Five on Friday - Apple Watch, Immune Support Oils, & Wine Glasses

We have yet another week of quarantine under our belts and we’re entering a four-day weekend!  The kids have today off for Good Friday, and they also have Easter Monday off as well, so we’re hoping to spend lots of time soaking up the beautiful weather God has given us today and observe these most important days on the liturgical calendar.  Today I’m sharing a few things that I’ve been loving this week…

O N E – Apple Watch

I finally got an Apple Watch, y’all, and I could not love it more!!  Brian bought it for me for my birthday, and it has been a welcome distraction from all of the mess going on in the world.  I’ve had some downtime throughout the week to start learning how to use it, and I’m already completely and utterly obsessed.  It’s even better than I had imagined it would be!

I have the Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS, 40 mm), gold aluminum case with pink sport band, and mine is the more affordable version… the one that does not have its own data.  I figure, mine can access data from my phone as long as it’s nearby, so there’s no reason for us to pay an extra monthly fee for my watch to have its own data.  That means that I can now leave my phone anywhere in the house and I can still see/respond to texts, answer phone calls, etc. right from my watch.  So good!  I can also access my camera and photos on my phone from my watch, see the weather, play music, listen to podcasts, and all kinds of other things.

The primary reason I wanted an Apple Watch was to track my fitness – steps, calories burned, movement, exercise, etc. – and, man, it does not disappoint!  Upon set-up, it prompts you to enter all of your stats – age, weight, height, etc. – and then it allows you to set your daily activity parameters for low, moderate, or high.  The watch then sets your goals for the day based on your stats + your parameters.  It displays one ring for each – movement, exercise, and standing time – and your goal for each day is to close all three of your rings.  Once all three rings are closed, you have met your activity goals for the day.

It also has a “tripometer” (as I like to call it) where you can select a specific workout (outdoor walk, indoor walk, outdoor run, indoor run, stair stepper, outdoor cycle, indoor cycle, elliptical, rower, hiking, yoga, swimming, etc.) and then it tracks all of the stats for whichever workout you choose.  After your workout, you can review the total time it took to complete, the distance, calories burned, elevation gain, average heart rate, pace, the map for the route you took, and what the weather was at the time of your workout (if you worked out outside).  SO MUCH DATA.  My gosh, I just love this kind of stuff!!

It has been awesome to see how many steps I take each day, how many flights of stairs I climb, what my heart rate is throughout the day, etc.  I’ve found myself moving around more simply because I want to close all three of my rings every day!  I’m sure this won’t always be the case, but the novelty hasn’t quite worn off just yet.  ;o)

Something fun I learned this week is that you can connect with other friends who have Apple Watches and that enables you to access each other’s activity.  If you’re having a lazy day and you don’t want to work out, it can be so motivating to watch your friends work on closing their rings each day.  It makes me want to get up and move, too!

Anyway, that has consumed a lot of my time this week, so I couldn’t let this post go without mentioning it.  Once I use it for a while longer, I’ll probably dedicate an entire post to it and all of its other amazingness, but for now, I’ll stop here so this post doesn’t turn into a book!

T W O – Thieves Essential Oil for Immune Support & Sanitizing

There has never been a more important time to keep our immune systems strong, so we’ve been using Thieves even more than usual these last few weeks.  Thieves is Young Living’s immune support oil and it’s packed full of goodness – a powerful combination of Cinnamon, Clove, Lemon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary – all of which provide tremendous immune system support.  We’ve been diffusing it to cleanse the air and rolling it down our spines for overall wellness, and I’ve been using the other various Thieves household products to clean the whole house with it.  It is a total powerhouse and it smells so, so good!

The Thieves line is huge, ranging from essential oils to hand soaps to dish soaps to hand sanitizers to household cleaning products, and Young Living just restocked all of the hand sanitizers two days ago!!  If you’re looking to start your own journey to wellness, you can grab a starter kit here, and the Thieves essential oil, cleaner, and hand sanitizer comes right in the kit!

There has literally never been a more important time to seek immune support, so if you’ve been thinking about it, this would be a great time to start.  You can see more info on my page here, and if you sign up with my link this week, I’ll also send some happy mail and goodies your way!

T H R E E – Crate & Barrel Tour Wine Glasses

My friend, Emily, had these wine glasses delivered to my house for my birthday, and I’m just so in love with them.  Crate & Barrel has been my favorite go-to for wine glasses since I got these Camille wine glasses five or six years ago because theirs are just so timeless and well-made.  I saw the new Tour series several months ago and thought they would be a classic addition to our house since we love wine so much.  Y’all know I love BIG wine glasses, so these 24 oz. glasses are perfection.  I’ve used them once this week and I’m already itching to use them again.  Right now they're 20% off with free shipping, so I need to grab some more to complete the set!

F O U R – Jesus Calling

I’ve mentioned this daily devotional on the blog numerous times, but I have to say it again – this devotional is just incredible!  It has been such a wonderful tool to have during this time of uncertainty and it is a constant reminder to me that God is in control.  I know I should just remember that on my own, but sometimes when things are really hard, it’s complicated to keep that at the forefront of my mind, so I’m always thankful for the daily reminder.  I read this devotional every single day and I feel like it speaks directly to me every single day.  Some days, it blows my mind how spot on it is!

F I V E – Good Friday

Today we observe the day that Jesus was crucified and died for our sins, and on Sunday we’ll celebrate His resurrection.  Easter may look different this year than it did last year (picture below from last year), but that sure isn’t going to stop us from celebrating the good news!!!!  I hope you and your families enjoy this most holy weekend together!

Friday Funnies

Maybe the best Lent meme ever!

We're all listening, God!

And I thought last Lent was rough...

Hahahaha.  Perfect.

  1. Oh, I so want an Apple watch someday too! Here in the Netherlands, the ones with their own data aren’t sold, but I don’t think I’d need that either. That is, does it require data to track your activity etc.? I now have a Fitbit Flex 2 for that and you only need to sync it to your phone a few times a day.

I think the devotional seems cool too. I’m a very progressive believer, but I do derive inspiration from the Bible and more conservative devotionals.

  2. We were on the same wavelength for this Friday - wine glasses and a devotional! You are more and more wanting me to get an Apple watch! It sounds like it would be some great extra motivation!

    1. I've heard Fitbits are good, too, so you might be better off with one of those since you don't have an iPhone.

  4. You know how much I love my Apple Watch but I keep forgetting to put it on since we are home so much and I'm not getting "ready".

  5. I feel like my apple watch is a part of me! hahaha I wear it every single day. I also do not have the one with the data plan. I never go anywhere without my phone so I didn't see spending that extra money as well. One thing that I like about it is being able to check your heart rate.
