Five on Friday - Stanley Summer Drop, a Pretty Sundress, Ice Molds for Cocktails, and More

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

We are officially on summer break, y’all, and I’m so excited I can’t even stand it!  Maycember this year wasn’t as brutal as it has been in years past (probably because our kids are getting older, so I didn’t have to plan a single end-of-the-year class party), but it was still so busyyyy.  I’m exhausted, but I’m also feeling rejuvenated just knowing that we have the next 10 weeks (mostly) free!  We are looking forward to lots of lazy time, some pool time, some travel, some touring around our own city, and lots of time to just be together and with friends.

And speaking of friends, we’re kicking off summer break tonight with a poker night at our house!  We’re ordering pizzas (I’m taking the easy way out this time instead of cooking or grilling), I’m tossing a salad, we’re cracking open a big, juicy watermelon, and Brian and I are going to mix up some of our beloved toasted marshmallow Old Fashioneds so we can share the yummy goodness with everyone else.

I am beyond excited that summer is finally here!  And the best part?  Sleeping in every. single. day.  Amen.

Okay, let’s get started on the favorites from the week!  I’m extra excited about these!

O N E – Stanley Summer Drop

Did y’all see the new Stanley tumblers that dropped earlier this week?!  Oh, my word, they are the cutest things!  Stanley went all out for the nation’s impending 250th birthday by creating an entire line to celebrate.  I absolutely love all three designs so much… especially that pink striped one!  All these options are available in different sizes and styles, including a 30 oz. tumbler and a 40 oz. tumbler + a few other size options.

The Stanley summer drop sold out quickly last year, and I wasn’t able to get my hands on the pink and white striped one that I wanted so badly, and I’ve regretted it ever since.  I’ve been watching a few of them on eBay and other secondhand websites, but all of them are selling for more than double their original cost, so I’m sad that I’ll probably never get my hands on one.  But the point of this story is – if you have your eye on one of these new ones, don’t wait too long because they are expected to sell out again.

T W O – A Pretty Dress… and It Has Pockets!

I realized a few days before Jacob’s Confirmation that none of my dresses were ideal for the occasion, so I placed an emergency order for this dress.  It arrived on Confirmation Day, it fits perfectly, and I had just enough time to wash and dry it before the event.  I love this dress, y’all.  The print is beautiful, the cut is flattering, it has pockets!, and it’s crazy comfortable… I can even wear it with a regular bra since the straps are so wide!  While I would have liked it even better if it was cotton, I don’t think that the fabric takes anything away from the dress since it looks so great in person, even up close.  It comes in lots of colors and patterns and it’s the perfect summer staple since you can dress it up or down.

T H R E E – Ice Molds

Speaking of cocktails, I bought these ice molds for Brian last year sometime, and we love them so much that we just bought two more packs!  We use these all the time – for every type of cocktail – and they make every drink look so fancy.  The ice also doesn’t melt quickly at all when they’re in bigger pieces, which is ideal because you can get through an entire cocktail before it gets watered down, making the last sip just as good as the first!

They’re easy to use, the ice is easy to extract (just run them under a little bit of water and then pop them right out), and they elevate every single drink!  Since we’re hosting tonight and making drinks for all, we wanted to grab a few extras so everyone can have the fancy ice cubes.  Oh, and the molds come in lots of fancy designs – bulldogs, hearts, roses, diamonds, and a few more!

F O U R – Once and Again by Rebecca Serle

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle is a book that has stood out to me over the years no matter how many books I read, so I decided to give another one of her books a read last week, and I’m so glad I did.  Although it started out a little slow, Once and Again ended up being a meatier version of a chick lit book and it had a lot of depth, much like In Five Years.  The author’s writing was very rich and poignant, and some of her words about life were so perceptive that I grabbed my phone several different times to snap pictures so I can revisit them when I have more time.  It’s a beautifully written story, and I enjoyed it immensely.  Five stars.  I am adding a few of her other books to my library holds immediately!

From Amazon:

Lauren has spent a lot of her life waiting. She spent her childhood on her surfboard, waiting to catch the perfect wave. She waited a long time for her husband Leo. Now she and Leo are together waiting for those two lines on a pregnancy test that will tell Lauren she’s finally pregnant.

