The Weekend + Two Birthday Celebrations

This weekend was good for my soul, y’all.  The weather was gorgeous, we got lots of good family time in, and I got lots done around the house.  Fun + productive weekends are always the best kind in my book!

Friday evening our city had lots of St. Patrick’s Day festivities going on downtown, so we headed down with the kiddos right after work.  We started the evening with pizza and vino at one of our favorite places, and then we stepped outside to enjoy the festivities.  There was lots going on… lots of beer stands with green beer, a St. Patrick’s Day 5k race, live music, face painting, and lots of other things.  They had blocked the whole street off, which was nice, so the kids were free to roam and we didn’t have to worry about traffic.

They had turned all of the fountains green, so the kiddos wanted to go check those out first.  We hung out by one of the fountains listening the music for a while and then Olivia wanted to get her face painted.  Jacob (our conservative, typical first child) didn’t want anyone painting anything on his face.  Lol.  I swear, those two could not be any different.

After face-painting, the kids got in line for the balloon lady to make some balloons for them.  They each requested swords.  We decided to make our way down to the new ice cream place that we’ve been frequenting lately, and we all indulged in some yummy dessert.  The ice cream place is at the other end of the street a couple of blocks away from where the band was playing, and down at that other end, some of the local college students were blasting hip hop music on the square and having a dance-off.  Jacob begged and begged to go dance with them, but he wanted B or me to go with him, and we were like HECK NO.  Lol.  I would have needed a couple of green beers before doing that.  Haha.  Poor J didn’t want to dance by himself, but he had fun watching them.

We headed back down to watch the band some more and let the kiddos dance off their ice cream, and then it was time to head home.  B and I put the kiddos to bed and then watched a couple of episodes of Gilmore Girls before calling it a night.

Saturday we awoke to a little bit of rain (which was unexpected) so I started organizing my cookbooks and cleaning out a few of the kitchen cabinets while the kids destroyed my carpet played with Play-Doh.  One thing lead to another as it always does when I start purging, and I ended up spending the afternoon cleaning out my master closet.  I got rid of SO. MUCH. STUFF. and it feels so good!

Saturday evening was church, and then we headed to grab some Chipotle to take to my aunt and uncle’s house.  The whole fam gathered there to celebrate my grandmother’s birthday.  She’s turning 88 today!  We spent the evening eating and drinking and chatting and we had the best time.  I love my extended fam so much.

Sunday morning we watched some cartoons, I finished cleaning out my closet, we did some laundry, and then we headed over to my MIL’s house to celebrate her birthday.  The weather was perfect so we spent the afternoon in their back yard.  I played baseball with my nephew while Jacob and Olivia played in Nana’s garden.  The weather was so beautiful that I didn’t want to leave.

Sunday evening was dinner at my parents’ house and it was the perfect ending to a great weekend.

Unfortunately my allergy issues have been creeping up again… my ears are plugged, my nose is running like a faucet, and there is a ton of pressure in my head again.  Fortunately the nasal congestion seems to be staying at bay, though… must be the Flonase!  As long as that stays away, I think I can put up with the rest.  Definitely didn’t let it ruin my weekend, but if anybody has any remedies for head pressure and stopped up ears, I’m all ears… if I can hear you over the blockage, that is!  ;o)

I hope your Monday is off to a great start!  Enjoy your week!  Mine is only three days this week, so I know I will!  ;o)

  6. What a fun Friday night in your town! That's awesome you live close enough to experience all that stuff. Our downtown is Chicago and it's 30 minutes on a good day. I wish we had a smaller downtown to our town but we really don't. I love Olivia's floral dress, where is that from? I hope your allergies don't get any worse!

    1. Seriously! It really is crazy how bad they are this year. I blame it on the fact that we didn't have a winter! Ha!

  10. Face painting, jeans, and dresses three things my oldest will not wear. I seriously have to all dresses "shirts" in order for her to wear it and even at that it is hit or miss! We went to the circus yesterday and I wanted her to get her face painted and she wanted nothing to do with it. Jeans ha! Yeah ok that aint happening either and I hate it because I love how she looks in jeans.

  17. Linds, I am so jealous of your weather. I'm always so happy during summer and fall here in the Midwest, but Spring is hard. I envy those nights out on the town you guys are having right now. The kids dancing is so sweet. I am impressed Jacob was so brave and wanted to dance. Love Olivia's face paint. You guys are such a sweet, fun family. I really wish we lived closer. I totally think Andy and Brian would get along well too!

  18. Your firstborn sounds just like mine! He is conservative, cautious, reserved (sometimes) and much more quiet than the other one. Little brother is adventurous and up for anything!! Such a fun weekend!

  22. What a fun night of celebrating St Patrick's Day! I love that your city does that! I had intentions of doing some purging/cleaning/organizing this past weekend, but that never happened. Hopefully one day soon I can get to that because holy moly my closet is a hot mess. LOVE the pictures of the kids playing outside. Hope you get some relief from your allergies - so sorry you're dealing with it yet again!
