Fantasy in Lights & the First Full Weekend of 2018

Happy Monday!  We had a nice, relaxing weekend this weekend.

Thursday evening we decided to go to Fantasy in Lights (a place near Pine Mountain, GA) for one last Christmas hurrah because we had never made it back during the Christmas season.  That evening it was only about 22 degrees so instead of riding the trolley like usual, we opted to ride through in our own car with the heater blasting and the windows rolled down.

The kids loved it, as always, and it was nice not to freeze.  While I’m glad we ended up checking it off of our Christmas bucket list, it just wasn’t quite the same going after Christmas.

Friday I kept Olivia out of school because it was Jacob’s last day of Christmas break, and the three of us met up with my friend Katie and her two littles at Chuck E. Cheese.  The weather is still pretty darn cold here and none of the kids had so much as set foot outside all week, so it was long overdue to let them get out and have some fun.  We played games, ate pizza, and then the kids redeemed their tickets for some, “Toortsie Rolls” (as Olivia would say) and a couple of pieces of plastic junk that’ll inevitably end up in the trash.  Haha.  It was well worth the $20, though!

The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting my Momma at her office, doing a Target run, and then heading back home to relax.

Friday evening Jacob’s school had a Parents Night Out, so B and I dropped both of the kids off at 6 and headed out for our first date of 2018.  We had dinner and drinks at our favorite restaurant in town – filets, mashed potatoes, and asparagus all around – and then we headed out for a nightcap since we still had some time left after dinner.  All the while in the car, we jammed out to the new JT song because it is SO. GOOD.  Have you heard it??

And the Parents Night Out thing is flipping AWESOME, you guys.  The high school cheerleaders and the cheerleading coach (who was also Jacob’s kindergarten teacher) are the ones who host it and it’s free except for that they ask for donations to benefit the cheerleading squad.  So for just twenty bucks, B and I had an entire three hours to ourselves while the kids got to play with their friends, eat pizza, and watch movies and we didn’t have to worry for one second because the people who took care of them are the people who take care of them every day at school.  Winning!  I do think we will be participating in all of these from here on out!

Saturday we lounged around for a bit, and then I started working on a couple of projects for my purging.  First up, I photographed all of the kids’ artwork from the first half of the school year, kept a couple of my favorite pieces from each child, and then chunked the rest in the recycling bin.  Our hanging file in our command center in the kitchen is now empty and ready for the second half of the school year!

After that, I stripped the fridge of the kids’ artwork and I finally made the decision to trash the magnets that have been on the freezer door for the last four years.  The kids never play with them… instead Olivia will just walk by and throw a bunch of them on the floor for no reason, plus half of them are missing, so it was long overdue.  I scrubbed the fridge down with a wet cloth and voila!  It’s like a new fridge!

I have also been cleaning out my books in my office library all week and I had to snap an after picture because the shelves are just so pretty and colorful.  I sure do love physical books!

Saturday evening we headed to church and my Boo Boo wanted to take an OOTD picture with me, too!  He doesn’t often volunteer for pictures, so when he does, I take full advantage!

Saturday evening was spent with my parents at one of our favorite pubs, and then it was home to watch the Falcons play while a read my book and let B rub my feet… after I scratched his back, of course.  ;o)

One of the main projects I’m going to work on in 2018 is getting rid of the loads and loads of photo albums that we have.  I hate doing this, but photo albums with actual printed pictures in them take up so much space!  I am going to trash all of the old photographs that were printed from our digital files, but I’m going to keep all of the old photos that were taken with film.  I can’t bring myself to trash the ones that don’t have digital copies.  So anyhoo, Sunday morning I started removing old photos from all of their old albums and I got caught up reminiscing from 2007, probably my favorite year of my whole life if I had to choose just one.

It was the year that B and I got engaged (April 1) and the year that we got married (December 1) and it was also a year that we travelled a ton.  We went skiing in Snowshoe, WV, we went to LA, we went to Vegas, we went to Hilton Head, SC, and we went to Hawaii that year.  We had loads of fun with friends that year and it was also the year of the UGA vs. AU football game when we had a Black Out and it was my favorite Georgia game I’ve ever been to.  So crunk, y’all, so crunk!  Haha.  So many fun things happened that year and I couldn’t help but share a few of my favorite moments with y’all on Insta Stories Sunday morning.  Some of the stories are probably still up if you’re reading this early on Monday morning!  :o)

Sunday afternoon was spent at my MIL and step-FIL’s and the weather was finally warm enough to spend some time outside… and by warm I mean 43, which is normally freezing for us here in Georgia.  The kids played PJ Masks (anybody else’s kids obsessed with that show?!) and they jumped on the mini trampoline and it was nice for all of us to get some fresh air.

Sunday evening was spent at my parents’ house like always… my Momma made spaghetti and we paired it with our beloved TJ’s Three Buck Chuck and a good time was had by all!

Our kids are finally both back in school today and I’m doing a little dance over here because I finally get some free time!  I have loved every second with the kids these last two and a half weeks, but MOMMA NEEDS A BREAK!

You can find me at home doing all the purging!  If you want to follow along, I plan on documenting a lot of it on Instagram Stories!  You can find me on the ‘Gram @lindsayssweetworld here.  I'd love for you to follow along!

  16. Ummm that PNO sounds GLORIOUS!!! The only thing we have around here is something similar at Hadley's gymnastics place, but it's for kids five years old and up. Boo! As a former cheerleading coach, I think this fundraising idea is absolutely BRILLIANT!! Glad y'all got a fun date night out of it too!

  17. Oooh, Parents Night Out sounds awesome! Our church does something similar and at this point our kids go to bed too early for us to participate, but maybe we should stretch there bedtimes just once or twice. :) Olivia's comment about photo albums=too funny! I had to explain to Kai what a CD was a few weeks ago.
