Five on Friday - Five Things to Put You in a Summer Mood

I have a confession.  Since I’ve been in the work force for so long, summer has long lost its luster and for the last few years since we’ve had kids I’ve found myself pretty much hating it.  For starters, it just gets way too hot here in the south and it’s miserable when you have to get dressed for work and you can’t keep cool every day in a bathing suit or shorts.  Secondly, while working, I never got to partake in any of the summer fun since I was always at an office.  This also meant that our poor kids still had to be up at 6 AM every morning to get to camp so I could be at work on time which also meant that they never got to stay up late and just take it slow the next morning.  They never got to experience the magic of summer because… we were always so rushed.  It was basically the school year all year round.

Well since this will be my first summer at home in 20 years and my first summer ever with my babies, I fully intend to make it GREAT!  I want them to love summer just as much as I did when I was younger.  I want to do traditional summer things like swim and eat popsicles and cool off under the ceiling fan while watching a movie during the middle of the day, and I want them to be able to stay up past their bedtimes, well, just because.  Most of all, I just want to BE.  The school year is always so busy, and I want the kids to finally understand what it means to relax… no bedtimes, no early wake-up calls, and NO RUSHING.

Oh, and I want to get a tan.  Like an actual real, kissed-by-the-sun tan.

With that said, today I’m sharing a few of my favorite things that I love about summer.  Whether you work or not, there is always something you can do to put yourself in that sweet summer mood.

O N E – Anything with Watermelons

I’ve been obsessed with watermelons for as long as I can remember.  I love them.  I love the colors, the taste, and just how darn cute they are.  My BFF and I used to draw them all over our notes to each other that we would pass in class in high school and I’ve loved them ever since.  Nothing says summer like an adorable pink and green watermelon!

How cute is this watermelon door mat?  It would be the cutest summer addition to any home, and I just know it would make me smile every time I walked in the door.

My love for Swell bottles keeps getting stronger and stronger and they have now come out with a new style at Target.  This one covered in watermelons is adorable and it will keep your drinks cold for 24 hours!  Perfect for summer.

Finally, this hat!  Floppy beach hats are all the rage right now and this one just might be my favorite one ever.

T W O – Anything with Pom Poms

Pom poms are a great way to bring summer to your wardrobe… even if you work!  Pom pom tops, pom pom shoes, pom pom jewelry… you just can’t go wrong with a pom pom!

T H R E E – This Candle

This could have actually been included in the first category, but I love it so much, it deserves its own.  Aside from my beloved Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candle for fall and my Champagne Toast candle for New Year’s, the Bath & Body Works Watermelon Lemonade candle is my favorite!  Seriously, it is right on up there with the other two!  It smells SO good and I don’t think I’ve ever smelled a scent more perfect for summer.  If you haven’t ever tried this one, do yourself a favor and grab one… breathing in that fruity and fun scent is an instant mood booster.

F O U R – A Cute Beach Bag

I love a cute beach bag!  I came across these three on Amazon and all are just adorable.  And yes, there’s another watermelon-themed item!  I just help myself.

F I V E – A Cute Pool Float

Finally, cutesy pool floats are very trendy right now, and I rounded up a huge selection of my favorites from Amazon last week.  Just look how adorable these all are!  I mean, a margarita pool float!!  Y’all!  What a time to be alive!

Whether you’re working this summer or not, I hope you get to experience the “sweet” in “sweet summertime” and I hope this post is part of what helps you find it!

Happy weekend, y’all!

  13. I feel the same about summer!! #OfficeProbs... but I'm very grateful I married a teacher, so the boys will get magical summers home with him! It sucks to be left out, but at least they get to stay up late and be lazy.. and my office offers flex hours in the summer so I get to have some afternoons off, which helps. :-) Enjoy every second of this summer girl!!!! You guys are going to have a blast!!!
