Character Breakfast Weekend

Our weekend was filled to the brim with fun, but we started it off with a low-key Friday night at home.  I lit a fall candle, poured two glasses of wine, turned on some Michael Buble, and got in my PJs while B went to pick up Carrabba’s to bring back home.  We had a nice family dinner, and when the kids were done they excused themselves and went into another room to play.  They were playing so well together and keeping themselves occupied so B and I got to have a mini date night of sorts, right there in our own house.  It was so nice!  After the kids went to bed, we watched three more episodes of FNL and then we hit the hay.

Saturday morning we got up early and got ready and headed out to the Character Breakfast that our local Junior League hosts every year.  The kids were ecstatic!  Jacob dressed up like Superman and Olivia wore her Anna dress so, of course, I had to snap a few pictures before we left!

When we arrived at the breakfast, we went through a buffet style line to load our plates with goodies – eggs, grits, sausage, breakfast ham, biscuits, and fresh fruit – and then we went to find a table.  After we had been sitting for about five minutes, the characters started coming out in full force and the kids could barely concentrate on eating.  We flew through the rest of our breakfast and then we set out to see who we could meet.

Naturally Olivia wanted to see Anna, Elsa, and Olaf first.  It was all she could talk about the entire time that we were eating.  They were obviously the most coveted characters as they had the entire stage to themselves, and we had to wait in a small line to meet them.  Olivia wasn’t shy at all.  She ran right up to them and gave them hugs, but when I asked her to turn around for a picture, she wouldn’t smile.  Haha.

Once we were done meeting the Frozen gang, we made the rounds… Cinderella and Prince Charming, Captain America and Spiderman, Lego Man, Jake from Jake and the Neverland Pirates, the Paw Patrol puppies, Woody and Buzz, Minnie and Mickey Mouse, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and Winnie the Pooh.  There were also a few beauty queens walking around in their fancy gowns, sashes, and crowns, and Olivia hugged a couple of them and got their autographs.  We also saw a Minion and Princess Tiana!

Once we had made the rounds, the kids wanted to go back and hug their favorites one more time… so back we went to the Frozen gang, followed by Belle, and Captain America and Spiderman.  The kids loved every single second and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jacob that happy in my entire life.  He was cheesing the entire time!  I can’t ever get him to smile for the camera anymore, but at this place, every time he would go up to one of the characters he would give them a huge hug, and then go stand by their side and pose, giving the hugest smile.  It was a hoot!  We may need to hire Spiderman to come to our fall family photo shoot.  ;o)

When the breakfast was over, the kids wanted to take some sausage to go (LOL), so we went back through the buffet and grabbed a couple of sticks for the road.  The breakfast was downtown and our little downtown area is very picturesque, so we had to stop and take a picture on the way back to the car.  See the kids holding up their sausages?  Haha.

I spent the rest of the morning taking and editing some pictures for an upcoming post that will include a giveaway (stay tuned!) and then we watched our Dawgs play at noon.  We won, but boy was it an ugly game!  What should have been an easy win for us turned into quite the struggle and we only won by two points.  Another nail biter.

Saturday evening we went to church and then had dinner at Texas Roadhouse with my parents, and then we headed home, got the kids in the bed, and B and I watched more football.  I sure do love this time of year!

Sunday morning we finished up Jacob’s poster for school… he’s the star student this week!!

After that, we got dressed in our red, white, and blue best.  We will never ever forget that day in September 15 years ago.

We took the kids to Chipotle for lunch, and it was Olivia’s first time there, so I had to document it, of course.  After that, we stopped by Bath & Body Works to pick up some more fall soaps and a few more fall candles since the 3-wick candles are on major sale (go load up!), and then we stopped at Barnes & Noble to let the kids play a bit.  It sure will be nice when the weather cools down so we can start spending more time outside again.

On the way home, we stopped for Blizzards at DQ… pumpkin pie for me, of course!  Then it was home for naps and quiet time.

The evening was spent at my parents’ house for our usual Sunday dinner.  Momma had decorated the house for fall and it was so festive!  Isn't her mantle so lovely?  I may have to steal this idea for next year.  The letters, the leaves, the burlap... and she even strung some twinkle lights through the leaves!  LOVE.

Anyway, she outdid herself this week for dinner... she had cooked roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, peas, corn, and a sugar cream pie from scratch.  It was quite a feast!  I love our Sunday dinners with the fam... there's no other way I would rather end the weekend!

I hope you all enjoy your weeks!  This one is probably going to feel loooong after last week’s short week!