But many women wait for those things. Lauren has also spent her life waiting to use the gift that only the women in her family have: the opportunity, just once, to turn back time and reverse a bad decision, or a moment of catastrophic luck. When Lauren was fifteen, her mother Marcella reversed the car crash that killed Lauren’s father, and ever since then, both Marcella and Lauren have been extra cautious around Dave, and perhaps extra brittle with each other. Even though Dave is alive and healthy, and out on the Malibu waves every day.

Lauren and Leo’s marriage has been rock-steady for the three years they’ve been married, but their fertility journey is starting to wear on both of them. When Leo takes a six-week job in New York, Lauren temporarily moves back to her childhood house. She’ll spend time with her dad, spend time on the water, and try not think about the relationship with her mother she wishes she had. What Lauren doesn’t expect is to run into the love of her youth: fellow surfer Stone, back home for the first time in ten years. Since he left and broke Lauren’s heart. Now Lauren’s thinking about all the choices that have brought her to this moment in her life—and wondering if one of them should be undone.

A wise and luminous novel about mothers and daughters, the complexity of marriage, and the choices we make that come to define our lives, Once and Again is Rebecca Serle at her finest.

F I V E – Flonase

I wonder how many times I’ve talked about this product on the blog?  Dozens, I’m sure.  Well, it’s allergy season, so I’m here with a friendly reminder that you don’t have to suffer through a stuffy nose this spring and summer!  I take this daily, year-round, and I’m never more grateful for it than when the tree and grass pollen starts.

Five on Friday - Quince Jeans Review, AE Tanks, Vibration Plates, and Lymphatic Brushes

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Well, I’ve officially reached the time of year where all motivation has gone out the window, and I’m just as excited for summer break as the kids.  That said, I have no desire (and no time this week) to be sitting at my computer to write, so let’s get this party started and finished so I can get on to all the things!

Here are some favorites from the week!

O N E – Quince Jeans

I had some birthday money left over after one of the items I originally ordered fell through (I ordered something from Etsy, but it was a fake account, so it was a whole thing, but Etsy was wonderful and refunded my money immediately), so I decided to spend it on some wide leg jeans instead.

I’ve been seeing so much about Quince on social media (they sell luxury products without the luxury price tag), and my girlfriends have also given the website their stamp of approval, so I decided to purchase these jeans from there.

I have to say, I am incredibly impressed with the whole transaction from start to finish, y’all!  I ordered two different pairs of jeans because I wasn’t sure which style I would like best.  They arrived just two days after I ordered (shipping was free!) and the jeans are really, really great.  Both pairs are high quality, comfortable, and they have the perfect amount of stretch.  I ended up keeping the Bella Stretch Wide Leg Jeans in Frosted Blue and I love them.

The jeans come in an array of sizes, and you can customize the length (short, regular, tall) for each size.  The jeans are true-to-size, and as far as the length goes, the short length was perfect for me.  I’m 5’5” for reference.

The return process was just as easy as the order process (and it was also FREE!) – I just sealed the pair that I didn’t want in the same shipping package that my jeans arrived in, I attached the prepaid label to the front, and I stuck them in my mailbox with the flag up.  Easy peasy!

And although Quince is known for their denim, they sell so many other different things as well – bedding and linens, home décor, apparel, bags, jewelry, beauty products, and so much other stuff.  One of my friends purchased sheets from there and she said they are incredible.  So, I’ll most definitely be adding Quince to my shopping radar for future purchases.

T W O – AE Tanks

I wanted to find some flowy tanks for summer, so I grabbed a couple of these AE tanks while they were half off, and I love them soooo much.  They’re 100% cotton so they’re comfy and breathable, and they’re soooo cuuuute!  And since the top section is smocked, it’s nice and stretchy, too.  It comes in six different colors, and I’ll be living in them this summer.

T H R E E – Vibration Plate

Brian and the kids gave me a vibration plate for Mother’s Day since I’ve been wanting one, and I ordered it earlier this week.  I’ve had issues with swelling and puffiness my whole life (especially in my feet, ankles, and hands, but also in my abdomen thanks to my c-section 12 years ago), and while turmeric helped tremendously for years, I’ve been having issues with it again recently.

