Our Week - The One with Getting Home from Disney, Easter, and My Birthday

Today’s recap is going to be shorter than usual since we were gone much of the week for spring break.  I’ll be recapping our Disney World trip in separate recaps, so today’s weekly recap will just cover the last few days after we got home.

Thursday, April 2

Thursday, we made the drive home from Disney World, and we arrived back home just before 6 PM.  We were all exhausted, but I had several things I wanted to tackle before settling in to rest for the evening.

Brian unloaded the car, I got everything unpacked and put away, and I did two loads of laundry.  I also did a quick check of the blog to make sure that everything looked good, and then I spent the rest of the evening relaxing.

While Brian went out to pick up Five Guys for dinner, I jumped in the shower and got in my pajamas, and I got the dishes put away.  After the kids had gotten their bags unpacked, Jacob settled in to work on his Lego set that he’d purchased from The Lego Store in Disney Springs.

We all had dinner together when Brian got home, and then the kids got showered.  I did a quick look at my planner while they were getting ready for bed, and then the rest of the evening was spent hanging out in the living room.  Brian and Jacob played chess with Jacob’s new Lego set that he’d put together and then after the kids got in bed, Brian and I finished the movie One Battle After Another followed by the season finale of Paradise.

Friday, April 3

Friday was an admin day for me AKA a day to get caught up on life stuff after being away for the week.  We did sleep in until around 8:45 AM and I made homemade waffles, but then it was time to start checking tasks off the list:

-       Cleaned the kitchen

-       Made a grocery list

-       Got my planner ready for April

-       Caught up on emails

-       Caught up on my devotional

Mid-morning, we all got showered and ready and then we headed to Stations of the Cross at noon since it was Good Friday.  We met my Momma there and sat with her, and then afterward, we chatted with a few friends before heading out.

We swung by Walmart on the way home to grab a few essentials and then we had lunch after I put the groceries away.

Then, it was back to checking tasks off the list after lunch:

-       Washed the towels

-       Moved the photos from my phone to my computer (this took four tries because my phone and computer weren’t playing nicely, so it was a frustrating afternoon)

-       Added a couple of things to my bulletin board from our trip

-       Caught up on my Lent studies

-       Fixed some blog typos

-       Watered our ferns

-       Stuffed Easter eggs for our egg hunt on Sunday

-       Organized the photos once they finally moved to the computer (this took a couple of hours because there were hundreds from our trip)

-       Started transferring older photos from my computer to our external hard drives and our Amazon Drive to free up space on my laptop

Brian picked up dinner from Olive Garden, and then we all sat down to eat.  I got the towels folded and put away after dinner and then I flopped down on the couch to relax the rest of the night.  I was EXHAUSTED Friday night, and my throat was super scratchy from all the pollen, so I wasn’t feeling 100%.  I was worried I was coming down with something, but thankfully, nothing ever came of it.  I’m just having an extra rough go this spring with my allergies.

I ended up falling asleep on the couch while Brian and the kids finished The Dinosaurs documentary and started The Muppets.

After the kids went to bed, I rallied long enough to catch up on Shrinking, and then Brian and I headed to bed.

Saturday, April 4

Saturday morning, Jacob and I got up at 7:45 AM, threw on some clothes, ate a quick breakfast, and then headed to our church to help decorate for Easter.  My Momma was there helping along with several of our church and school friends.  We got the whole sanctuary decorated in about two hours and then we snapped some pictures of our handiwork.  Everything was just gorgeous.

Jacob and I got home around 10:45 AM and I headed to my office to get some work done while Brian went outside to mow the lawn.  I fixed some blog typos, requested a couple of PhotoPass pictures that were missing from our Disney trip, downloaded the rest of the PhotoPass pictures, and got all of them organized.

Meanwhile, the kids tackled their laundry and then we all had lunch together.

I continued organizing PhotoPass pictures after lunch and then I uploaded some more photos to our Amazon Hard Drive.  While those were uploading, I helped the kids pick out their Easter Mass outfits and then I got organized for Sunday.  I had just enough time to do my last Lent study before it was time to get ready for the day.

While I got ready, the kids had some screen time and Olivia started working on learning Japanese on Duolingo.  She’s been concentrating on French for a while, but she took a liking to the Japanese culture after visiting Japan in Epcot, so she thought she’d start leaning Japanese in addition to French.  She also purchased some chopsticks while we were there, and she’s been using them for every single meal.  I just love that girl.  She loves to try new things!

I stopped in the middle of getting ready to go down to the kitchen and make macaroni and cheese for my extended family’s Easter celebration, and while it baked, I finished getting ready.

We’ve never celebrated Easter on Saturday evening, so it was a first, but it worked out nicely because Brian’s family’s celebration and my family’s celebration didn’t conflict this year, so we were able to attend both.

We spent the whole evening at my Aunt Joy and Uncle Greg’s house celebrating Jesus and they also surprised me with a cake for my birthday since it was the next day.  My Uncle Greg put frosting on my nose like they always do at our local Mexican restaurant, and Brian and my Aunt Joy captured the whole thing on camera.  Haha.  I was so excited because my Momma had made my favorite – a Funfetti cake!

We got home a little after 9 PM, the kids went to bed shortly after that, Brian and I watched the newest episode of Rooster, and then we picked back up where we’d left off on The Chosen.

Sunday, April 5

Sunday was Easter!  We were up at 8:30 AM, the kids found their Easter baskets, and then we all dressed in our Sunday best and headed to 11 AM Mass to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord.

After Mass, we snapped a few pictures outside, and then the four of us headed to my mother-in-law's and step-father-in-law's house to celebrate Easter and my birthday with them.

It rained most of the afternoon, so doing the Easter egg hunt was a challenge.  We ended up putting the eggs out while it was sprinkling, but about halfway through that, it started raining harder, and the kids ended up doing their entire egg hunt in the rain.  I can only remember once or twice where it rained on Easter, so it was definitely a weird day.  Usually, we’re blessed with gorgeous weather on Easter, so it didn’t feel very Easter-y this year with all the rain and the chilly weather.

We did my birthday celebration after the egg hunt, and I opened gifts and we had dirt cake for dessert.

Since we had so much to do over there, we ended up getting home way later than usual… well after 4 PM.  We had nowhere else to be the rest of the day, though, so the rest of the evening was spent at home.

I opened my birthday gifts from Brian and the kids when we got home and then my father-in-law came over to give the kids their Easter baskets from him.

It was late by the time he left, so I barely had time to finish my blog post for Monday before feeding the kids a very late dinner.  Brian and I were still stuffed from our big lunch so we didn’t eat much.  I just had a handful of almonds and a kiwi to get something in my belly, so I didn’t get hungry later, and then we cleaned the kitchen.

We all hung out for a bit after dinner and then we started live action Lilo and Stitch since the kids were out of school Monday.

After they went to bed, Brian made Manhattans for the two of us and then we watched the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live before calling it a night!  And that was our weekend!

Happy Wednesday, y’all!

  1. I can't wait to read about your trip to Disney World. It sounds like a good few days since you got back.
Your church was decorated beautifully for Easter. It sounds like a lovely time at your Aunt Joy and Uncle Greg’s house. The kids Easter baskets look fab and wonderful photos of you all. Happy birthday to you!
