Five on Friday - Plaid Skirt, a New Favorite IPA, Gluten Free Treats, and LET’S GOOOO!

Happy Friday, y’all!  Whew, what a week!  While I didn’t have many appointments or commitments outside the home this week, it still managed to be a crazy whirlwind of a week!  We were 90 to nothing for five whole days during the kids’ fall break, and then when they went back to school on Tuesday, I had to jump right in to Amazon Prime Day, and that always does me in!

While I loooove shopping for y’all and finding great deals, it is a ton of work searching for quality items, creating graphics, linking, and posting for that many items.  Whew.  Not to mention I’m also trying to shop the sale myself, so Amazon pretty much consumed me for 48 hours and everything else in my life was neglected on Tuesday and Wednesday.  That meant I was destined for ultra long to-do lists on Thursday and Friday, so now I’m pooped.  But we made it to the weekend, y’all!!  Woo hoooo!

Are y’all ready for some favorites?  Let’s goooo.

O N E – Plaid Skirt

As the 90’s trend takes over once again, I have seen some cringe-y things at the stores, but a couple of things I am here for are slimmer fitting tops and… PLAID SKIRTS.  Yes, please.  I purchased a few different plaid skirts to try (including one from Target), and I ended up settling on this one from Amazon, and it is absolute perfection.  I love it so much I can’t even stand it!

The quality is great, it’s thick and not see-through, it’s fully lined, and it has a side zipper for easy on and off.  It’s comfy and so cute and I cannot even tell you how many compliments I received in my DMs the first day I wore it.  One of my favorite blog readers even mentioned that I look like Rachel Green, and if you know me, you should know that was probably one of my favorite compliments everrrr because Friends is my favorite show of all-time.

The skirt fits true-to-size (my typical size is a small, but I’m wearing an XS because I wanted it to be very fitted), and it comes in lots of other colors and patterns.  If you’re in the market for a plaid skirt, look no further than this one!

T W O – New Favorite IPA

Brian and I love craft beers, specifically IPAs, and our go-to for years now has been Tropicalia by Creature Comforts.  It is just the best IPA ever, and out of the dozens of IPAs we’ve tried, nothing else has ever come close.

Well, prior to the Georgia game this past weekend, B grabbed a six-pack of this Savage IPA from Southern Brewing Company, and dare we say that it just might be better than Tropicalia?!  It also happens to be a Georgia Bulldogs themed beer, so it doesn’t hurt that the can is cute, too.  And perfect for football season.

Creature Comforts and Southern Brewing Company both happen to be located in Athens, GA, home of the Georgia Bulldogs (and our second home during the fall every year), so we thought it was neat that we finally found another IPA that’s comparable and it also happens to be brewed right there in God’s country.  ;o)

If you’re a beer connoisseur like we are, definitely give this one a try if you can find it in your area!

T H R E E – Gluten Free Treats

I’ve mentioned recently that I’m trying to go gluten free-ish, meaning that I’ve cut way back on gluten, so I’ve been on the hunt for good gluten free treats.  I love to have a little treat with my hot tea every morning, and that usually consists of Belvita breakfast biscuits, or Biscoff, or some kind of muffin, but of course, all of that has gluten.

Well, on our recent trip to Atlanta, we swung by Trader Joe’s, and I grabbed these gluten free pumpkin muffins, and y’all – OH MY WORD.  You would never know they’re gluten free.  They are some of the best muffins I’ve ever tasted, and I hate that we don’t have a TJ’s here in town so I can buy them all the time.

We also tried the gluten free cinnamon coffee cake muffins, and they are just as good!  Brian gave them both two thumbs up, and he also agreed that you don’t even miss the gluten because you can’t even tell it’s not there!

F O U R – The Golden Bachelor

Uhhhh, has anyone else been watching The Golden Bachelor and absolutely LOVING it?!  Y’all, I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised at this new venture that the Bachelor franchise has taken because this version is just the best.

B and I watched The Bachelor / The Bachelorette / Bachelor in Paradise for probably 15 years, but a couple of years ago we fell off the boat.  I got tired of the drama and the behavior and the editing (everything is so contrived), and it’s annoying knowing that most of the people only go on the show for fame.  While I know the whole purpose of the show is for entertainment, I started to miss some of the authenticity that some of the earlier seasons had, because you just don’t get any of that anymore.  (Although, we did recently watch Charity’s season, as she’s from around our area and we have mutual friends, and we really loved her on there.)

That said, we decided to give The Golden Bachelor a go, and y’all, IT IS SO HEARTWARMING.  These people are all so genuine and so sweet and there is no drama, and everyone is just so great.  Gerry, the bachelor, seems like the absolute nicest guy, salt of the earth, and he seems like a very genuine person.  He seems to be truly looking for love and not just fame.  He lost his wife of 43 years suddenly about six years ago, and many of the ladies in the house have also lost their spouses, so many of the conversations have been heartbreaking, but also heartwarming… I think I’ve cried at every episode.

So anyway, if you’re looking for something to watch that will just make you feel good, The Golden Bachelor is such a breath of fresh air.  We are cheering for Gerry all the way, and I hope he does find someone with whom he can live out the rest of his days.

On another note, can you believe he is 72?!  I hope I look that good when I’m 72!!

F I V E – LET’S GOOOO

And now for my very favorite thing of the entire week… OUR GIRLS’ TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY THIS CHRISTMAS IS A GO!!!!  We have officially booked flights and a hotel and now we’re planning our itinerary, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for a trip!  I’m going with my Momma, my mom’s sister (who all of you know as Aunt Joy), and her daughter (my cousin), Shelby.

As close as we all are, we have never taken a trip together, so we decided let’s go big or go home and go to… NEW YORK CITY!!!!  NYC at Christmastime is my favorite place/thing in the entire universe and I am absolutely on cloud nine that I get to go for a second year in a row (we took the kids last December).

My momma has never been to New York City, and she’s never flown commercial, so I’m thrilled to be able to be there with her for all of these firsts.

After we booked our flights earlier this week, we were all talking in our group chat, and I was just cracking up.  I love these ladies and I’m so excited to be able to spend some quality time with them in my favorite place during my favorite season!

Let the countdown begin!!
