Our Week - The One with Date Night, the Daddy Daughter Dance, and One More Birthday Celebration for Brian and Olivia

Last week was relatively quiet aside from the Daddy Daughter Dance, so I got a ton accomplished for the blog, and B and I were even able to sneak out for a mid-week date night.  Let’s get to the recap!

Monday, February 27

We had a lot of fun celebrating our girl on her birthday weekend, so the blog definitely got kicked to the curb for a lot of the previous week which meant that Monday it was time to get focused.  After a grocery trip to Walmart, I ended up working on blog posts all morning long, prepping a few new ones, working on some that I’d already started, and wrapping up a couple as well.  It was a hugely productive morning, and it felt great to get back ahead of the game!

The rest of the afternoon was spent doing some laundry, sorting some things to donate, and getting caught up on some other odds and ends.  After school, we dropped Olivia at dance and headed to piano lessons for Jacob.  Then after that, Jacob and I had to run to Publix next-door to get a few things that Walmart didn’t have earlier in the day.

Then it was home to cook dinner – sausage, peppers, and onions tacos, lime tortilla chips, and fruit – and then after dinner, I finished putting away groceries and getting organized for Tuesday.  Once homework was done, the kids headed upstairs to get ready for bed, and I did a quick stair stepper workout before joining B and the kids for an episode of Floor is Lava.

After the kiddos went to bed, B and I finished the episode of The Last of Us that we’d started Sunday evening, and then we watched some of American Idol before calling it a night.

Tuesday, February 28

Tuesday morning, I dropped the kids at school and picked up all of the daddy/daughter dance supplies that had delivered at the school office for me, and then I headed home to work all morning and afternoon.

When the kiddos got out of school, we headed home, and they got started on homework while I got in a 2.5 mile walk/jog.  It was 81 degrees and sunny on Tuesday, so it was hot running at 3:30 in the afternoon, but I got it done anyway.  I just can’t believe the warm streak that we had in February this year.  We usually have a few warm days here and there, but the last two weeks of February were warm every single day, and hot a couple of days, too.  We’ve all been wearing shorts and tanks and sandals for weeks.  Now it’ll probably snow in March.  Haha.

After my walk/jog, Jacob and I got Olivia to dance, and then he and I swung by CVS to pick up a prescription before heading home.  When we got home, I wrapped up a couple of things that needed to be done while he finished homework, and then I cooked beef and parmesan pasta with zucchini and garlic cheesy bread for dinner.  We had a half bottle of wine that had been opened previously, so B and I also indulged in a glass of wine.

After dinner, the kiddos got showered and ready for bed, and then I got showered, too, and then B and I ended the night with an episode of A Million Little Things before heading to bed early so I could start my new book.

Wednesday, March 1

Wednesday morning, I dropped the kids at school and then worked all day at home.  I had to film an IG Reel for an Amazon top, and that’s always time consuming since I have to change clothes so many times.

After that was done, I spent the rest of the afternoon organizing some items to list on Poshmark and getting them photographed and listed.  Then it was on to the car line to read until the kids got out of school.

After school, the kids and I headed home, and they got homework done and played outside.  B and I had a date night scheduled, so when he got home from work, we dropped the kids off at my father-in-law’s house for the evening.

Brian picked the restaurant since this (kind of) served as a late birthday dinner outing for him, and he chose our favorite local Italian restaurant, which is super convenient for date night because it’s, like 6-7 minutes from our house (and my father-in-law’s house, too, since he lives close to us).

We were able to drop the kids off at my FIL’s at 5:15, and we were back to pick them up before 6:45 since the transit time was so short.  And we were able to be leisurely and not rush at all through dinner.

We started dinner with drinks – I opted for the Limoncello Lemon Drop and B opted for the Paloma Margarita – and then I had their chicken alfredo (because it’s the best in town) and B tried their tortellini.  The restaurant was practically empty since we were there so early, so service was quick, and the food was delicious as always.

After dinner, we grabbed the kids from my FIL’s house, and we had them home in time to shower and watch an episode of Floor is Lava before sending them to bed.  While they showered, I squeezed in a quick arms workout, but I took it easy since I’d just eaten a huge meal.

After the kiddos were in bed, B and I finished the episode of American Idol for the week, and then we headed to bed, too.

Thursday, March 2

Thursday morning, I dropped the kids at school and then headed home to work all day again.  As I’m typing this, I have all blog posts done for the rest of the current week (on March 2), all but one of the posts done for next week (or this week as you’re reading this), one post done for April, two done for May, and my end-of-the-year post is just rolling right along as well.  I also have several more posts in various stages of completion.  I don’t think I’ve ever been this on top of things for the blog before!  Haha.

Thursday after school, the kids and I swung home to grab snacks, and then we went to the music school for Olivia’s voice lessons.  I read and chatted with some of our friends from the kids’ school that were there, and the kids dropped off some candy for Jacob’s piano teacher’s treasure box, and before we knew it, it was time to go.

When we got home, the kids finished their homework and played outside because the weather was ah-mazing again.  Seriously, the amount of warm days we've had lately is just crazy.  I've been wearing tank tops most days, and even shorts some days!

When B got home, he and I made breakfast for dinner – eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, and toast.  After dinner, I went for a walk/jog while the kiddos played outside.  It started raining right as I got home, so I got it done in the nick of time!

After that, it was showers for the kids and me, and then we watched episode one of the new season of The Mandalorian.  There’s lots of Baby Yoda action in that episode so the kids (and I) were excited!

After the kiddos went to bed, B and I watched some of the newest episode of The Bachelor, and then it was bedtime for us.

