Currently… May 2022

I did my first “currently” post back in February, and I loved it so much that I thought I’d start doing them once per quarter!  Here’s mine for Q2!

I’m currently…

Making: Aaaallll the plans for summer break.  Summer 2020 was ruined because of Covid and summer 2021 wasn’t much better because we still had Covid worries and Olivia broke her elbow a few days in, so it feels like we haven’t had a normal summer since 2019.  We intend to take full advantage of every second of this long stretch of time of ahead of us… I’m looking forward to doing all the fun things!

Cooking: Now that the kids are out of school for summertime, I’m hoping to start trying some new recipes.  The last couple of months we’ve eaten far too much Chick-Fil-A than I care to admit… I’ve not had much time to cook with all of the kids’ extra-curricular activities in full-force, so now that things are settling down, maybe I can finally start experimenting in the kitchen a bit?

Drinking: Water, hot cinnamon tea, repeat.  And on the weekends, throw in some type of beer/wine/cocktail with dinner.

Eating: Nothing as I type this, but on a typical day, it’s a scrambled egg and hot cinnamon tea for breakfast, avocado toast with an apple and some kind of veggie for lunch, and then some kind of lean protein with a couple more veggies for dinner.  That’s my daily formula during the week!  Then on the weekends we eat out for dinner.

Reading: This month, I finished Just Last Night by Mhairi McFarlane and Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult.  I’m now working my way through Love, Lists, and Fancy Ships by Sarah Grunder Ruiz.

Wanting: The Billy Bookcases to be back in stock at Ikea ASAP so we can take a trip to Atlanta and grab a couple so we can FINALLY get Jacob’s Lego collection organized.  His room is ridiculous right now.  It looks like a hoarder lives in there.  Oh wait, he does.  A Lego hoarder.  ;o)

Looking: Through my wish lists on Amazon to see how I’d like to spend my birthday gift card money.  I have a wish list for clothes, a wish list for books, and a wish list for everything else (home décor and other random stuff that doesn’t fit in either of the other categories), and they’re all a mile long.  It’s always tough to decide what to buy when I do get a gift card.  And yes, it’s been nearly two months since my birthday, and I still haven’t spent my gift cards.  I haven’t had time to shop!

Playing: My summer play list on repeeeeaaaat!  Give us all the upbeat, happy, fun, summery songs!!

Wasting: Queue Dave Matthews Band, “Just waaaasting time.  Wasting time!”  Since the kids just got out of school on Friday, I plan to waste a lot of time this week doing absolutely nothing.  I’m typically not a big time-waster… quite the opposite, actually, but we are all in desperate need of some downtime!

Buying: Everything needed for our beach trip!  It’s right around the corner!  Woo hoooo!

Sewing: I thought for sure I'd never have anything to put for this prompt because I do NOT sew, but I had no choice the week before last because I had to sew some elastic to one of Olivia's dance recital headbands.  And, y'all, I actually did a pretty decent job!

Wishing: That my new Barrington bag would deliver soon!  Brian gifted it to me for Mother’s Day, but I didn’t order it until the week after, so it should be arriving soon!

Loving: How fast and easy it is to knock out blog posts now that I have my new laptop.  I knew my old one was struggling, but I didn’t realize just how badly until I got my new one.  I can now edit pictures three times faster, which is saving me hours each week, and all of the backend stuff is much faster now, too.  I have gained literal hours each week since I made the switch, and I’m seriously kicking myself for waiting as long as I did to get a new one.

Hoping: That Covid cases aren’t about to be on the rise again here.  We’ve only known one person to have it here in the last three months, and numbers have been pretty much non-existent here, but I’m hearing that cases are rising in the state of Georgia again.  Sigh.

Marveling: At how fast this school year went.  It was, by far, the fastest one ever.  I cannot believe that I’m going to have a middle-schooler next year.  And I can’t believe that my last little baby is moving to the big kid hall in the fall.  Why oh why can’t time just slow down a little bit?

Needing: To get all of the kids’ school stuff packed up and put away for the summer.  I hold on to a small sample of their work from each school year and it’s time to get it filed, get their backpacks and lunchboxes washed, and get all of that stuff put away for the next couple of months!  Woo hoooo!

Smelling: Lots of Lemon Myrtle and Vanilla in the diffuser.  It smells exactly like the Limoncello candle from Bath & Body Works, but without all the toxins.

Wearing: My favorite cutoffs on repeat along with lots of tanks and tees because it’s finally summa summa summa break!  Oh, and let’s not forget all the comfy dresses, too!  I have quite the collection from Amazon and I love them all so much.

Praying: For a safe trip to the beach and back.  That everyone stays well.  That Olivia doesn’t break any bones this summer.  I’m telling y’all, I still have PTSD from that day, and because it happened at this exact time last year, I’m having all the flashbacks and it’s been making me feel so yucky.  (And when I say I have PTSD from it, I mean that genuinely… I’m not making light of it.)

Noticing: That we’ve had such a long spring this year, y’all, and it’s been so nice.  Typically, in the south, we go from cold to blazing hot practically overnight, but we’ve had so many pleasant days and chilly nights this spring.  Please can we have this every year?

Knowing: That this summer is going to fly by at lightning speed, and I want to make sure we make the most of it!

Thinking: That I’m just so darn grateful that this year has been much more normal than 2020 and 2021 were.  I know we’re not completely out of the woods yet with the pandemic, but I’m glad things have been able to feel mostly normal again.  I pray it stays that way.

Opening: Lots of books!  Now that the kids are out of school, I’m going to be doing lots of reading!  I’m aiming to finish at least five books this summer.

Giggling: At the movie I have playing in the background as I type this.  Have y’all ever seen The Big Wedding?  It is so dang funny, and it never ceases to make me laugh.  Diane Keaton movies for life, y’all.

And that’s what’s been going on over here lately!  What about y’all?

Happy Monday!

  4. Yea for summer...hope y'all have the best (aka most normal) summer - no broken bones or illness! I need to get back to cooking. The last month has been crazy with so many restaurant meals and treats around the house - mother's day, birthdays, graduation, etc!

  5. I hope you have a wonderful beach trip! We leave for San Diego in a week and a half and I CAN'T wait! I would like to plan more fun things this summer too as I agree the last two summers have just been wonky ones. I feel now that I have teens, what we do for fun during the summer has changed a lot too, so I need to do some brainstorming on that end! I can't wait to see what Barrington tote you got!

Yes, to the fastest school year ever and I must say, I got teary eyed with you mentioning it not only being fast, but hoping that it'll stay normal and things will get easier and easier.
