Five on Friday - Mrs. Meyers Watermelon, At-Home Covid Tests, and More

Hey, y’all, happy Friday!  I hope you all had a good week.  Ours was pretty good, despite the fact that we had one day of virtual learning thrown in because of Tropical Storm Fred.  The storm ended up being mild here – just a bunch of rain and some wind – but our power was knocked out for 6+ hours and we had to throw out most of the stuff in our fridge as well as some from the freezer.  I guess if that’s the worst that happened, then we’re doing just fine.

Anyway, let’s get into some of my favorites from the week.

O N E – Mrs. Meyers Watermelon

Joanne at Slices of Life shared this Mrs. Meyers Watermelon scented foaming soap a couple of weeks ago and I was so excited I couldn’t even stand it.  I love Mrs. Meyers products and have converted most of our hand soaps from Bath & Body Works to these (and also Young Living Thieves!!), and somehow, I had no clue that this watermelon scent existed.

Watermelon has been my very favorite fruity flavor since I was tiny, and I will always choose it over everything else if it’s available.  Watermelon scented stuff is pretty rare, but when I do find it, I always love it, too.  When Joanne shared those, I couldn’t buy them fast enough.  Sure enough, they don’t disappoint, and they’re now my favorite Mrs. Meyers spring/summer scent!

I know summer is nearly over and soon enough everyone will be focusing on fall/winter scents, but these would be great to grab now for spring since they’re on sale.  Now I’m just counting down the days until I can pull out my all-time favorite Mrs. Meyers scent – Peppermiiiint!!!!

T W O – At-Home Covid Tests

Yes, at-home Covid tests are probably a weird item to call a favorite, but we’ll call them a favorite because having them on hand gives me peace of mind after what we went through trying to get Olivia tested last weekend when she had her stuffy nose.  It was a nightmare.  Positive Covid cases are soaring in our area, and despite the fact that we have tons of places in town doing the Covid testing, it’s impossible to get same-day appointments right now because everyone is booked for days.

Since the kids are back in school, they are obviously at a much higher risk of contracting Covid than they were this summer when they were at home all the time, and therefore, they are also at a much higher risk of spreading it to someone else if they do get it.  It’s inevitable that they’re going to get sick at some point during the school year – a stuffy nose, a cough, a fever, etc. – so having these tests on hand will allow us to avoid acute care places and get results right here at home.

These come in packs of two and they retail for just under $20.  Each test is a simple nasal swab that you do right at home, and you get the results in just 15 minutes.  It’s kind of like a pregnancy test, but for Covid.  Weird times, y’all.  Weird times.

Anyway, they are super hard to find right now, but Amazon is supposed to have them back in stock soon here and Walmart.com keeps replenishing constantly.  Just thought I’d share in case any of you are Enneagram Sixes like me and you need to feel prepared at all times!  Haha.

T H R E E – Groomed Maui

Our sweet little girl was groomed this week, and she is looking so fresh and trim!  She snuggles with me every single night, so I always love it when she gets groomed because she smells so good and her coat is so soft!

F O U R – Maui’s Internal Clock

Speaking of Maui, most days she keeps me company in my office while I work, and she somehow always knows when it’s almost time for me to head downstairs to start cooking dinner.  Every summer weekday and every Saturday and Sunday, she climbs out of bed around 4:30 and lays at my feet because she knows I’m about to go downstairs.  It’s like she has some kind of internal clock!

F I V E – Sweet Messages for the Kiddos

This week, a parent of one of Jacob’s classmates sent me the sweetest email to let me know that her daughter is going to miss having Jacob in the same class this year because he was such a good friend to her all last year when she was the new kid in class.  I knew he had spent time with her last year, but I didn’t realize just what an impact his kindness had made, and I’m sure he didn’t either.  It was so thoughtful of her mom to reach out and let me know, and it was definitely one of my favorite things that happened this week.

I also received an email from Olivia’s teacher this week, and she just wanted to let me know how sweet and well-behaved Olivia is.  <3  I’m just so proud of our girl and I love how much she loves school.  I will not be surprised if she grows up to be a teacher… that is, if she doesn’t actually grow up to be Elsa at Disney World… that’s what she’s aspiring to be right now.  ;o)

  1. Anytime I see anything watermelon, I think of you! I bet that soap is awesome. I had no idea they had foaming soap - I am going to have to look for that! I can see why those emails made your day - so special. And goodness, that last funny. Took me a minute to read the teenage speak, haha!

  2. Those messages you got are so sweet and Maui looks so cute! OK, I have no idea the at home Covid test were ready to purchase over-the-counter and I had no idea that Mrs. Meyers soap came in the foaming variety, that is my favorite and I too have gotten away from Bath and body. I will look for that. Have a great weekend!

  4. it's always so good to get sweet feedback about our kids! :)

It's great you have the at home covid tests - we have to do the traditional testing at a testing centre but unless there's a case that's got out of quarantine it's really quick - in and out in 15 minutes last time I went and got my results a couple hours later. Thankfully we have 0 covid cases most of the time here in Brisbane so we are lucky, tests are easily available and fast and free. :)

Hope you are having a lovely weekend :)

    1. That is wonderful that your Covid cases are so low there. I wish we were in the same situation, but unfortunately, things are pretty grim here right now, and that's why it's so hard to get in anywhere to test. So many people are needing to be tested. I'm praying every day that we can get through this soon.

      I hope you're having a wonderful week!
