The Weekend - Fun with Friends & College Basketball

We had an especially fun weekend this weekend because we had a couple of fun events planned.  Friday, two of my girlfriends brought their kids over to hang out and make Valentine’s cookies.  B grabbed some pizzas for us on his way home from work, I made Winter White Cosmos for us ladies, and we all had the best time eating dinner and hanging out together.

When dinner was over, we rolled out some dough, let the kids cut them into shapes, and then the kids all played while the cookies baked... well, half of the kids played.  All of the second children stayed at the table because they weren’t going to miss out on one second!  Haha.  Once the cookies were cool, we let them each decorate a couple with pink and white frosting and several different types of sprinkles, and a fun time was had by all!  And I do think I’ll be finding sprinkles everywhere for weeks to come!  Ha!

Once the cookie making was over, they all ate their creations, exchanged Valentine’s, and then we rounded them all up for a group pic.  Note to self for the future, the next time we want to take a group picture, round them up before they consume all the sugar.  I took about 20 pictures and I literally had zero good ones, but my friend Jeannine managed to snap this one that actually turned out halfway decent.  They were wild!

Saturday morning our little family of four was up bright and early to head to Athens for the day.  We stopped for donuts at Krispy Kreme first and made one more stop for a little coffee treat for yours truly, and then we hit the road.  The day was dreary, but we lucked out in the rain department.  The forecast had been calling for potential flash flooding throughout Atlanta and Athens all day, but it ended up being foggy and misty all day instead of the torrential downpours that had been predicted.

Our first stop in Athens was Trader Joe’s.  We don’t have one in our city, so any time we go somewhere that does have one, we take full advantage.  We adore their house wine – the Charles Shaw AKA Two-Buck Chuck – and it’s only $2.99 per bottle, so when we go, we load up!  We grabbed two whole cases (yes, CASES), plus a few other goodies, and then we were off to meet my cousins for lunch.

My cousin Wil graduated from UGA a couple of years ago, and he currently works for the UGA football team, and my cousin Shelby (Wil’s little sis) is currently a junior there at the school, so both of them live in Athens.  Normally we are there for football games which means that Wil is always tied up, but since it’s off-season, he was able to meet us for lunch.  His girlfriend, Cat, who also works for the school in the athletic department also joined us.

Shelby is the president of Tri-Delta at UGA and her sorority house happens to be fairly close to Stegeman Coliseum (the basketball coliseum) so she was kind enough to let us park at her sorority house and use her sweet presidential parking spot.  It was so convenient and so nice to not have to drive around looking for parking for half of the day.

She met us there at the sorority house and then we walked to Grindhouse Burgers, our lunch spot, where Wil and Cat were already waiting for us.  It’s a burger joint/pub so they had gourmet burgers and an assortment of beers, and it was really good!  If you’re ever in the Atlanta/Athens area, they have several locations and I highly recommend it!

After lunch, we parted ways from Wil and Cat who, but not before taking a couple of pictures!  I just love these people!  And fun fact, as I said before, Wil and Shelby are my cousins on my mom’s side of the family.  They are the kids of my momma’s baby sister, and my mom and aunt are ten years apart, so that’s why Wil and Shelby are so much younger than I am.  I baby-sat those two from the time they were itty-bitty until they were old enough to be on their own, and I feel like they’re my own babies.  I still can’t believe that one of my babies has graduated college and the other one is going to be 21 next month.  Lawd, I’m getting old!

Anyhoo, it was just a short walk to the coliseum after lunch and we arrived about an hour and a half before game-time so we let the kids roam around a bit.  We snapped a couple of pictures down near the court, let them grab some snacks, and then we headed to our seats.  The game was sold out so Shelby sat in the student section with her friends and we sat in our four seats together on the other side of the arena.

The game was a ton of fun!  I’m not a huge basketball fan and this was mine and the kids’ first college basketball experience, and we all had a great time!  We ended up losing, but it was expected, so it didn’t put a damper on our day!

