My Birthday Weekend

*This post may contain affiliate links.

My birthday was this past Thursday and it was a great day!  B had one of my birthday gifts sent to our house with my name on it to arrive on my actual birthday so when I received the package I was thinking, “Hmmmm, I don’t remember ordering anything…”  And then when I opened it and saw a little TV for my office in the box, I felt awful thinking that it was supposed to be delivered for B so he could wrap it and give it to me for my birthday.  I texted him and said, “I think I just ruined one of my birthday gifts!”  And he texted back and told me that he had put my name on the box purposely so I could receive a little surprise on my birthday during the day since I’m home during the day now.  So thoughtful.  <3

He and the kids also bought a stand-up work station for me to put in my home office.  I love it so much I'm planning on telling y'all more about it soon!  We got it all set up on Saturday so I’ve been doing a little happy dance ever since!  I have had terrible pelvic and low-back issues since the birth of Jacob and sitting irritates it even more, so I can now sit and stand whenever I want at home!  For my situation being able to stand and work has been completely life-changing.  I know that sounds exaggerated, but being able to stand at my job all last year made a HUGE difference in my pain level which in turn made a huge difference in my overall every day mood.  Being in pain all the time is the absolute worst and this has immensely improved things for the better.

Anyway, B also picked up some cupcakes from one of our favorite places and we all stuffed our faces… they are so yummy!

Friday night was the Mother-Son Dance at Jacob’s school, so he and I got all dolled up and headed out.  The theme for the dance was Emojis so all of the kids got a cute Emoji tumbler and an Emoji fidget spinner, and the moms got sunglasses.  They played lots of great music and did several fun dances – a conga line, limbo, the Harlem Shake, the Whip/Nae Nae, Cupid Shuffle (my personal fave… takes me back to B’s and my clubbing days, HA!), YMCA, etc. and we danced the night away!  Jacob also got to spend some bonus time with his friends and I got to chat with some of my friends and it was a great night!

Saturday morning we had to get up painfully early to get my car to the shop because I had a giant piece of metal sticking out of my tire and B had to put the spare on Friday night.  I ended up having to get a brand new tire because it wasn’t patchable (waaaahhhh!) and that stunk because my tires were already pretty new.

That did give us an excuse to stop by one of my favorite local donut shops downtown, though!  It’s been in the same place since I was a kid and I haven’t had it in ages because it’s not very convenient to our house, and man, had I forgotten how good they are!  At least there was a silver lining to having to buy a new tire!  ;o)

The rest of the morning was spent hooking up my new TV for my office and my new stand-up work station and then we had to go back to pick up my car in the early afternoon.  Jacob’s soccer game was at 1:30 but it literally poured all morning so we thought for sure it would be canceled and it never was.  We reluctantly headed to the soccer fields in the torrential downpours expecting any second for them to cancel it and they never did.  Those poor babies had to play out in the cold pouring rain.  It was so miserable I didn’t even take out my phone to take any pictures.  We ended up losing 4-0 to boot.  I expected Jacob to be grumpy on the way home since he was freezing and soaked from head to toe, but he was in surprisingly good spirits.

The rest of the afternoon was spent inside, drying off, warming up, and cleaning out my closet some more.  I’m telling y’all, I am literally touching every single thing that is in every single space that I’m organizing so each space is taking FOR-EH-VURRRR to clean out.  (Anybody else love the movie Sand Lot?  Hehe.)

We went to church Saturday evening and the kids were not super well-behaved.  Jacob mostly was, but Olivia was off the chain.  She was horrible, y’all, and she kept trying to drag Jacob down with her so her treat was revoked for the evening.  I swear, our kids are mostly SO GOOD in church, but all of a sudden since last weekend they have been cutting up and being soooo annoying.  I told Brian they’ve been a regular Beavis and Butthead lately.  They sit there pointing at stuff and laughing non-stop.  It’s driving me nuts!  It is actually kind of funny sometimes, but NOT in church.

We did go out afterward with my mom and dad and uncle to grab Mex and margs for dinner per the kids’ request… well, Mex and water for them.  Haha.  I swear, these kids can’t get enough!  Jacob would eat an entire thing of chips and salsa all by himself and Olivia would eat an entire thing of cheese dip, no chips required.  Lol.

Sunday morning Jacob did some homework and the kids colored and then we all got ready to go to my MIL and step-FIL’s for my birthday lunch.  They always make birthdays special so my mother-in-law had asked me in advance what I wanted for lunch.  Her cheesy chicken is everyone’s favorite, so I requested that and this recipe called Lawnmower Potatoes that she makes that are so good.  I need to get the recipe and share it on the blog sometime!  They had also made a cold salad with spinach and chick peas and a few other things that I love as well as a yummy Brussels sprouts dish, and black eyed peas, and then we had an Oreo Blizzard Cake for dessert from DQ!

After lunch we opened gifts and I received lots several things that I had mentioned in my birthday wish list.  I was most excited about this tray, and I was also really excited about these wedges!  I am so, so in love!

We all went outside after lunch, but it was still pretty chilly and really cloudy, but after a few minutes the clouds finally went away and it turned out to be a gorgeous day!  We had perfect deep blue skies, and sunshine, and all of the flowers were in bloom!  The Air Show was also going on… we have been attending these last few years, but since it rained all day Saturday we weren’t able to make it.  My FIL and step-FIL live near the airport so it was nice to be able to see the Sunday portion of the Air Show from their back yard.  The kids loved seeing all of the planes and helicopters flying over.

Sunday evening we went to my parents’ house to celebrate my birthday with them, and my Momma had made spaghetti (one of my FAVORITES of hers), salad, bread, and wine, and we had an Oreo cake for dessert… this was a new recipe and it was so rich and delicious!  My grandmother's birthday is at the end of March so we celebrated her birthday  as well... I love sharing a birthday celebration with one of my favorite ladies!  The kids also opened their Easter baskets from my parents because we never got around to doing that last weekend.  They had a great time playing with all of their new toys!

We also opened presents and Momma and Daddy got me a couple more of my FAVORITE tunics and they also gave me an Old Navy gift card so I can do a little bit of shopping.  There are some workout pants that I've been wanting so I'll be heading to grab those this week!

Sunday dinner was extra special this week because we haven’t had our usual Sunday dinner in three weeks.  We didn’t have it last Sunday because it was Easter and we didn’t have it the week prior to that either because we were in Disney World.  It was nice to be back right where we’re supposed to be on Sunday evenings!  We love our Sundays spent with family!

I am just so thankful for my people and the fact that everyone always makes my birthdays so special.  This weekend was an excellent way to kick off 36!

Three celebrations down, one to go with my father-in-law later this week!

Happy Monday, y’all!

  18. What a fun weekend! That was so sweet of Brian. I'm so jealous of your yummy treats - not being able to have gluten kind of ruins any treats you do get to eat, lol!
