Fall Home Tour 2019

Every year I say that I won’t be able to top the previous year’s decorations and somehow I always seem to do it anyway.  This year’s decorations are my favorite yet but it has everything to do with the fact that we did a few updates to our home earlier this year so I had a clean slate with which to work.  We have fresh coats of white paint on our kitchen cabinets and our entertainment center to replace the dark brown and black respectively, and it’s incredible how much of a difference it makes in the whole house.

I haven’t had a chance to do an updated living room and kitchen tour since we made all of the changes, so this will be the first look at the newly decorated spaces.  You’ll see it again for my Christmas tour, and then I’ll hopefully have a chance to do the regular tour sometime early next year.

Come on in, y’all!  (And if you're looking for anything in particular that I used, I'll link as much as I can at the end of the post.)

First up is the front porch.  Right now the only thing fall about the front porch is the wreath on the front door and the door mat.  We’re sitting just shy of 100 degrees as I type this which means it’s entirely too hot to put out mums or pumpkins yet… neither would have a chance in this heat!  Hopefully it’ll cool off a bit soon, and then I’ll come back and update this post with all of the porch decorations.  Until then, enjoy the wreath and door mat and picture some beautiful mums and a couple of big, fat pumpkins there.  Ha!  I promise it gets way better inside.  ;o)

Edited on October 3 to add a picture with our two pumpkins...

When you step in the front door, you walk immediately into the foyer, so I have a little welcome pumpkin to greet you.  :o)

The foyer leads straight to the living room where we spend most of our time.  On your left is the newest addition to our living room, the DVD dresser.  You may remember that we had an ugly old bookcase that housed (and exposed) all of our DVDs?  Well, we replaced it with this chest of drawers earlier this year and I love how clean it looks.  I displayed several old photos of Brian’s and my grandparents on top of it and I love how it looks.  I didn’t want to mess with it too much so I just added a couple of pumpkins and it looks like fall perfection.

Our entertainment center was black for the first ten years that we had it and I’m still swooning over how amazing it looks with the white paint.  When it was black all of my décor got lost in the dark abyss of black paint so I never really bothered to decorate the shelves well… instead, I just threw a few things on them and called it a day.  After they were painted, I took so much time to style them to perfection, picking thoughtful and meaningful items, and I love them SO much now.  Because they look so dang good, I was actually inspired to decorate them for fall for the first time ever this year, too.  Pumpkins everywhere!

The kids requested some Halloween elements in the décor this year, so I decided that I would use our focal point in the house to do just that.  I didn’t want to get too crazy with the blood and gore, but I think the bats, ghosts, and creepy trees were just enough to appease the kids without getting too “Halloween” if that makes sense.  It’s still tasteful.  ;o)  After Halloween I’ll just take those down and spread the pumpkins out a little more and then the house will be Thanksgiving ready.  ;o)

The coffee table and the side tables have yet to be refinished, so those are my least favorite things in the living room right now, but I still added some fall touches there as well – a couple of pumpkins and our candy basket.  The Georgia helmet sits there year-round, but it’s also perfect for this time of year because – football!!

Moving into the kitchen...

Our bar cart and chalkboard are ready for fall!  Here’s the bar cart without the lights…

And here it is with the twinkle lights on!  That’s how I prefer it and I leave them on year-round.  :o)

I added a buffalo check placemat with a couple of pumpkins + some fall flowers to the table.

And then I decorated my beloved tiered tray with pumpkins, leaves, buffalo plaid, and polka dots.  I love those polka dot bowls so much.  They are one of my favorite things in the kitchen.  They’re part of my every day décor, but they looked so perfect with the fall décor, so I left them there.

The tray on our kitchen island houses my diffuser and candle.  I don’t burn candles nearly as much as I used to since oils are so much cleaner, but I do still burn my beloved Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candle on occasion.  I can’t give it up completely.  The kids painted some Halloween artwork a couple of weekends ago, so I added their artwork to the island as well (last picture).

By the kitchen sink I traded in my usual pink and white buffalo plaid kitchen towels for black and white polka dots and I added all of the fall hand and dish soaps to my soap tray.  That Mrs. Meyers Acorn Spice soap is AMAZING if you haven’t tried it!

In the corner of the counter I added a buffalo plaid kitchen towel, a couple of pumpkins, and one of my favorite cookbooks to the book stand.

And, of course, I traded out all of my everyday coffee mugs for my fall ones.  Gosh, I love this time of year.

Olivia painted an additional Halloween painting a couple of weekends ago, so it’s displayed proudly on the fridge.

Here’s another look at the downstairs area from the back of the kitchen.

And here’s what it looks like most of the time with all of the lights on.  Brian was sitting on the couch watching the end of the Georgia game.  Hehe.

I added a couple of pumpkins to the guest bathroom downstairs for a festive pop, and I also found this Vampire Blood soap at Bath & Body Works.  I couldn’t resist it because I knew the kids would LOVE it.  They laugh every time they wash their hands with it now.  Once Halloween is over, I’ll just replace it with our favorite Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin soap.

Finally, I wanted to add a couple of fall touches to my office, and I knew I had found just the thing when I found these adorable buffalo plaid pumpkins in the Target Dollar Spot.  Are they not the absolute cutest?!  The yarn details just made them for me.

And that about wraps it up, y’all!  I’ll link as many items as I can below.

It looks so good. I love that you just have little pumpkins spread all over elegantly and I love the mantel piece.