I started researching lymphatic drainage recently, and it turns out that vibration plates help your lymphatic drainage system get moving if it’s stagnant.  When your lymphatic drainage system gets bogged down, it can end up causing swelling and circulation issues, pain, and many other problems, so I’m wondering if that’s the issue that I’ve had my whole life.

Lymphatic drainage assistance is the primary reason that I wanted one, but in addition to that, vibration plates also offer many other benefits – faster muscle building and toning, increased bone density, enhanced circulation, better balance and stability, faster workout recovery, and reduced joint pain/stress.  I’ve seen many people also say that it helps keep their digestive systems regular, too, although, I never really came across any official data about that during my research.

I haven’t had the chance to use my plate yet since it just arrived, but I’ll be sure to report back in a couple of weeks to let y’all know what I think!  When I first started seeing everything on social media about vibration plates, I honestly thought it was just another influencer trend that probably doesn’t work, but after doing lots of research, I found that it actually seems legit.  My upper cervical chiropractor is also a huge believer in supporting the lymphatic drainage system, and he ordered a lymphatic drainage massage for me a few months ago when I was having issues with my withdrawals from tapering from my vertigo medicine, and I swear it made a huge difference in my recovery.  So, I’m already a believer in lymphatic drainage support, and hopefully, this vibration plate won’t let me down… I have high hopes!

F O U R – Lymphatic Brush

Speaking of lymphatic drainage, I mentioned a few weeks ago that I purchased one of these brushes that have also been all over social media, and y’all, I have to say that I freaking love mine SO MUCH.  I have been using it daily for a couple of weeks now, and I can tell that it has made a difference.

For starters, I’ve been having issues with my left ear – I started having pain in front of it recently and I worried I was getting an ear infection, but it didn’t make sense that it was an infection because the inside of my ear didn’t actually hurt… it was just the spot right in front of my ear opening that hurt, and it only hurt to the touch.  Well, it turns out that there’s a lymph node right in front of each ear, and those nodes can get swollen if they’re not draining properly.  After just a few days of using my lymphatic drainage brush, the pain finally went away after weeks of having it.

In addition to that, when I use the brush first thing in morning, it does decrease the puffiness in my face (except my under-eye bags… I’ve had those since I was little, so they’re not going anywhere), but the best part is – IT FEELS SO GOOD.  It’s honestly my favorite part of my morning routine now because it’s so energizing – and calming at the same time – and it just feels so good.  The brush is so soft, and it feels amazing on my sensitive skin.  It doesn’t leave any marks or irritation behind and I am definitely a believer in this little brush!  This will be a part of my morning routine going forward.

(Side note, I have done soooo much research about lymphatic drainage recently, and I found out that there’s a specific way that you must do it or it won’t work as well.  I used this video to learn the proper technique for the face, and this is what I do each morning.  Also, as all of you probably know, I am not a doctor, so I’m only letting you know what works for me.  Always talk to your own doctor before you start any kind of new health regimen.  <3)

F I V E – This Sentiment

From the get-go, I have loved the show Shrinking, and it quickly moved into my top five of best shows of all time.  This sentiment popped up in my social media feed recently and I was really moved because that was the quote that stood out to me the most in this entire last season.

Life is hard, y’all, but all the scars that we wear, physically and metaphorically, are signs of a life lived to the fullest.  You’ll never have a full life if you don’t love hard and take chances.  But loving hard and taking chances sometimes come with consequences.  Loss.  Failure.  Grief.  Disappointment.  While none of that is ideal, I do know I would much rather have those scars than to never live at all.  <3

Five on Friday - Links I Loved This Week

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Happy Friday, y’all!  Today I decided to take a page from Tanya’s book, and I’m sharing some links that I’ve been loving this week.

O N E – Arms Workout

I started doing this 8-minute arms workout about three times a week a couple of years ago, and it slimmed and toned my arms incredibly fast.  Then, in July 2023, I started having issues with vertigo and dizziness, so I had to discontinue most of my workouts except for walking and the occasional run.

