Our Weekend - The One That Was Actually Somewhat Relaxing

We’re coming off of a weekend that was finally somewhat relaxing and I feel like I’m starting this week on a much better foot than I have in weeks.

Friday evening we had nothing going on whatsoever so I picked up some veggies and biscuits from Cracker Barrel (no meat on Fridays because – LENT!), and then we had a family movie night.  The kids had never seen Pocahontas and it’s now on Netflix so we all sat down to watch that together.  I was so exhausted from the chaotic week we had that I may or may not have dozed off a little.  That’s okay, though, because I must have watched that movie a hundred times when I was a kid.  I already know how it ends.  :o)

After the kiddos went to bed, B and I settled in on the couch to watch Crazy Rich Asians.  I have never read the book nor had I seen the movie, so I was really excited about it because of all of the hype surrounding it.  I have to say, though, I thought it was just okay.  I’m not sure if I didn’t love it just because of the funk I’m trying to come out of or because it was too hyped up, but I was definitely underwhelmed.  Don’t get me wrong, it definitely had funny parts and the part during the wedding was so romantic, but other than that it was just okay for me.  I still want to read books, though.  I always tend to like books way better anyway!

Saturday was Jacob’s second soccer game of the season so we were at the field by 11:30.  He played defense the entire time he was in and he didn’t let anyone score on him while he was in there.  The other team did, however, score two goals when Jacob was off the field, but we also scored two goals, so the game ended in a tie.  2-2.

After the game, we were on snack duty and then we headed straight to Chick-Fil-A to grab some lunch.  I haven’t had much of an appetite the last few weeks due to stress and anxiety (my appetite is always the first thing to go when I’m stressed), and I was really excited that I finally enjoyed that meal for the first time in a while.  As a matter of fact, my stomach and appetite have been such a mess these last few weeks, I decided to weigh myself Saturday (I only weigh myself every once in a while) and I have lost 6.5 lbs. in the last month!  Yikes.

I know that may not sound like a lot to most people, but for someone who has been pretty much the same weight since high school (other than during pregnancies) that is a pretty drastic drop for me.  I haven’t lost weight like this since 2015 when my grandfather passed away.  I always know I’m not in a good state when I start to lose weight.  I mean, I haven’t even been craving sweets or wanting desserts.  When that happens, YOU KNOW IT’S BAD.  Lindsay doesn’t turn down desserts.  Haha.  I’m happy to report that I think things are on the upswing, though!

The rest of the afternoon was spent hanging out at home.  I got a few things done around the house and then it was time to get ready for church.  One of my favorite bloggers had done a live Instagram tutorial about one of her daughter’s hairstyles so I decided to try it on Olivia.  She’s always requesting fancy hairstyles and I’ve never been great with hair, but this tutorial looked easy enough so I thought I’d give it a go.  It came out SO CUTE, y’all!  Olivia loved that it looked like she had a crown (of hair) on her head, and I loved that it was pretty easy and not super time-consuming.  I ended up posting a story about it on Instagram and I almost passed out when I saw that the blogger (Rachel Parcell) had added my story to her stories!  Total fangirl moment!  I know, I’m such a dork.  ;o)

We got to 5:30 mass as we usually do, and discovered that every single one of my family members was there at the same mass for the first time in months.  My parents, grandmother, all aunts and uncles, and even my brother and SIL and the two babies were there!  It was their first time taking the kids to mass ever, and we were so happy to have them there!  And I got to get all the baby snuggles towards the end!  <3

Since everyone had been at mass all 15 of us decided to try to go out to eat dinner together afterward, and we lucked out and got a table at one of our favorite local pubs where we spent the rest of the evening eating and drinking some beers… and I enjoyed yet another meal!  I’m hoping that means that my taste buds are back to stay!

We made a quick stop by Dairy Queen on the way home – because I need to gain that 6.5 lbs. back, right? – and then put the kids to bed so B and I could enjoy a few minutes on the couch together watching Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  I loved that show when we first started it, but the more we watch, the less it’s holding my attention.  I’m so bummed about that, though!

