What I Ordered from Amazon in January 2023

It’s time for another Amazon post, and if it wasn’t for me trying a gazillion different dresses for this ball we just attended, then I wouldn’t have much of a post today.  Basically, I ordered four items all month plus a ton of dresses, but I only ended up keeping one dress.  So, this post will be loooong, but hardly any money was spent on Amazon last month since most of it was returned.  Haha.  I thought I’d share all of the dresses anyway, though, because so many of them were winners!

Strength for Each Day by Joyce Meyer

New year, new devotional!  I loved Joyce Meyer’s Trusting God Day by Day devotional so much that I ordered another one of hers.  I am loving this one so far – again, it’s like talking to a friend the way she writes, and there have already been so many great takeaways from these daily excerpts.  I highly recommend this devotional, and I love that there’s one for every single day of the year.

Sure as the Sunrise by Emily Ley

This is another devotional that I’ve had my eye on as I love Emily Ley so much.  However, there are only 100 excerpts in this devotional, so I knew it wouldn’t get me through the whole year, and therefore, I am using it in conjunction with my Joyce Meyer devotional this year.  So far, I’m loving this one, too.

New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp

This devotional was recommended more than any other devotional when I was asking for recommendations, so I’ve had it in my wish list forever.  It went on super sale in January, so I went ahead and snagged one for next year.  I obviously haven’t started reading it yet, but I’m sure if I love it next year, you’ll be hearing all about it!  ;o)

Black Cutout Cocktail Dress

Y’all, I loooove this dress.  LOVE it.  It is so flattering and surprisingly classy and I absolutely love the way it looks on me.  My only hang up is that it is really short and very fitted.  I originally ordered a small, and while it fit, it was highly inappropriate to wear to our event because it was so short and tight.  I ordered a medium in hopes that it would be less short and tight, and while it was, I was still on the fence, so I sized up yet again to a large.  The large was awesome – way less short and tight – but ultimately, I ended up liking another dress better.

One Shoulder Ruffle Cocktail Dress

Okay, if y’all are looking for a dress that is fantastic quality, look no further than this one.  This dress is stunning and SO well-made.  I’ve owned many bridesmaid dresses from David’s Bridal and other local bridal boutiques over the years, and I’m here to tell you, the quality of this dress is every bit as nice as something you’d pay $150 for at David’s Bridal.  It is gorgeous and soooo fancy, and I would have totally gone with this one if it had been easier to dance in… it was pretty tight at the knees because of the cut, and that made it a little too binding.  It fits true-to-size… the small was perfect on me, although, very fitted.

Flutter Sleeve Ruffle Hem Dress

This dress is pretty conservative up top with its high neck and sleeves, but the shorter hem offsets that to give it a fun, flirty look, which gives it more of a cocktail dress vibe rather than something you’d wear to work or church.  I’m 5’5” and I opted for the small, and it fits perfectly.  The hem hits about 5-6 inches above the knee, so it’s a fun length, but it’s not toooo short either.  It’s also form-fitting which also gives it less of a conservative look, but it’s not tight like the other three dresses.  It’s soooo comfortable, too, and the best part is, I can dance in it comfortably.  The fabric is a little bit on the thin side, but it’s not see-through, and considering the dress is only $23.99, that would be easy to look past.  The only reason I didn’t keep this one was because I found something a bit fancier, but this one was definitely a contender early on.

Flutter Sleeve Ruffle Hem Dress in Red

I loved this dress so much in black that I decided to try it in red in case I liked that version better for the ball we attended.  For whatever reason, this red version was a little shorter and tighter than the black one, so I sent it back.  The medium probably would have fit perfectly, but at that point, I didn’t have time to have another size delivered.

Flutter Sleeve Ruffle Hem V-Neck Dress in Red

Since I loved that black dress so much, I also ordered the v-neck red version to try, but it was also a bit too short and tight, and I didn’t have time to exchange for a larger size at that point.  It is such a cute dress, though!

Puff Sleeve Dress

This was one of the very first dresses I ordered to try for the ball, and I absolutely LOVEEEED this dress, y’all, but it just didn’t have the vibe I wanted for this event.  This dress would be perfect for a holiday party, church, or any other less dressy event.  The quality of this dress is great, the fit is perfection, it’s comfortable, the hem hits at just the right spot above my knee, the sleeves are absolutely gorgeous, and it is a winner all-around!  It comes in lots of different colors and sizes, and I added it to my wish list in case I’m ever in need of something like this.

