Our Weekend - Relaxation + Off to the Races

This weekend was filled with lots of relaxation and yet another date night for B and me… our third date night for the month of April!  I think this may be the most date nights that we’ve had in one month since before we had babies almost five years ago!

Last week B was in a tennis tournament, and his second match was Friday evening, so the babies and I stayed home.  We made Mel's Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins for Saturday morning (which were a big hit, may I add!), I whipped up a yummy cocktail for myself (#SingleMommingOnAFridayNight), and we spent lots of time on the back porch until B got home.  The babies saw some sort of fuzzy worm/caterpillar inching his way across the porch and they were completely enthralled.  They laid on the porch watching him for at least 15 minutes!

Saturday morning B had another match so the kids and I spent the morning hanging out, watching cartoons, and I gave Olivia and myself manicures.  We had nothing going on Saturday afternoon so I spent a glorious hour and a half reading and laying out in the sun… these pasty white legs of mine need some color (even though I wear sunblock so at the rate I’m going it will take all summer to tan them).

Saturday evening B and I dropped the babies off at my parents’ house for the evening and we headed to a fundraiser for Jacob’s school.  The fundraiser was set up like a derby so there was horse racing and betting, a silent auction where we could bid on tons of different items (gift cards, artwork, Disney park tickets, photography packages, gift baskets from local stores, items like grills, Yeti coolers, and decked out bar carts, as well as different things for school – front row at preschool graduation, more recess time for your child’s class, naptime in the class tree house for your child for a whole week, etc.), and there was also a live auction which was really exciting.  They served heavy hors d’oeuvres from two of our favorite restaurants and there was an open bar.

Everybody goes all out and dresses to the nines – ladies in pastel fluffy dress and big derby hats, and gents in suits (some in seersucker) and bowties.  There was a best hat contest and a best bowtie contest.  The lady who won the hat contest had lights on hers and the guy who won for best bowtie had a wooden one, so we knew that they both had it in the bag before the contests had even started!

On a side note, may I say that tying a bow tie SUCKS!  Neither B nor I had ever tied one, so we did what anyone would do these days if they didn't know how to do something... we took to YouTube.  Well folks, after 30 minutes and 10-15 f-bombs by yours truly I finally got the thing tied.  OMG.  We were almost late because of the stupid bow tie.

Anywho, we spent the rest of the evening bidding on items for the silent auction and B and I won a week of naps in the class treehouse for Jacob, but we lost all of the others.  I was excited for Jacob because he’s going to really enjoy all of those extra naps in the treehouse… it’s always a special treat to nap in there.

The live auction was probably the most exciting thing of the night as they were auctioning off some big ticket items – vacations at the beach, dinner and wine-ing with the pastor of our church, braces for your child, front row at high school graduation, a year’s worth of school lunches for your child, and the largest item – a dove hunting trip in Argentina for five people.  I could not believe it because every single large ticket item sold for way more than the starting bids.  Needless to say, B and I didn’t do any bidding in the live auction.  Lol.

Sunday morning we lazed around the house until it was time for lunch with B’s fam, and over there we had homemade enchiladas, refried beans, rice, green beans, and mini chocolate eclairs for dessert, and then we spent the afternoon in the back yard.  The kids got to pick some strawberries from Nana’s garden so they were excited about that.

After lunch we headed home, got some things done around the house while the babies napped and had quiet time, and then we spent the evening at my parents’ house – dinner, vino, dessert, and lots of laughs.  Oh how I love Sundays!

Enjoy your week!