Jacob really loved everything about the experience and he actually paid attention to pretty much the entire game.  During the break we went down to grab some popcorn and let the kids stretch their legs, and Jacob was eager to get back to our seats so we didn’t miss any of the actual game.  Olivia loved the cheerleaders and dancers the most and her little face would just light up when they would go out on the floor and do their cheers.

They have both been to college football games as well, and while I love the college football experience way more than basketball, I do have to say that the basketball experience is much easier with two littles.  For one, it’s inside so it doesn’t matter what the weather is like.  Two, there are way fewer people there so it’s much easier getting around.  Three, the games are much shorter so they don’t have to sit still as long.  And four, the games are much more fast-paced which held their attention way more.  I have a feeling we’ll probably start throwing at least one of these into our winter rotation each year!

When the game was over, we met back up with Shelby and we walked back to her sorority house to get our car.  Before we left she gave us a little tour of the house and I couldn’t believe how HUGE it is.  She said theirs is the largest on campus and it sleeps 67 girls, which just blows my mind!  I can’t even imagine having that many girls living in one house together.  Lol.

We parted ways with Shelby after the tour and we headed back home, stopping by Chick-Fil-A for dinner.  It was a long day but the kids were absolutely fabulous all day.  B and I were discussing on the way home that neither of us heard one complaint all day.  No tantrums, no arguments, no fussing, no complaining all. day. long.

Somebody pinch me.

Sunday was another dreary one and we spent it doing the usual Sunday things – lunch at my MIL and step-FIL’s house and dinner at my parents’ house.  Both of my parents were down with what was possibly the flu all last weekend so we hadn’t seen them in two weeks, so it was nice to get back to our norm!

We have a busy week this week with Valentine’s Day, Ash Wednesday (the start of Lent), and soccer starting up, so it’s about to get real, y’all!

Happy Monday!

Five on Friday - Favorites

It’s been another productive week!  We have a couple of extra fun things on tap for this weekend so I’m ready to get it started!

But first, some favorites!

O N E – Valentine’s Day Decorations

Earlier this week I posted about our Valentine’s Day decorations, and I completely forgot to photograph my coffee bar.  It’s nothing extravagant, but I did want to document all of these cutesy mugs that are perfect for the LOVE holiday.  If you missed the post, you can see it here!

T W O – Returning to My Tried and True Mascara

My go-to mascara for the last decade has always been Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume.  Well, I decided to try something new a few months back (Cover Girl Super Sizer Fibers) and I was very disappointed.  Not one to waste money, I used it in its entirety and then had every intention to switch back to my tried and true, but the Cover Girl Full Lash Bloom caught my eye at Target, so I decided to try it instead.  Y’all, it was severely disappointing, but I went ahead and used all of it as well.  (I guess I could have just returned the ones I didn’t like… not sure why I didn’t.)  Well, I finally finished the tube yesterday and I immediately made the switch back to my beloved Lash Blast Volume.  Y’all, I’m never straying from it again!  Gracious, it’s amazing!  And I have definitely learned my lesson… I’ll be sticking to what I know and love from here on out.  My thick, long eyelashes will thank me for it.  ;o)

T H R E E – The Weather

We have had an extremely cold winter this season, and I have actually mostly enjoyed it, but I’m starting to get pretty sick of it at this point.  Well, this week we have had highs in upper sixties to mid seventies almost every day and it has been glorious!  Granted there were a couple of rainy days thrown in, but on the sunny days we took full advantage of it!  We did lots of playing in the back yard and Jacob and I even got to squeeze in a nice, long walk.  I think Maui was even more excited than we were!  She always misses her walks during the winter!

Oh, and speaking of Jacob, I posted a Things Jacob Says post this week, and it is hilarious.  Give it a read if you didn't already!

