Know Better, Do Better

I had a completely different post scheduled for today, but with all that’s going on in the world right now, I figured the world didn’t need another mixed drink recipe right now… what it needs is a wake-up call.

I usually try to keep things light and happy here on the blog because I like for it to be a space for you to come to when you need a little reprieve from all of the heavy issues in the world.  However, there are some issues that shouldn’t be ignored, and this is one of them that needs to be discussed – and FIXED!! – in this broken world in which we’re living.

Racism.

I’m not even going to pretend I know much about it firsthand, because I don’t.  And that’s why this post has been so hard to write.  I literally don’t have the words.  I feel like there are so many things that should be said and so many things that I personally want to say, but I can’t seem to find the right words that I think will actually make a difference because I have not walked in those shoes.

But what I do know is this…

I was raised in a household where we were taught that God created everyone equally, and He wants all of us to love one another just as He loves each of us.  No matter what skin color they may have.

NO ONE should have to be afraid to go jogging because of the color of their skin.

NO ONE should have to live in constant fear because of the color of their skin.

NO ONE should ever feel less special or unworthy because of the color of their skin.

And ABSOLUTELY NO ONE should ever be killed because of it.

We. Have. To. Do. Better.

Diversity is important!  It enriches our lives and it literally makes the world go ‘round.  It should not only be respected and tolerated, but embraced and celebrated.

Without it, we’d all be the exact same, and well, that would just be boring.

I’m listening, learning, praying, and standing with all people of color not only today, but every day, and I vow to do even better to raise my kids to embrace diversity, too.

I need to do better.  You need to do better.  We all need to do better.

And not just today.  Every single day.

Now I'm just going to leave this right here for a few days and I'll be back next week with the lighter content that you usually come here to see.

Love to all!

  1. So much yes! I don't have the right words either, I'm not sure any of us do, but it's important to speak out about the injustice and commit to raising our kids to love one another <3

  2. This is great! Well said. We need to spread love and embrace what makes us all different, but just as beautiful. We are all human.