After loads and loads of testing this past year, the consensus is that my vertigo/lingering dizziness is cervicogenic (stemming from the neck) due to the drastic change in my jaw and face shape since I started wearing braces coupled with the fact that my neck is where I hold all of my stress and tension.  And since this workout puts additional strain on my neck, I never picked it back up because I was worried it would exacerbate the issue.

Because of this, I’ve barely been working out my arms in over a year, and they had gotten flabby, which I don’t love.  While I’m naturally slender, I’m still flabby if I don’t work out, and I missed having the toned, strong arms that I had in late 2022 and early 2023.

After taking a year-long break from my 8-minute arms workouts, I finally resurrected them a few weeks ago, and I can already see a difference!  This workout doesn’t require any equipment, and it’s only 8-minutes so you can literally squeeze it in while you’re watching TV in the evening.  And it truly gets your arms in shape quickly!

Since some of the movements put additional strain on my neck, I have modified the workout to exclude a couple of them (and then I do more reps of the ones that don’t add strain to my neck), but I’m so glad to be back on track again… and I’m loving that my arms have already slimmed down a bit and have started to tone up again.

I get loads of DMs for this link every time I post on Instagram that I did my “8-minute arms workout” so I thought I’d share it here on the blog!  It’s definitely been a favorite from the last few weeks!

T W O – SharonSaysSo on Instagram

If you’re not already following “Government Sharon” (Sharon McMahon) on Instagram, then you’re seriously missing out!  She has been my guru for all things government and news since 2020.  She is the best human being (she has raised millions of dollars for various charities via her Instagram account), she is funny and entertaining, and she only presents the FACTS when discussing the latest in politics and news.

She has been one of my favorite accounts on Instagram since 2020, and I’ve learned so very much from her these last four years.  I’ve been seeking out her account more often than usual lately since we’re approaching the presidential election, and she has been a true blessing.  I wish she would run for president one day… she is most definitely knowledgeable enough about our government to do so (and she has the credentials aside from actual experience in politics), and I believe she would be darn good at it.  I don’t know a single person who doesn’t adore her.  You can see her Instagram account at the link below:

T H R E E – Target’s Halloween Page

Target has some great stuff for Halloween this year (mirror ball pumpkins and gold skeletons, y’all!!), and Olivia and I did a major deep dive the other day on their website.  They have every single thing you could possibly need for Halloween:

Quality costumes

Festive clothes for kids

Festive clothes for adults

Home décor

Candy

Makeup

Books

Party supplies

You can visit the Halloween landing page below:

Seriously, so much good stuff.  I could browse for hours!

F O U R – My Blog Recipes Page

‘Tis the season to start making all of the seasonal things, so lately I’ve been accessing and loving… my own recipe page on the blog!  Haha.  There are a few recipes that I make frequently during the holiday season, so I will either head to my Recipes page on the blog to access them, or I will Google myself.  Lol.  We’re coming up on the season to make my Bonefish Copycat Winter White Cosmo, and I can never remember all of the ingredients/amounts, so I literally Google myself when I need the recipe.  I should really just print the recipe and put it in my recipe book, I suppose!

But anyway, if you’re looking for some simple weeknight meals, festive charcuterie boards, or ideas for seasonal cocktails and desserts, you can click the link below to see all of my recipes in one place!

F I V E – Hurricane Relief

Hurricane Helene not only wreaked havoc in Florida, but it also caused major damage in Georgia (my home state), South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.  The death toll was at 191 a week ago as I typed this post, but by now, I’m sure it’s much higher as the effort to recover missing people is ongoing.  Places like Asheville, NC were some of the hardest areas hit, and for the longest time, the city was completely inaccessible by land due to all of the roads being completely washed out/destroyed or covered in uprooted trees and debris.  Therefore, supplies had to be flown in for a long time.

There are people who were left with literally nothing, and it will take some of these areas months and even years to recover from the devastation, so today, I wanted to share a few links to donate in case your heart is leading you in that direction.

