedicating a post just to those a bit later, so more to come on that!

F I V E – Veterans Day

And last but certainly not least, thank you so much to everyone past, present, and future for fighting for this country that we love so much.  There has been a lot of disagreement in our nation this week, but I think we can all agree on one thing – this day is a day to be celebrated and we are all extremely blessed to have these brave men and women who fight for our freedom every single day.

Happy Friday, you guys!  Enjoy your weekend!

  4. That's so sad about the restaurant. I'm glad that you were able to get one last meal in.

    I said it before & I'll say it again, that picture that your photographer took of the kiddos needs to be blown up on a big ole canvas! {You can't even tell that Jacob had black eyes either!}

    1. Awwww thank you, Andrea! You know I think that about my babies, too, but I'm a little biased, of course. ;o) And yes, we're so sad about our cafe closing. It's always rough to see small businesses close their doors.

  15. Love those mountain pics-I am jealous, I just got our family pics back and apparently getting BOTH boys to look at, and let alone smile at, the camera proved to be impossible :-( I totally remember those recorders and am now DYING to get that for Jackson, how fun!!!
That is such a bummer that diner is closing. A place I grew up going to after high school events and such just closed too and it just takes a little piece of you when the doors close!

  16. Such an amazing picture of the two kiddos. I can't even handle the cuteness. Love them. Sorry your favorite spot is closing. I'm always so sad to see good, deserving owners lose a business. Not fun at all. Hope you have the BEST date day and weekend Linds!

  18. The family pictures are adorable. That's hilarious that they still sell that toy. My grandma used to hold on to all the toys my mom and us kids had, and it was one big throwback toy vault. I like buying old antique cameras, and you'd be surprised to learn they still sell film for those cameras.
