What I Ordered from Amazon in May 2023

May was another heavy month for Amazon orders due to Teacher Appreciation Week and me trying to figure out what to wear for the Taylor Swift concert.  Technically, the items for the concert were purchased in April, but they didn’t make it into my April post because I ordered them so late in the month, so I just decided to share them here instead.  Many of those items were returned, though, since I had to settle on one dress and one pair of boots.  Anyway, now that you have my disclaimer, here’s what I purchased from Amazon in the month of May!

Swimsuit

I’ve seen this swimsuit all over blogs and social media for years, so I finally decided to scoop one up since I usually buy a new swimsuit each year.  Y’all, this swimsuit really is great, but sadly, it just didn't work for me.  I am very small chested, and the top didn't fit exactly the way I wanted it to.  I was really torn, though, because the bottoms were amazing, it was really comfortable, and I loved every single other thing about the suit!  It was a tough decision - I almost kept it - but ultimately since I didn't absolutely love the top on me, I sent it back.

America T-Shirt

I love a good red, white, and blue top for 4th of July, and the couple of tops I’ve worn in the past were getting kind of worn out, so I bought this one to try.  The tee is soft, and I'm excited to wear it.  I just love the little star to dot the “I” in America.

USA T-Shirt

I also bought this one to try.  The quality is good and it comes in a variety of colors.  The shirt is super soft, too.

Pink One Sleeve Dress

This dress was a purchase for the Taylor Swift concert, and I have to say that I LOVED this dress, but ultimately, I decided I wanted something sparkly, so I returned it.  This dress pleasantly surprised me, though, and I’m going to keep it in mind for future events.  The entire bodice is rusched, so it’s very flattering, and I love that the sleeve is sheer.  It comes in lots of different colors, and I have to say that this highlighter pink option is a showstopper, y’all!  It fits true-to-size… the small was perfect for me.

Pink Sequin One Shoulder Dress

This is the exact same dress as my beloved black one that I ended up wearing to the concert, but it’s obviously just a different color.  I LOVED the pink and thought it would be perfect for a Taylor Swift concert, but I just felt really drawn to the black dress instead, and I figured it was unnecessary to own this dress in two different colors, so ultimately, I sent it back.  I freaking love this dress so much, though, y’all.  The quality is fantastic – the fabric is thick and velvety and covered in sequins, and it has a side-zip closure to get it off and on easily.  It broke my heart to send it back, but it’s tucked away in my wish list for future events should the need arise.  ;o)  It fits true-to-size… I ordered a small.

Silver Cowboy Boots

I’ve already sung the praises of these boots on the blog, and they are from Amazon, y’all!  I was really worried about the quality and the comfort factor when I bought these, but it turns out that they’re very well made and they’re soooo comfortable!  I wore them for 12 hours straight when we went to see Taylor Swift in Atlanta, and I was on my feet the majority of that time, and they didn’t hurt my feet at all.  I highly recommend these if you’re in the market for a pair of good boots but you don’t want to spend a ton of money on real leather ones.  They also come in lots of different colors, so you can find them for pretty much any occasion.

Pink Cowboy Boots

This is the exact same pair of boots as the silver ones, but these are pink.  I ordered both options because I wasn’t sure which route I’d want to go for color, but I ultimately decided to keep the silver ones since they’re more versatile.  But oh my gosh, was it hard to return those pink ones!  They are so fabulous, y’all!

Pink Cowboy Boots, Option 2

These boots are different than the ones above.  The one thing I loved about them was that the pink color had a little bit of sparkle to it instead of just the shimmer that the other choices had.  I also loved that these were a little bit taller on my legs… they almost came up to my knees.  However, while I wouldn’t say that these were uncomfortable, they weren’t exactly comfortable like the others either.  They were also more expensive, so it was a no-brainer to keep the other pair.

Musical Note Earrings

I purchased these earrings as a gift for Olivia’s music teacher.  She wears bright colors, loves rainbows, and has had various colors of hair in the year that we’ve known her.  She is SO FUN and I knew she’d love these earrings.  They just scream Janice!  She did, indeed, love them very much and she’s already worn them a couple of times.

Treble Clef Earrings

We also bought her this pair of treble clef earrings, and she loved them as well.  I was very impressed with the quality of these for the price, too.  They’re made of wood, and they’re just beautiful in person.  They come in a variety of colors, too.  I highly recommend these for any music lover.  They made the perfect gift.

Rock Out Socks Out Socks

I bought this pair of crazy socks for Jacob’s piano teacher.  He plays guitar and keys in several bands, and he has a unique sense of style, (he has a pair of glittery black shoes that he wears often), so I knew he’d appreciate a good pair of crazy socks for Teacher Appreciation Week.  He loved them.