F O U R – The Great Purge of 2018 Continues…

Yep, I’m about to give you yet another update on the great purge of 2018!  Y’all, it is going SO well.  And I’m honestly at the point where I just want to be done with my office so I think it’s making me be even more ruthless which is a good thing.

This week I tackled my old school papers, report cards, awards, and other memories leftover from my school years.  My “To File” pile has also been out of control for over a year, so I whittled away at that until everything was either put out for recycling, shredded, or filed.  Then I also started cleaning out my old “Pretty Things” files.  You may have seen this on Instagram stories already, but in case you missed it, here’s a little fun fact about me.  Before Pinterest was around, I kept file folders for pretty things that I would see in magazines.  I would tear them out and file them different categories.  I had files for fashion ideas, home ideas, ideas for the kids, recipes, work outs, and so on.  It has basically been like a tangible version of Pinterest right in my file cabinet.  So you can probably imagine how ecstatic I was when Pinterest was started.  (And MAN, I don’t know why I didn’t just think of Pinterest myself!  Sheesh!)  But anyhoo, now that Pinterest is here, I no longer need my paper files, so I got rid of loads of them this week, too.  I did keep a few things that I loved but 90% of it is GONE!  And y’all, I have been doing this since I was probably eight years old so you can imagine how huge my files were!!  And if you don't already follow me on Pinterest, you can find me here!  :o)

So the office is coming along but there’s still a long way to go.  So far the following things have been done:

Bookshelves – cleaned out, dusted, rearranged for maximum functionality, updated picture frames with new pictures

Craft table – cleaned out, rearranged everything in drawers and shelves to meet my current needs

Desk – cleaned out, wiped down, rearranged for maximum functionality

Storage cubes next to desk – cleaned out, reorganized, added “daily box” to the top

Walls – took down a bunch of pieces I was no longer loving, added a couple of pieces to my Timeline Gallery Wall

Closet – cleaned out all old memory boxes, purged LOADS of old stuff, organized remaining memories in three storage containers and labeled them by stages of life – birth through junior high, high school through college, and adulthood.

You guys, when I started this purge, I had 23 boxes that were slightly larger than shoe boxes PLUS three large storage boxes PLUS one gigantic storage box, so the fact that everything now just fits in those three large storage boxes is a HUGE deal.  #PattingMyselfOnTheBack  #SoMuchRoomInMyOfficeCloset

And here’s what’s left to do in my office:

-          Patch holes in walls from old nails
-          Clean out huge three-drawer file cabinet and reorganize papers to keep (this is a big job, y’all.  It’s going to take forever.)
-          Get rid of old huge file cabinet and replace with a smaller one
-          Paint small file cabinet (it’s B’s old one and I want it to be white)
-          Finish organizing old photos (I just found a pile that I had never organized)
-          Relabel all drawers and boxes appropriately since so much stuff was moved around
-          Finish ripping old CDs and sell (this will take a fair amount of time as well)
-          Make a 2018 calendar for my office with Shutterfly (I’m SO behind this year!)

Looks like I have my work cut out for me… and after I’m done with all of that, it’ll be time to move on to the rest of the house!  Eek!

F I V E – Christmas Card Storage

My friend Emily over at ALittle Bit of Emily posted about her Christmas card storage this week and she inspired me to finally get my past Christmas cards organized.  I have had this on my to do list for probably five years, and seeing her post this week was the kick in the pants I needed to finally get it done!  So far I’ve only done five year’s worth, but it’s coming along and I’ll hopefully be done soon.  And the most exciting part is that it will be so fun to store them in a pretty basket during the Christmas season later this year!

Well, was that long enough for ya?  I hope you all have wonderful weekends!  We have some fun things in store, so I’m sure we will!

Happy Friday!

Things Jacob Says - Volume 3

At least once a year I try to dedicate a post to showcase all of the fun and crazy things that the kids say, and today it’s Jacob’s turn!

April 1, 2017

Brian – “Hey Jacob, today is April first.  Do you know what happened on April first?”

