Five on Friday - Favorite Pool Accessories

Our kiddos have become great swimmers, and the pool is their favorite place to be, so we’re gearing up for a super fun summer ahead with lots of pool time!  Since I’ve been restocking all of our favorite pool items recently, I thought I’d share some of them with y’all today!

O N E – Towels

Towels are obviously a must for a pool day.  However, we don’t have a pool in our back yard, which means that we have to pack a pool bag, drive to a pool, and then carry all of our stuff to it each time we go.  That means that we need to have as little stuff in our beach bag as possible so as not to have to take multiple trips to the car and back.  Towels can take up a LOT of space depending on their size and thickness, and while I love a good, fluffy towel for pool days, these days, I prefer something absorbent, but small, so it doesn’t take up much space.

These darling striped towels roll or fold up teeny tiny, so we can fit all of them in a single beach bag.  Their thinness doesn’t affect their absorbency, though… as a matter of fact, these towels dry you off more efficiently than any other towel I’ve ever used!  They’re made of microfiber so they’re super soft and absorbent, and they do just as good of a job as any standard towel without taking up near the amount of space in our beach bag.

The come in lots of different colors and patterns, but we love these pink and white and blue and white stripe ones!  We’ve had ours for a year now, and they have held up beautifully through many trips to the pool and many washes in the washing machine.  They dry quickly in the dryer, too!

T W O – A Fun Float

It is HOT here in the south during the summer, so I spend a lot of time in the pool rather than laying beside it.  Therefore, a good float is a must!  I absolutely adore this float because it gets just enough of my body in the water to keep me cool, but most of my body remains outside of the water so I can work on my tan.  It has handles and two cup holders, so I don’t even have to get out of the pool to get my drink.  It is so comfy, too!

T H R E E – Stuff to Keep the Kids Happy/Entertained

Our kiddos love the pool, but they like to have a few accessories to keep themselves entertained.  For starters, they both love these goggles because they hate opening their eyes underwater.  These are the best because they don’t fog up and they have an easy release button in the back, so they don’t get stuck in Olivia’s hair.

They also both love these nose clips.  While they both learned to swim without plugging their noses, they both prefer to plug them now when they’re playing, so I bought this pack on Amazon.  You get a ton per pack and they’re very inexpensive.  My only complaint is that they don’t float.  Most of them time when they get dropped, we’re able to locate them, but we have lost a couple of pairs.

Finally, for the kiddos, they love a good pool toy, and these diving toys are a favorite.  Just toss these in the pool, and they sink to the bottom since they’re weighted.  The kids love swimming to the bottom to grab them!

F O U R – Good Sunscreen for One and All

Our kiddos would stay in the pool all day, every day, so good waterproof sunscreen is a must for us.  Our go-to for the kiddos is Coppertone Sport Sunscreen spray with SPF 50.  It goes on clear, it doesn’t leave white marks on the skin, it's water resistant, and it lasts for a really long time before you have to apply again.

We also love these sunscreen sticks for their faces, ears, and necks.  It makes application such a breeze!  And this brand is worlds cheaper than any name brand.

I have been using this Australian Gold Spray Gel with Instant Bronzer for myself since, probably, high school and I’m still going strong today!  It’s very inexpensive as far as sunscreens go, it smells ah-mazing, and it does exactly what it’s supposed to do.  I typically use SPF 15 on my legs since they don’t ever burn, and I use SPF 30 everywhere else.

For my face, I only use this Neutrogena Clear Face sunscreen.  It’s oil-free so it doesn’t make my face break out like all of the other sunscreens do, and it’s not at all greasy.  Amen.

F I V E – A Good Book

My very favorite place to read is by the pool or on the beach, so a good book is a must for a pool day!  You can see all of my favorite pool and beach reads in this post.