One Shoulder Sequin Dress

This was another option that I purchased early on, and while I loved it, too, it just didn’t have the wow factor that the other one did that I kept.  This is a great dress, though, and it’s not as short as it looks in the picture on the model either.  This one was definitely a contender, too.  Fits true-to-size… I ordered a small.

Square Neck Ruched Dress

This was another one that I pulled out of the bag thinking, “Nope, no way is this one going to look good,” (it honestly looks pretty cheap when you hold it up) but again, I was pleasantly surprised because it ended up looking really great on.  This is another dress that’s on the lower end of the pricing spectrum, and therefore, the quality isn’t nearly as nice as the quality of the mermaid dress above, but shockingly I felt like a million bucks when I put it on!  This one fits true-to-size and it has a lot of stretch, and therefore, it’s super comfortable.  It’s not too short, but the length is still on the “fun, flirty” side to balance out the long sleeves.  And it’s hard to tell from the picture, but the sleeves are sheer, which is also fun.  Since this one is so stretchy, it would be great for dancing, and therefore, it was a contender for a while, but ultimately, I went with a different one because it was a little more fancy.

One Shoulder Sequin Dress in Black

After trying on so many plain black dresses, I decided to order a couple with sequins to dress it up a bit, and this dress almost ended up being the one.  It made it all the way to the final two, but I ended up choosing the other one because it just had more of a wow factor.  This dress is soooo good, y’all, and I cannot recommend it enough.  The quality of this dress is great and it’s so flattering!  It’s also comfortable, easy to dance in, and just very easy to wear in general.  Fits true-to-size… I’m in a small.  I highly recommend this one, too.

One Shoulder Sequin Dress in Gold

Since I loved the black dress above so much, I decided to order it in gold because I thought gold would be so much more fun than black.  While I also looooved this dress, I don’t have a tan right now, so the gold kind of washed me out.  It was almost the same color as my skin, actually, so it just didn’t look as good as it would have had I had my summer tan.  I do highly recommend this dress, too, though, y’all.  It is stunning.  Fits true-to-size.  Well-made.  Comfortable.

One Shoulder Sequin Dress

Aaaand as many of you know from Instagram, this dress ended up being the winner and the one that I wore to the ball.  When I first pulled it out of the bag, I thought for sure it wasn’t going to be as good as the other black one shoulder sequin dress I had decided on, but it ended up being the absolute best.  In the picture on Amazon, the dress appears to be covered in black sequins (which is what I was looking for), but when it arrived, I noticed that all of the sequins had a turquoise or purple hue.  That was a complete turnoff and I almost didn’t even try the dress on, but I’m so glad I did because I ended up LOVING it. The dress is very well-made… the bodice is actually velvet (which was also unexpected) and it was thick and luxurious and soft.  It also had a full zipper all the way up the side which made it easy to get in and out of.  When I put this dress on, Olivia literally squealed with delight, so I knew it was the winner.  It was slightly shorter than the other option I’d chosen, but it wasn’t too short that I felt uncomfortable, and I actually preferred the shorter length to the more conservative length of the other one I’d originally chosen.  Bottom line, this dress made me feel beautiful and confident, it was comfortable and easy to dance in (didn’t have to worry about wardrobe malfunctions), and I cannot even tell y’all how many compliments I received while I was wearing it.  It was a HUGE winner and I only wish I had a reason to wear it again soon.  It fits true-to-size… I’m in the small.  And it also comes in tons of different colors and cuts.

Flonase Sensimist

And finally, it was time for a refill of my beloved Flonase Sensimist.  As I’ve mentioned a gazillion times on the blog before, I use this daily since I suffer from year-round allergy issues.

And that’s it, y’all!  Last month, I ordered 15 items, but I only kept five of them, so it actually ended up being a very light month for Amazon purchases after all of the returns were done.  Haha.  Happy Tuesday!

And if you want to see everything that I ordered in previous months, just check out the posts below!

  1. I want to check out the Emily Ley devotional! I have bought a few Joyce Meyer's devotionals over the years and really enjoy them every time! All of your dresses were so pretty, and I loved following along for your search for the right dress. You picked such a beautiful one!! I could see myself wearing the puff sleeves one for a shower or a fun event, but definitely can see why it didn't fit for your event!

I hope you have a fantastic Monday, friend! :)

  9. Those dresses are all very cute. It rarely occurs to me to order clothes from Amazon because it seems like I'll never know how they will fit with all the different brands.