Steel Guitar Pick

This was another little gift for Jacob’s piano teacher.  Jacob loves a good dad joke, and he’s often telling them to his teacher, so this was more of a novelty gift than anything.  We paired this with the crazy socks and then gave him a Chick-Fil-A gift card as well.

Teacher Bracelets

These bracelets are perfect for teacher gifts.  They are made of wooden beads with gold accents, and the letter beads are customizable for your teacher’s name.  We bought these for Olivia’s teachers and the quality is excellent.  They also come packaged beautifully so they’re ready to gift!

Winning the War in Your Mind by Craig Groeschel

One of my friends has been raving about this book, so I decided to grab a copy since I’ve been battling anxiety for most of my life.  The main idea of the book is basically – you are what you think.  If you mostly think positive, life-affirming thoughts, then you’ll live a more positive, happy life.  If you mostly think negative, destructive thoughts, then your mind (and life) will suffer.

This book educates you on how your brain works, and it helps you recognize the patterns of destructive thinking that you may have that you may not even be aware of.  It also provides information on how to better control your thoughts so you can transform your mind and get yourself out of the spiral of negative thinking once and for all.

The book was written by a Christian pastor, so he pairs information from the Bible with information based on science, so it’s a spiritual/scientific combo, which is also unique compared to most of the other personal development books I’ve read.  As someone who is both very spiritual and pragmatic, I really love this combo.

So far, I’ve read the first two chapters and it has definitely caught my attention more than the average personal development book.  I’ve already had a couple of aha moments, so I’m eager to read more.  Keep your highlighter handy when you read this one!  You’ll also need a pen as it doubles as a workbook… there are questions for you to answer and several thought-provoking activities, and there is ample space right there in the book for you to write your answers.

It has 4.8 / 5 stars with over 9,000 reviews on Amazon, so I’m hoping it’s going to live up to its rave reviews!  I am absolutely loving it so far.

Mini Car Trashcan

This mini trashcan for your car sits perfectly in a cupholder, and it holds a surprisingly large amount of trash.  Prior to this, I’d just been sticking my trash in one of the cupholders anyway, so this keeps it out of sight.  It’s very well-made and the lid flips back in place quickly to trap the trash in there before it can pop back out.  It’s the best $10 I’ve spent in a while.

Teacher Appreciation Cards

This set of cards is so cute, and I love that they are suitable for women or men.  The paper is thick and nice, and they are designed with foil on the outside, so the quality is excellent.  Paper goods can be really pricey, so these are a steal!  We used several of them this year, and we’ll keep the rest stocked for next year as well.

Bun Donut

Olivia has to have her hair up in a bun for her recital every year, and the bun donut that we’ve used since she was four has finally bitten the dust.  I grabbed this set to replace her old set, and it worked great.  It also comes with the wide bobbi pins which are necessary for this particular hairstyle that we do.

Dork Diaries: How to Dork Your Diary

Olivia loves the Dork Diaries books, and she wanted to spend her own money on this interactive book by the same author.  It’s basically a journal with writing prompts, and she has been writing in it nonstop since she got it!

Platypus Flossers

These flossers are amazing for people with braces!  One of the sides is flat, so they fit between your teeth and the braces brackets which allows you to floss normally and easily.  I ran out of the first batch I purchased, so it was time for a refill.  They are pricey for flossers, but they’re worth the money for the convenience.  I don’t use them every single time I floss… I just use these when I’m in a hurry, and I use the cheaper floss threaders when I have more time since they’re much less expensive.

Guy Stuff – The Body Book for Boys

I’ve also seen several recommendations about this book for boys.  We had “the talk” with Jacob last year when he was in fifth grade, but I thought it might be nice for him to have a resource to consult in case there was anything that we missed.

Australian Gold Sunscreen

This is the OG sunscreen, y’all, and I’ve been using it for probably half of my life.  It has a built-in bronzer that looks completely natural, and it smells divine.  I needed a refill since we’re at the beach this month, and Amazon had the best price.

Starbucks Gift Card

Olivia’s teacher had Starbucks listed as one of her favorite places, so we bought a Starbucks gift card for her as part of her Teacher Appreciation gift from the class.  Amazon doesn’t charge extra for any of the gift cards from any other stores, so it’s the same price as if you’d purchased it from Starbucks, but it’s so much more convenient because I never even had to leave the house!

Amazon Gift Card

Olivia’s teacher also had Amazon listed as one of her favorite places to shop because that’s where she purchases a lot of her supplies for the classroom.  We bought her this adorable flower pot gift card for part of her Teacher Appreciation gift from the class.  Amazon has fantastic unique gift card boxes and cards, and they don’t cost any additional money!

Happy Tuesday!

  5. I love that car trashcan! I use my cupholders right now too and just make sure to empty the car each time I get home.

    1. Yep, that's what I was doing, too, so it's nice to not have to remember to empty them every single time now. The trashcan holds about triple what one of the cupholders held!