-       Georgia: The Atlanta Journal Constitution shared this link for a metro Atlanta-based company, Food Security America, and they are raising money to provide food, water, and other supplies to Augusta residents as they were one of the hardest impacted areas in our state:

Georgia Hurricane Relief Effort

-       North Carolina: Congressman Jeff Jackson of North Carolina shared the following link on Instagram last week for how you can donate directly to the North Carolina relief effort:

-       Florida: CBS News shared the following link for The Florida Disaster fund… they are distributing donations to service organizations who are helping with the recovery efforts in Florida:

-       South Carolina: CBS News also shared the following link for the One SC Fund to help with the disaster recovery efforts in South Carolina:

-       Virginia: CBS News also shared the link below for Virginia’s Department of Emergency Management as they are collecting donations for the disaster relief fund for Virginia:

And you can always donate to The Red Cross if you prefer to donate to an organization with which you are familiar.

Five on Friday - Vital Proteins, the Best Backpacks, Men’s Athletic Pants, and Summer Joggers

*This post contains affiliate links.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Happy Friday, y’all!  We survived another week of school – a reeeeally busy one that made it impossible to get half of the things done that I wanted to do – and I couldn’t be more ready for the weekend to have some time to catch up.  Brian and I are heading to Atlanta to see Usher – yes, another concert this week... we already went to one concert this week – 311 in Atlanta Wednesday night.  Haha.  Anyway, Usher will be a new check for my bucket list and I couldn't be more excited about that!  I also couldn't be more exhausted even thinking about another late night, but YOLOOOO as the kids used to say.  Haha.

O N E – Vital Proteins

This can’t technically count as a personal favorite from the week as I haven’t started taking it, but I did pick some of this up at Publix earlier this week to try.  I took it back in 2020 briefly, and I don’t remember why I stopped (I think I just got lazy and forgot about it), so I’m going to give it a try again since I’ve seen and heard so many good things about it.  My main reason for taking it is for added protein, but I’m also excited about the potential benefits for my hair and skin since it contains collagen.  I mentioned recently in my Instagram stories that my hair has started shedding at a much more rapid pace than normal, so I’m hoping that this may be helpful for that, too.  If you use this or have used it in the past, let me know what you think!

T W O – Pottery Barn Backpacks

This is your annual reminder that Pottery Barn backpacks are the GOAT!  I know many of your kids have already gone back to school, so this post may be too late for you, but for those of you who are back-to-school shopping now, get your kid a PB backpack!  They are excellent quality, they are machine-washable, and they hold up extremely well over time.  Olivia just started year three with this exact backpack and it looks just as good this year as it did in year one when we first got it.  These seriously hold up for years.  We have washed this exact backpack in the washing machine countless times and it still looks fantastic, glitter and all!

They come in loads and loads of colors, patterns, and designs including many character designs, and they come in four different sizes so you can find the one that’s right for your little one.  They also have matching lunchboxes, thermoses, and other accessories that you can purchase to go along with them.

Right now Pottery Barn is having a major sale, so it’s a great time to purchase one!

T H R E E – Under Armour Men’s Straight Leg Tech Pants

I’ve mentioned these athletic dress pants on the blog once already, but I wanted to revisit them now that Brian has had the chance to wear them a few times.  These pants look SO sharp, but they’re comfy and cool because they’re made from athletic fabric.  You can dress them way up or dress them down, and they just look great on.  Brian has the khaki version and the grey version, and he loves both of them.  They also come in black and navy.

I wanted to share because Amazon has a couple of colors for 32% off right now which is the lowest price I’ve seen!  They are true-to-size, and your guy will love them!  Early Christmas shopping?

F O U R – Drawstring Joggers

I bought these joggers for summertime because all of my joggers were fleece-lined and way too hot to wear in the house during the summer.  These are lighter and cooler for summertime, they have a little bit of stretch, they are high-waisted, and they are SO comfy.  They're also flattering in the booty area and the slits in the ankles are so fun!  They come in a few different colors, and I just love them!  They’ll be the perfect transition joggers for fall.

F I V E – Old Pictures of Jacob and Olivia

A couple of weeks ago, these pictures of the kids popped up in my Facebook memories and they are just so sweet that I had to share them.  My mom took them circa 2016 if I had to guess, as Olivia appears to be around two-ish, which would make Jacob five-ish.  I remember having those tiny babies like it was yesterday and now they’re 13 and 10.  Goodness gracious, where does the time go?
