This is Fourteen… Jacob’s Birthday Interview

Jacob’s birthday is Wednesday, so as I do every year, I interviewed him and I asked him the same 30 questions I’ve been asking him each year on his birthday since he was four years old.  I have no clue how much longer he’s going to let me do this, and I’m so grateful he’s still willing to participate.  :o)

As always, my commentary is in parenthesis.  Here’s the interview from July 20, 2025.

1.    What is your favorite toy?  “Uhhhh… probably my Pokemon cards?  Or maybe one of my stuffies.”  (I love that he still loves a stuffie.)

2.    What is your favorite stuffed animal?  “Oh, um, probably Perry my platypus.  Or Bailey.”

3.    What is your favorite game?  “Like board game or video game?”  Me: “Both.”  Jacob: “Uh, probably Tears of the Kingdom.”  Me: “And for the board game?”  Jacob: “Probably… Exploding Kittens, maybe?”

4.    What is your favorite sport?  “Um, golf.  Well, my favorite sport to watch is football, but my favorite sport to play is golf.”  (That’s exactly what he said last year.)

5.    What is your favorite book?  “Um, maybe 5,000 Awesome Facts?  Or my Tears of the Kingdom book, maybe.”

6.    What is your favorite TV show?  “Uhhhh, probably AGT.”  (America’s Got Talent – and that’s what he said last year.)

7.    What is your favorite movie?  “Um, The Minecraft Movie.”  (And he said it in a kind of mischievous, silly voice.)

8.    What is your favorite song?  “Um, I don’t know… I don’t really have a favorite.  There are a bunch of songs I like.”  Me: “Which ones come to mind first?”  Jacob: “Watcher.” (It’s instrumental music from Minecraft, and it’s surprisingly beautiful, which you wouldn’t expect from Minecraft.  Haha.).  Me: “Anything else?”  Jacob: “Uh, no?”  (So I guess he does have one favorite song then??  Haha.)

9.    What is your favorite band or singer?  “Uh, probably Aaron Cherof.” (He’s one of the composers of the Minecraft instrumental soundtrack.)

10. What is your favorite holiday?  “Christmas.”  (Every year he responds with this, and he never hesitates!)

11. What is your favorite season?  “Um, fall maybe?  Or spring.  Winter is too cold, and summer is too hot.  Probably… fall is my favorite.”  (He said fall or spring last year, too, but he never settled on one.)

12. What is your favorite color?  “Green probably, or maybe blue.  It’s always one of those.”  (And he’s right… he has said both of those colors for years.)

13. What is your favorite animal?  “Mmmm, I don’t know.  Maybe an octopus?”  Olivia: “Mr. Steve would be proud.” (Mr. Steve is her music teacher, and that’s his favorite animal, too.) Jacob: “Or a turtle, maybe?  Or a dog.”

14. What is your favorite shirt?  “Um, my teal one with the dark blue and light blue patterns on it that go with the matching shorts.” (He has said this for at least three years in a row now and I’m sure this will be the last year he’ll be able to wear it.  Lol.)

15. What is your favorite fruit?  “Probably watermelon.  Yeah, watermelon.”  (At least three years running!)

16. What is your favorite vegetable?  “Uh, none.  But if I had to choose one, broccoli is the least bad.”  (He has said none for several years in a row now.  Hahahaha.)

17. What is your favorite snack?  “Um, Little Bites.  Blueberry Little Bites.”  (Olivia whispered that before he said it, but I thought he was going to say it anyway.)

18. What is your favorite treat?  “Mmmm, probably Reese’s cups for candy and probably cake for, like, big desserts.”  (Last year he said Sour Patch Kids, so he has moved from sour candy to chocolate.)

19. What is your favorite drink?  “Um, probably Gatorade… orange Gatorade.”  (This is news to me because we literally never have orange.  Haha.  I asked him about this, and he said that Nana and Poppie always have orange, so I guess I’ve never noticed that that’s what he always reaches for over there.  For some reason I thought he liked blue, whatever flavor that is!)

20. What is your favorite thing to eat for dinner?  “Um, I’m trying to think… probably breakfast for dinner.”  (Who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner?!)

21. What is your favorite restaurant?  “Mmmm, <says the name of our favorite local pub that we frequent after church>, maybe?  Or Chipotle.”

22. Who is your best friend?  “Uh, WJ is probably my best best friend, and the others are Alex, Ethan, Jack, and Julian.”

23. What makes you feel happy?  “Uh, video games!”  Me: “Anything else?”  Jacob: “Um, vacations – like, any vacations, my family, of course.”

24. What makes you feel sad?  “Getting sick or hurt.”  (He always says getting hurt and this year he added sick.  Lol.)

25. What are you afraid of?  “Death.”  (He said this in a really dark, scary tone of voice.  Lol.)  “And Olivia after I take one of her stuffies.”  *Laughs*

26. What are you thankful for?  “Um, my family, my house, my toys, video games, um, my friends, my teachers.”

27. What are you really good at?  “Playing piano.  Um, drawing.  Uhhhh, Tears of the Kingdom.”

28. What is your best memory?  “Um, probably playing with Lebron at Disney World when we were at the Avatar place and we were standing in line to take pictures… me and Olivia were playing with Lebron.”  (LOL.  This is the seventh year in a row that he has said Disney World, but this is the first year he has given a specific memory from there.  Oh, and Lebron is the Avatar stuffie that they had gotten from the store in Animal Kingdom that year.  I did not know why they named him Lebron because I think that was actually before all of this middle school Lebron slang came out.  Lol.  But Brian informed me that the Avatar banshee is called an "Ikran" - pronounced like "ee-krahn" and they somehow morphed it into Lebron.  Lol.)

29. What do you want to be when you grow up?  “Um, a YouTuber or an engineer at NASA.”  (This is the fourth year that he’s said YouTuber, and the second that he’s said engineer, but this is the first year that he has specified that he wants to work for NASA.)

30. If you could have one wish, what would it be?  “Uh, to have more wishes!”  *Laughs because he knows it’s such a cliché thing to say*  Me: “So you want me to just use that?”  Jacob: “Well if it was from a genie and I couldn’t say that then I would wish for anything to appear when I wanted it to, or have anything happen when I wanted it to.  It’s basically infinite wishes.  Because I could fly.  Or be invisible.  Or I could have the Eiffel Tower Lego set appear next to me.”  (So basically, what he’s saying is that he found the work around to wishing for more wishes.  Haha.  Also, last year when he answered this question, he said he’d ask for the Lego Eiffel Tower set.  And he’ll probably still be asking for it next year, too, because it’s $629.99 so we’re certainly not buying it for him.  Hahahaha.)

And this is 14, y’all!

Happy almost birthday to my favorite Boo!!
