Fall Home Tour 2016

October is here, the weather is (somewhat) cooling off, and pumpkins are everywhere.  It’s easily one of my favorite months of the year.

Our house is decked for fall and ready to share, so come on in!

This year I let the kids choose the color for the mums and they wanted the burgundy ones.  However, as soon as we got home, I realized that they just weren’t going to have the same effect as the yellow ones, since the walls behind them are dark red brick.  Next year, we will definitely stick with yellow so we can have that pop of color against the house!

Last year, for the mantle, I went against everything that I stand for (dramatic, I know), and I decided to do a neutral (and somewhat untraditional colored) mantle.  You can see the pics here.  Personally, while it was nice to do something different for a change, I just didn’t love it.  Neutral is SO not me, and honestly, it didn’t even feel very fall-ish around our house as the fall décor pretty much just blended in with the everyday decor.

When I think of fall, I think of the time of year when all of God’s creations are showing off their brilliant colors – bright orange pumpkins, deep red apples, golden sunflowers, and beautiful fall foliage in yellow and red and orange and green.  Simply put, fall to me means color, so this year I went back to my roots if you will, and I adorned the mantle in as much color as I could get my hands on.  Most of the items I’ve had for a while, but I did pick up a new fall swag, the marquee pumpkin, and the football pumpkin… because who can resist a football pumpkin?!  Hobby Lobby, on point.

The seasonal book crate that I made for the kiddos is now stuffed full of their favorite fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving books, so they have festive books at their fingertips at all times.  You can see more details about it here.

The kids play on our coffee table a lot, so I can’t put anything elaborate on it, but I do have another swag of fall leaves around a basket of pinecones (not sharp) as well as a mini fall candle from Bath and Body Works.  We don’t light that one for obvious reasons, but I love that it gives off a faint aroma anyway.

I didn’t change anything on the kitchen table from last year… a bouquet of fall flowers, and my cute little fall leaf placemats still have my heart.  And this year’s fall chalkboard design is one of my favorites, but I never took the time to finish it, so it doesn’t look as great as it should… you get the point, though.

I paired a couple of different pumpkins with our candy basket (that is currently holding veggies) for the kitchen island décor, and I kept my trusty rusty Bath & Body Works candle holder complete with a Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candle in its usual spot there as well.

Since I had a handful of neutral pumpkins from last year, I sprinkled them on the buffet table in the kitchen and then I added a couple of them to the formal dining room as well.  We rarely use that room, so there was no reason to go all out in there, but I love that it has its own festive touches.

Well, that about wraps it up!  I hope you enjoyed the tour!  And I’ll be back in December for another home tour... Christmas edition… my favorite!  And boy, do we go all out!

Happy Tuesday, friends!

  1. Your home looks so festive and cozy! I love each area and bet it makes you feel so happy when you are home. I agree that your mantle looks better this way. It really pops. I love what all you did on your mantle. I did a little bit to ours, but since our tv is above the mantle there's only so much I can do. :(

    1. And Laurie, you know your neutrals make me drool! For some reason I always adore neutrals in other people's houses, but I always want color in mine! Haha. So strange.

  12. I love your mantle. You did such a great job with it. I can't wait to go to Hobby Lobby Friday (I know, I am late) and get more decorations. My girls are getting into everything so I have to be careful of what I get.

  17. I absolutely love your fall decor! I personally also prefer the fall colors over the neutrals, but I did love the banner of photos you had on your mantle last year. Your home is so cozy and looks like its filled with love. I would have loved making one of those book crates when my kids were younger. Great idea. Stopping by from Tuesday Talk.