Jacob – “No, what?”

Brian – “I proposed to Mommy.”

Jacob – “What does proposed mean?”

Brian – “I asked Mommy if she would marry me.  On April 1, 2007 I asked Mommy if she would marry me and she said yes!”

Jacob – “Did you say please?”

Brian – “No, I don’t think I did.”

Jacob – “If you didn’t say please then why did she say yes?”

July 14, 2017

Olivia – “I want a grilled cheese that has cheese on it.”

Jacob – “All grilled cheeses have cheese in them.  That’s why their last name is cheese.”

August 4, 2017

Jacob after a trip to Walmart with Brian – “Do you know why it’s called Walmart?”

Brian – “Why?”

Jacob – “Because you need a wallet to buy stuff.  WAL-mart.”

Brian – “Oh really?  That’s a pretty good theory.”

Jacob – “Yep, that’s why God named it Walmart.”

August 28, 2017

Olivia looks up at the sun and says – “Look, there’s the sun!”

Jacob – “Did you know that Jesus is the sun?”

*Brian and I look at each other puzzled*

Then we realized that he means that Jesus is the SON, as in God’s son.

September 9, 2017

Olivia talking about gymnastics – “Well, I fell on my head two twices so I don’t like gymnastics.”

Jacob – “Well actually two twices would just be four, so…”

September 27, 2017

Me – “Jacob, what did you end up having for lunch today?”

Jacob – “A corndog, but I don’t like corndogs.”

Me – “Well, did you pull the bread off and just eat the hot dog?”

Jacob – “Wait, there’s a hot dog in there?!”

October 18, 2017

Jacob gives me a hug and then says – “Mommy, do you know why I didn’t squeeze you too hard?”

Me – “No, why, Buddy?”

Jacob – “Because I heard you have a back allergy.”  (Referring to my back pain.)

December 15, 2017

In the car on the way home…

Jacob – “Mommy, I know how to spell liquor.”

*Me, trying to figure out how he knows the word liquor*

Me – “How do you spell… liquor, buddy?”

Jacob – “L-I-Q-U-O-R”

*Me, baffled, trying to figure out how he knows how to spell liquor, and why he even knows the word in the first place*

Me – “Why do you know the word liquor, Bud?”

Jacob – “Because it’s right on that sign over there!”

*ME, RELIEVED*

February 6, 2018

Jacob after putting on chap stick – “I don’t have lipstick, I have life stick.  Because when it touches your lips it changes your life.”

And that’s a wrap!

What I Wore - January Recap

*This post may contain affiliate links.

This is probably the most boring month EVER for outfit recaps since I’ve started posting these monthly recaps, but nevertheless, it was still documented.  It has been positively frigid this winter here in the south, and January already makes me want to hibernate so between that and the cold (and the fact that I no longer have a job to get dressed up for) I’ve pretty much just been living in PJs and workout clothes.

Thank goodness for these Zella Live-In leggings!  Y'all, if you've been thinking of buying them but you're on the fence because of the price, I'm here to tell you, JUST DO IT!  They are worth every single penny.  I want another pair!  I got my first pair when they were on sale, and the next time they're on sale, I'm snagging another!

And speaking of the Zella leggings, I have heard several people say that these leggings on Amazon are the copycats of the Zella leggings, but I haven't tried them for myself.  You can get a two-pack for just $39.99 and they come in loads of different colors!  Has anybody tried these?  If you have can you please let me know what you think?

Aside from the Zella leggings, I think my other favorite piece from this month is this adorable Coffee Till Cocktails sweatshirt from Target.  it is soooo soft and cozy.  I sized up so mine is a little bit oversized, and it's the perfect thing to wear when you're bumming around the house!  You can see how I styled it on 1/3.

Finally, one more thing to note, the boots that I wore on 1/25 that I love so much are currently on clearance, so if you've been wanting some, get 'em now!

Here’s the recap!