Friday, March 3

Friday morning, I dropped the kiddos off at school and I grabbed the school’s Sam’s card from the school office since I had to shop for the Daddy/Daughter dance.  After that, I headed home to squeeze in a few minutes of work, and then it was back out to run errands.  After grabbing some gas, I hit up Sam’s for all of the snacks for the dance, and then I hit up Walmart next door for 10 gallons of lemonade.

Our school’s resource officer met me at the auditorium after that, and he helped me unload all of the lemonade and get it in the refrigerator there because I had no place to store 10 gallons of lemonade at home.  Lol.  As I was chatting with him afterward, Jacob and his class came walking into the auditorium for lunch, so I got to see him for a quick minute, too.  I always love getting a quick peek at my babies during the day while they’re doing their thing!

By the time that was done, it was lunchtime, so I headed home to eat a quick lunch with B, and then I spent the rest of the afternoon blowing up balloons for the balloon arch and getting packed for the dance.

At 3, I grabbed the kiddos from school, and then we all headed home to get Olivia ready for the dance.  She wanted a sparkly dress, curly hair, and red lipstick.  Check, check, and check.  ;o)

B was a good sport and he got into his suit way earlier than he needed to so I could snap some pictures of the two of them before I had to leave to decorate for the dance.  I had to be there by 4:30, so it was nice to be able to see them before I left.  Side note, look how green our grass is already!!!!  Craziness!

I headed to the school a little after 4, and spent the next couple of hours getting everything unloaded and decorated.  We did a glow theme again like we had done for the boys, because it was so much fun to have the light-up party favors and blacklights!  I co-chaired the event with my friend, Bianca, and we accidentally showed up wearing almost the same outfits!  Haha.  So much fun!!  We finished up decorating in time to snap some pictures before any of the guests arrived, and the DJ even played two of my favorite white-girl dancing songs while we waited.  ;o)  (Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi and Don’t Stop Believing by Journey)

Meanwhile, B dropped Jacob off at my Mama Cass’s house to hang with her and my parents all evening.  Then he and Olivia went to our favorite pub down the street from our church/school for dinner per Olivia’s request.  I got this picture from my Momma and I love it so much!

All of the guests arrived promptly at 6:30 and we had a PACKED HOUSE.  I mean, we had double the amount of people that we had for the Mother/Son dance, and it was bonkers.  The next couple of hours were a blur and I was kept busy tidying up cups/plates, cleaning up spills, replenishing light-up headbands, snacks, and drinks, checking on the DJ and the guests, and telling the girls (repeatedly) to get off of the stage.  Lol.  They all wanted to dance up there with the DJ, and most of the culprits were from Olivia’s class.  Hahahaha.

By the time 8:30 rolled around, I was exhausted, and thankfully, there were four of us to clean up the mess, so we were done by 9.  I haven’t been that happy to get in the car and sit down in a while… my feet were killing me!

I rolled up to the house just as B and the kids were pulling into the driveway.  They’d spent some time at Mama Cass’s house after they left the dance, so we all ended up getting home around the same time.

The kiddos immediately got into bed, and then I had leftover Kraft mac n’ cheese, some pineapple, and a Moscow Mule for dinner at 10 o’clock at night!  Such a random combination.  Haha.

B and I watched an episode and a half of Outer Banks, and then we called it a night.

Saturday, March 4

Saturday morning was homemade waffles for breakfast, and then I relaxed with my cinnamon tea and uploaded some pictures from the dance to Instagram.  Mid-morning, I finally got off of my booty and I got in a cardio workout, and then it was laundry and tidying to round out the morning.

It was GORGEOUS on Saturday, so the kids played outside most of the morning and early afternoon, and after lunch, I lay out in the sun… in my swimsuit… and read my book.  Just like summa summa summatime!  Woooo!  I cannot wait for more of those days, y’all!

After that, I spent a few minutes in my office getting my life together while the kids played video games, and then it was time to get ready for church.

We all attended 5:30 Mass, and then afterward, we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant with my parents, Mama Cass, my Aunt Joy and Uncle Greg, and my Uncle Billy.

After dinner, B and the kids grabbed Blizzards from DQ, and by the time we got home it was time for the kiddos to get in bed.  B and I watched another episode of Outer Banks (this new season is so boring, y’all), and then we went to bed.

Sunday, March 5

Sunday morning, we had cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and then I finished my book, Float Plan.  While it got off to a bit of a slow start, I did end up really enjoying it.  There is a bit too much boat talk for my taste, though, so I could have done without all that, but I guess it was necessary as nearly the entire book takes place on a boat.  Haha.

After I finished my book, I spent some time prepping my planner for the week ahead, and then I got in a yoga workout.  We all got ready after that, and then headed to my MIL and step-FIL’s house for Sunday lunch for the first time in weeks.  We literally hadn’t seen my step-FIL or B’s sister and her family since January 1, and we hadn’t seen my MIL in several weeks either, so it was loooong overdue.

They cooked a big lunch of all of Brian’s and Olivia’s favorites, and then we celebrated both of them to close out their birthdays for the year.  The rest of the afternoon was spent chatting in the dining room and catching up with them since it had been so long, and then we headed home.  Peep that misspelled name on the cake.  Lol.

At home, I got a little bit of blog work done and the kids played video games, and then we headed to my parents’ house for Sunday dinner.  My Momma made her famous cheesy chicken, and we all sat around the dinner table all evening.  It’s always the perfect way to end the weekend!

Happy Wednesday, y’all!

  1. I liked the next two books in the series more than I liked Float Plan, though I did like that one too! Glad the Daddy Daughter Dance was a big success!

  2. I don't think I've ever seen Olivia with curls in her hair, but she looks so pretty! They almost look like really pretty natural beach waves! I am always amazed how you workout later in the day (I always work out at 5 a.m.!) and I love how you do a variety of workouts. I am hoping to get back to a bit more variety after I finish half training this month!