My MIL and step-FIL didn’t cook Sunday lunch this week so we were on our own Sunday morning and afternoon.  We spent the morning being lazy at home.  I had good intentions to push the clocks forward and then go ahead and get up early at the new time, but I didn’t sleep well and ended up sleeping until 9 AM the new time (8, the old time).  Since we slept so late we got a late start for breakfast and then the whole day felt shorter.  I did have a chance to spend some time planning out the week ahead before it was time to get ready to head out for lunch, though.  I’m setting myself up for major success this week!

Jacob has been dying for Jason’s Deli, so we obliged and then we all indulged in some soft serve cones afterward.  It was another very dreary day so we knew we wouldn’t be getting any outdoor time, so we took the kids to Barnes and Noble to play and browse books for a while, and then we ran a couple more errands before heading back home.

The kids and I made brownies Sunday afternoon to take to my parents’ for Sunday dinner, and then the rest of the day was spent getting laundry done and getting organized for the upcoming week.  I feel like I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head cut off for a couple of weeks now, so it’s nice to finally feel caught up again on “life stuff.”  My days and mood always run WAY smoother when I feel like I’m in control.  :o)  And maybe now this week I’ll finally have a chance to get some projects done.  Y’all know I always have my hands in something, and I’m itching to get back at it!

We went to my parents’ for Sunday dinner, opened a bottle of wine, tried a new recipe that my mom made, and spent the evening hanging out and doing our usual Sunday things.  We were expected to have more severe weather, but thankfully, we were bypassed this time, so I was able to breathe a sigh of relief.  Ahhhh, all is right in the world!

Now to kick this Monday’s butt!  I’m feeling a lot better now and I’m hoping this is the week that things will be back on track!  And before I go, I can't not say HAPPY 311 DAY TO MY HUBS!  311 is one of his favorite bands so we commemorate the day every year.  ;o)

Happy Monday, y’all!

  1. I love relaxing weekends. Glad you are feeling better. I was in a funk for about 2 months and I have finally felt like I’m out of it.

  2. So glad you are feeling back to normal and you had a great weekend - with no bad weather! In regards to Crazy Rich Asians - I actually liked the movie better than the books. I feel like there were so many characters you had to keep track of, it was kind of hard. And much easier to do in the movie. But I am curious to hear what you think whenever you get a chance to read the books!

  5. My husband watched Crazy Rich Asians on a plane trip but I didn't! Fun that your story was mentioned by that blogger! Glad you had a good weekend.

  6. It's funny you say that about Crazy Rich Asians because I think that's why I haven't bitten the bullet and watched it yet -- it got SO much hype but looked "ok" to me during previews. I'll have to give it a try and see, though! Olivia's hair style is so adorable. I'll have to try that on C!

  7. You deserved a relaxing weekend. And I think the book was much better than the movie. I did not like the crazy friend in the movie, she did not seem so well weird in the book.

  10. Sounds like a great weekend! Glad that you are on the up swing and getting back to normal. I liked the book more than the movie and don't know if I would have like the movie had I not read the book, ya know? It was cool to see the characters come to life.

  11. Ah 311 day! My facebook memories today included going to their concert on 3/11 five years ago! I am glad you are getting better, it is so hard when you feel out of control. I have that yellow old navy dress too and wear it all the time. You will like the books, I read them and didn't like how they messed with them, but I think it made me like the movie more.

  13. I wasn't impressed with Crazy Rich Asians either (the movie or the book)… it was cute but I only thought it was OK. My middle son went through a phase where he was OBSESSED with Pocahontas so I know all the songs by heart and have the cutest picture of him meeting her at Disney! Glad to hear your appetite is back and sorry things have been so stressful but I have to admit you loose weight when stressed... I don't eat nearly as much when I'm stressed but somehow still pack on weight (I think my food choices tend to tank a bit more...). Enjoy all those extra calories in the meantime!! :) Here's hoping things level out for you for a nice long while.

    1. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one! I was thinking something was wrong with me! Ha! And thank you... yes, the first thing that goes for me is the appetite. I suppose that's better than overeating and gaining only to have to lose weight down the road again. And thank you so much! So far this week has been great!
