Five on Friday - Happy Mail, House Project, & Jacob's 7 Year Check-Up

Happy Friday, y’all!  It’s been a productive week!  I’ve crossed a lot of things off of the to-do list this week – purchased birthday gifts for all of the birthdays this month (5 total), gotten paperwork filled out for various things, run lots of errands, and accomplished many other time-sensitive tasks.  I was also asked to be on the Fall Carnival Committee at the kids’ school and I attended the first meeting this week and got lots of good information to get started on my tasks for that.

I went into this week thinking it was going to be fairly slow since the grocery shopping and laundry were all done last week, but my oh my how wrong I was!  I think I’ve told Brian almost every single day since the kids went back to school that I have NO CLUE how I ever had time to work 40 hours per week at a corporate job while also holding down my jobs as a wife and mother.  Whew.  This season of life is busy.

Now for some favorites!

O N E – New Planner

Last year around this time I ordered my very first Plum Planner to use for 2018.  I have loved many things about this planner, but I realized early on this year that there is just not enough space for each day to meet my needs.  Because there hasn’t been enough space, I’ve been using my planner for appointments, meetings, and reminders, but I’ve had to write my to-do lists for each day on a notepad which drives me crazy.  I know, #FirstWorldProbs, but if I’m going to spend lots of money on a planner then it should be exactly what I need.

Enter the Emily Ley Simplified planner.

I’ve been a huge fan of Emily’s and have been following along with her for several years because she’s just so darn cute and she fills my Instagram feed with positivity and light.  Her quest to simplify her life to make room for the more important things (family, friends, hobbies, etc.) has really intrigued me all these years, so I decided that I would try a Simplified Planner for 2019.  My goodies all arrived in the mail this week and I could not be more excited!  Can it please just go ahead and be 2019 so I can dig into this baby?!  Haha.

I’m working on getting it set up for 2019 during the next few weeks and then I’ll probably do a full blog post about it.  Until then, I’m just going to sit and stare at it because IT’S SO PRETTY!

T W O – Surprise Happy Mail

Emily at A Little Bit of Emily and I have become close this past year and we often chat back and forth via text during the day.  She sent a little surprise to me in the mail earlier this week and I thought it was just the sweetest thing!  I LOVE fuzzy socks like these… I wear them every single day during the fall and winter.  I also obviously love a good notepad, too, since I’m a master list-maker.  And the fact that they’re both fall themed?  Well, not much else makes my heart happier!  Thank yoooou, Emily!  You made my day!

T H R E E – New Pictures

I shared this on my Instagram stories a couple of weeks ago but I never shared it on the blog.  I recently developed new pictures for several of the frames around our house, and that simple little update has been so refreshing!

We have five 8x10 frames hanging down the little wall between Jacob’s bedroom and the kids’ bathroom, and I have always used that wall as a family portrait gallery of sorts.  There’s one frame for each person in our family (including Maui) and I have always filled them with black and white pictures.  This time I decided to develop some color photos for the frames and I love this wall even more now!

F O U R – Millennial Apartment Bingo

This was making the rounds on Instagram a couple of weeks ago as well, and it made me laugh.  I’m not even technically a Millennial (I’m a Xennial – the microgeneration between Generation X and Millennials) but apparently I decorate like one.  I checked off half of the boxes, and of the boxes that are unchecked, at least three of them are on my wish list.

How many boxes can you check off?

F I V E – Jacob's Seven Year Check-Up

Jacob had his seven year well visit this week and he's as healthy as a horse!  Tiny, but healthy.  Here are the stats:

Weight - 41 lbs. (4th percentile)
Height - 44 inches (3-5th percentile)
Blood pressure - 85 over 54
Oxygen - 100%

The doc isn't concerned about him being tiny because his BMI is perfect, meaning his weight and height are proportionate.  He'll grow eventually!

Before I go, on Wednesday I talked about fashion for my favorite season – fall!  The post is all about leggings and sweaters and scarves and boots… bring on the layers!  You can see the post here.

Finally, thanks to everyone who has texted or emailed to check on us since the state of Georgia declared a state of emergency due to impending Hurricane Florence.  Fortunately we are not in its direct path and at the very most we should just have some rain and breezy conditions.  My sister-in-law and brother-in-law, however, live in Myrtle Beach and my uncle has a house in Hilton Head, so we are on pins and needles and praying for the best outcome possible for everyone.  My sister-in-law and nephew evacuated here to our hometown, but my brother-in-law stayed behind to keep an eye on things, so please keep him in your prayers.  And to everyone in its path, you are in my prayers.  Stay safe!

And one last thing, I just want to remind everyone about our Girl Chat link-up next Thursday.  We are sharing our fall bucket lists and we would love for you to join us!

  3. Awww thanks for the shout out! Fun mail truly is the best!! :) You were BUSY this week - it all sounds good. And I am so curious to see what you think about the Emily Ley planner! I had one a year or two ago and for whatever reason (of course now I can't remember) I didn't feel like it was a good fit for me...hopefully that is NOT the case for you!

  7. Love the package from Emily and the planner looks so pretty! I think I'm an xennial too but I don't have many of those decor things. I do have a rainbow bookshelf if that means organizing your books by color in rainbow order! Just one shelf is like that for me. The photos look great! Glad you're out of the way of the hurricane! Hope your family will be ok!

I was thinking about you but realized that I didn't think you were in the path. Praying for your family though! I am looking for a new planner...might have to try that one out. Happy weekend friend!

  14. Emily is the best!! I also love love love the switcheroo of the black and white pics for the colored pics. I would have never thought that kind of switch would make such a drastic different on the look of that space, but it totally did!

  15. I am so excited to see what you think of the SIMPLIFIED planner. I love a weekly but hers isn't spiral bound which I really like so it can lay flat and open on my desk ;).
